Unlocking Pull on the handle and press the but- ton to release the handbrake. Illumination of this warninglight and of the STOPwar-
ning light, accompanied byan audible signal (while thevehicle is being driven) and
the message "handbrake on" on
the multi-function display, indicatesthat the handbrake is still on or hasnot been properly released.
Operating abnormality Any operating abnormality is indica- ted by an audible signal, accompa-nied by the message "Automatic
gearbox faulty" on the multi-func-
tion display and flashing of the Sportand Snow warning lights on the ins-trument panel. In this situation the gearbox operates in downgrade mode (locked in 3rd
gear). You may feel a substantialknock when changing from Pto R
and from Nto R(this will not cause
any damage to the gearbox). Do not exceed 60 mph (100 km/h), keeping within the limit of localspeed restrictions.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer as soon as possible. HANDBRAKE Locking Pull the handbrake to immobilise your vehicle.
Warning:
when parking on a slope,
direct your wheels towards the pave- ment and pull the handbrake.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM
(ABS) AND THE ELECTRONICBRAKE FORCE DISTRIBUTION(EBFD)
The ABS, in conjunction with the electronic brake force distribution, increases the stability and manoe-vrability of your vehicle, particularlyon poor or slippery road surfaces. Note: when changing wheels (tyres
and rims), make sure that these are approved. The anti-lock braking system comes into operation automatically whenthere is a risk of wheel lock.
When this warning lightcomes on, accompanied bya buzzer and the message"ABS fault" , it indicates
that there is a malfunction of
the ABS, which can cause a loss ofcontrol of the vehicle when braking.
When this warning lightcomes on, connected to the
STOPand ABS warning
lights, accompanied by abuzzer and the message
"Braking fault" , it indicates that
there is a malfunction of the electro-nic brake force distribution, whichcan cause a loss of control of thevehicle when braking.

REAR PARKING ASSISTANCE This system consists of four proximi- ty sensors, located in the rear bum-
per, and a special speaker. This detects any obstacle (person, vehicle, tree, gate, etc.) behind thevehicle. Nevertheless, it cannotdetect obstacles located just below
the bumper. An object, such as a stake, a road- works cone or any other similarobject may be detected at the begin-ning of the manoeuvre, but may nolonger be detected when the vehiclecomes close to it. Note:this function will be disarmed
automatically when the vehicle is towing a trailer or when a bicycle car-rier is fitted (vehicle fitted with towingattachment or bicycle carrier recom-mended by PEUGEOT).
In bad or wintry weather, ensure that the sensors are not covered with
mud, frost or snow. Activation The system is activated as soon as reverse gear is engaged; an audiblebleep shows that it is active. The proximity information is given by an audible signal, which becomesmore rapid as the vehicle approachesthe obstacle. When the distance between the rear of the vehicle and the obstacle is lessthan approximately twenty-five centi-metres, the audible signal becomescontinuous.Deactivation
Change to neutral, the system is again inactive.

Only use products recom-
mended by PEUGEOT.
To ensure best perfor- mance from componentsas important as the
power steering and the brakingsystem, PEUGEOT selects andoffers quite specific products.
CHECKS Battery
At the start of winter, have your bat-
tery checked by a PEUGEOT dealer. Air filter and passenger compartment filter Have the filter elements replaced
regularly. If you drive in dusty
conditions, change them twice asoften. Brake pads Brake pad wear depends on the style of driving, in particular forvehicles which are used in town, over short distances. It may be necessary to check the thickness of the pads, even betweenservices. Handbrake Where the handbrake travel is too great or there is a reduction in theperformance of the system, thehandbrake should be adjusted, evenbetween services. Have the system checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer. Manual gearbox This does not need an oil change. Check the level, according to themanufacturer's servicing schedule. Automatic gearbox This does not need an oil change. Have the level checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer, according to themanufacturer's servicing schedule. Oil filter
Change the filter regularly, in accor- dance with the servicing schedule.
RUNNING OUT OF FUEL (DIESEL) If you should run out of fuel, it is necessary to re-prime the circuit:
- fill the fuel tank with at least five
litres of diesel,
- operate the manual re-priming pump, until you feel resistance during the manoeuvre,
- operate the starter until the engine starts.

Ð in the holder in the centre of the spare wheel, 4 - Jack with handle.
5 - Bolt cover tools.
6 - Centralising tool.
7 - Removable chock. Parking the vehicle
As far as possible, park the vehicle on level, stable and non-slippery ground.
Apply the handbrake, switch offthe ignition and engage first orreverse gear (position Pfor the
automatic gearbox). Access to the spare wheel

TOWING YOUR VEHICLE
Without lifting (4 wheels on the road)
You should always use a tow bar. The removable towing eye is inside the boot right-hand trim. From the front: Unclip the cover, by pressing the bottom part,
Screw in the removable towing eye as far as it will go.
From the rear: Unclip the top of the cover using a coin,
Screw in the removable towing eye as far as it will go.
Lifting (2 wheels only on the road ) It is preferable to raise the vehicle with a professional lifting device. Special features of the automatic gearbox When towing with four wheels on the ground, the following rules must beobeyed:
- lever in position
N,
- tow the vehicle at less than 50 km/h over a maximum distance of 50 km,
- do not add oil to the gearbox.

TOWING A TRAILER,
CARAVAN, BOAT ETC.
Only use original PEUGEOT tow bars that have been tested andapproved from the design stage of
your vehicle. The tow bar must be fit-
ted by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Your vehicle is basically designed for transporting people and luggage butit may also be used for towing a trai-
ler. Driving with a trailer subjects the towing vehicle to more significantstress and its driver must be particu-larly careful. Air density decreases with altitude, thus reducing engine performance.Above 1000 metres, the maximumtowing load must be reduced by 10%and so on for every 1000 metres ofaltitude.Driving advice Distribution of loads Distribute the load in the trailer so that the heaviest items are as closeas possible to the axle and the noseweight approaches the maximumpermitted without exceeding it. Cooling
Towing a trailer on a slope increases the temperature of the coolant. As the fan is electrically controlled, its cooling capacity is not dependenton the engine speed.
On the contrary, use a high gear to lower the engine speed, and reduceyour speed. The maximum towing load on a long slope depends on the gradient andthe outside temperature. In all cases, pay attention to the coolant temperature. If the warning light comes on, stop
the vehicle and switch off the engineas soon as possible.Tyres Check the tyre pressures of the
towing vehicle and of the trailer, observing the recommended pres-sures. Braking
Towing increases the braking distance. Lights Check the electrical signalling on the
trailer. Side wind
Take into acount the increased sen- sitivity to side wind.
