SPECIAL FEATURES Some of your vehicle's vital components have specific servicing schedules. The air bags and the pretensioning seat beltsmust be checked every 10 years by a PEUGEOT dealer.
The brake fluid must be replaced every 36/40,000 miles (60 000 km) or every 2 years.
The passenger compartment filte r must be checked at each visit to the PEUGEOT dealer (intermediate visits and regular

Arduous conditions of use If the vehicle is used in certain particularly arduous conditions: ¥ Continuous door-to-door use.
¥ Town use (e.g. taxi).
¥ Repeated short journeys, with the engine cold in low temperatures.
or for long stays in the following conditions: ¥ Hot countries with temperatures often above 30 ¡C.
¥ Cold countries with temperatures often below minus 15 ¡C.
¥ Countries with a dusty atmosphere.
¥ Countries whose lubricants or fuels do not conform to our recommendations,
it is necessary to follow an "Arduous conditions" servicing schedule, which includes special operations and shorter ser- vice intervals: ¥ Every 12,000 miles (20 000 km) or every year for petrol engine vehicles.
¥ Every 9,000 miles (15 000 km) or every year for Direct Injection Diesel engine vehicles.

Recommendations for recommended lubricants The oils which appear in the table opposite are suitable for most pur-poses. The diagram opposite states the optimum range of viscosity depend-ing on the temperatures at which theoils are to be used. It is also possible to use synthetic oils of `superior quality'. In the absence of semi-synthetic or
synthetic oils, oils of API SH/SJ qual-ity (for petrol engines), or CD/CFquality (for diesel engines) may beused by following the 'Arduous Con-ditions' servicing schedule, whichspecifies shorter service intervals. Do not hesitate to ask for advice
from a PEUGEOT dealer to maintaindriving pleasure and to minimise themaintenance cost of your vehicle. For countries outside Europe, please
contact a local PEUGEOT dealer.

CHECKING THE LEVELS Oil levelCheck the level regularly and top up between changes. Maximum con-sumption is 0.5 litres per 600 miles(1 000 km). The oil level should be checked with the vehicle level and the engine coldusing the oil gauge or the dipstick.Dipstick There are two marks on the dipstick: A= maximum
Never fill past this mark. B = minimum
To maintain the reliability of the engines and of theemission control systems, the use of additives in theengine oil is prohibited.
Oil change According to the information given in
"PEUGEOT SERVICING" .
Note: avoid any prolonged contact of
used oil with the skin.
Viscosity selection In all cases, the oil selected must meet the manufacturer's require-ments.

Brakes and clutch level:
Ð The level should always be
between the DANGER and MAX
marks on the reservoir.
Ð If the level drops substantially, con- tact a PEUGEOT dealer imme-
diately.
Fluid change:
Ð must be carried out according to the manufacturer's servicing schedule.
Ð use fluids recommended by the manufacturer, which fulfil DOT 4standards.
Note: the brake fluid is noxious and
very corrosive. Avoid any contactwith the skin. Coolant level Use the fluid recommended by the
manufacturer. When the engine is warm, the tem- perature of the coolant is controlledby the engine fan. Because this fan
can operate with the ignition off andbecause the cooling system is pres-surised, wait for at least one hourafter the engine has stopped beforecarrying out any work. To avoid any risk of burns, slackenthe cap to the first notch to releasethe pressure. When the pressure hasdropped, remove the cap and top upthe level. Used productsDo not dispose of used oil, brake fluid or coolant down drains or on theground. Power steering fluid level Open the reservoir with the engine
cold. The level should always beabove the MINI mark, close to theMAXI mark.
Windscreen and headlamp* wash fluid level For best quality cleaning and for your
safety, we recommend that you use
products recommended by PEUGEOT.
* According to destination.

At the start of winter, have your bat-

very dusty conditions, change ittwice as often .
Brake pads Brake pad wear depends on the style of driving, in particular for vehi-cles that are used in town, for short
journeys. It may be necessary to check the thickness of the pads even betweenservices. Handbrake Where the handbrake travel is too great or there is a reduction in theperformance of the system, thehandbrake should be adjusted, evenbetween services. Have the system
checked by a PEUGEOT dealer. Manual gearbox This does not need an oil change. Check the level according to themanufacturer's servicing schedule. Automatic gearbox This does not need an oil change. Have the level checked by a PEU-
