This Owner’s Guide describes every option and model variant available
and therefore some of the items covered may not apply to your
particular vehicle. Furthermore, due to printing cycles it may describe
options before they are generally available.
Remember to pass on the Owner’s Guide when reselling the vehicle. It is
an integral part of the vehicle.
Fuel pump shut-off switchIn the event of an accident the
safety switch will automatically cut off the fuel supply to the
engine. The switch can also be activated through sudden vibration (e.g.
collision when parking). To reset the switch, refer to theFuel pump
shut-off switchin theRoadside emergencieschapter.

Safety information
Please read and follow all stated safety precautions. Failure to do
so may increase your risk of collision and personal injury. Ford
Motor Company shall not be liable for any damages of any type
arising from failure to follow these guidelines.
Do not attempt to service, repair or modify the system. See your Ford or
Lincoln Mercury dealer.
The driver must not attempt to operate any detailed operation of
the navigation system while the vehicle is in motion. Give full
attention to driving and to the road. Pull off the road and park in a
safe place before performing detailed operations.
If the system is used for an extended period of time with the
vehicle stationary, ensure that the engine is running to avoid
draining the battery.
Do not apply pressure to the display screen.
The navigation system is not a substitute for your personal judgement.
Route suggestions should not supersede local traffic regulations or safe
driving practices.

5. Press and hold the just-trained HomeLinkbutton and observe the red
light. If the light is a constant red, programming is complete and your
device should activate when the HomeLinkbutton is pressed and
released.Note:To program the remaining two HomeLinkbuttons,
begin with step 2 in the“Programming”section—do notrepeat step 1.
If the red light blinks rapidly for two seconds and then turns to a
continuous red, proceed with steps 6 through 8 to complete
programming of a rolling code equipped device.
6. At the garage door opener receiver (motor-head unit) in the garage,
locate the“learn”or“smart”button (usually near where the hanging
antenna wire is attached to the unit).
7. Press and release the“learn”or“smart”button. (The name and color
of the button may vary by manufacturer.)
Note:There are 30 seconds in which to initiate step eight.
8. Return to the vehicle and firmly press, hold for two seconds and
release the HomeLinkbutton. Repeat the press/hold/release sequence
again, and, depending on the brand of the garage door opener (or other
rolling code equipped device), repeat this sequence a third time to
complete the programming.
HomeLinkshould now activate your rolling code equipped device. To
program additional HomeLinkbuttons begin with step 2 in the

During programming, your
hand-held transmitter may
automatically stop transmitting—

After completing steps 1 and 2
outlined in the“Programming”
section, replace step 3 with the following:

advised to unplug the device during the“cycling”process to prevent
overheating.
•Continue to press and hold the HomeLinkbutton (note step 3 in the
“Programming”section) while you press and release—every two

the driver’s door panel to associate
with the Driver 1 or Driver 2
positions.
4. Repeat this procedure for another
remote transmitter if desired.
Deactivating the memory feature
To deactivate this feature:
1. Press the SET control on the driver’s door panel.
2. Within 5 five seconds, press any control on the remote transmitter
which you would like to deactivate and then press the SET control on
the driver’s door panel again.
3. Repeat this procedure for another remote transmitter if desired.
KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM
You can use the keyless entry
keypad to:
•lock or unlock the doors without
using a key.
•open the trunk.
•recall memory seat/mirrors/steering column/adjustable pedals positions
1or2.
The keypad can be operated with the factory set 5–digit entry code; this
code is located on the owner’s wallet card in the glove box, is marked on
the computer module, and is available from your authorized dealer. You
can also create your own 5–digit personal entry code.
When pressing the controls on the keypad, press the middle of the
controls to ensure a good activation.
Programming a personal entry code
To create your own personal entry code:
1. Enter the factory set code.
2. Within five seconds press the 1•2 on the keypad.Note:The lock
motors will cycle, locked then unlocked.

3. Enter your personal 5-digit code. Each number must be entered
within five seconds of each other.
4. Enter a sixth digit to indicate which personality feature should be
recalled by the personal code.Note:The lock motors will cycle, locked
then unlocked.
•1•2 recalls driver personality 1.
•3•4 recalls driver personality 2.
•9•0 does not recall a driver personality.
Wait 5 seconds without pressing a keypad button in order to store a
personal entry code.
Tips:
•Do not set a code that uses five of the same number.
•Do not use five numbers in sequential order.
•The factory set code will work even if you have set your own personal
code.
•If you set a personal code and store it over an existing personal code
it will erase that personal code only.
Erasing personal code
1. Enter the factory set 5–digit code.
2. Press and hold the 1•2 for two seconds and release; this must be
done within five seconds of completing step 1.
3.
Press and hold the 1•2 for two seconds to erase the customer
programmed code; this must be done within five seconds of completing step 2.
Your personal code is now erased and only the factory set 5–digit code
will work.
Anti-scan feature
If the wrong code has been entered 35 times, the keypad will go into an
anti-scan mode. This mode disables the keypad for one minute and the
keypad lamp will flash.
The anti-scan feature will turn off after:
•one minute of keypad inactivity.
•pressing the UNLOCK
control on the remote entry transmitter.
•the ignition is turned to the ON position.
•a key turned to the UNLOCK
position on the driver’s door.

there are no nicks, tears or cuts. Replace if necessary. All safety belt
assemblies, including retractors, buckles, front seat belt buckle
assemblies, buckle support assemblies (slide bar-if equipped), shoulder
belt height adjusters (if equipped), shoulder belt guide on seatback (if
equipped), child safety seat LATCH and tether anchors, and attaching
hardware, should be inspected after a collision. Ford Motor Company
recommends that all safety belt assemblies used in vehicles involved in a
collision be replaced. However, if the collision was minor and a qualified
technician finds that the belts do not show damage and continue to
operate properly, they do not need to be replaced. Safety belt assemblies
not in use during a collision should also be inspected and replaced if
either damage or improper operation is noted.
Failure to inspect and if necessary replace the safety belt
assembly under the above conditions could result in severe
personal injuries in the event of a collision.
