SB250A1-E HEATED REAR WINDOW To operate the heated rear window depress the switch shown. The heated rear windowwill automatically turn off after 20 minutes orwhen the ignition is turned off. The system may be turned off manually by depressing the switch again. CAUTION: The inside of the rear windscreen shouldnever be cleaned with a hard or sharp imple-ment since damage to the heating elementmay occur. The glass should only be cleanedwith a soft cloth or chamois leather with theuse only of a mild detergent or proprietaryglass cleaner where necessary. Only hori-zontal movement of the cloth should bemade when cleaning the glass and careshould be exercised to ensure that the heat-ing elements are not damaged by rings orjewellery whilst the glass is being cleaned. REAR FOG LIGHT SWITCH
To turn on the rear fog lights, push the switch.
They will come on when the headlight switchis in the second position and the key is in the"ON" position.

Side Ventilator
The side vent knobs control the amount of
outside air entering the vehicle through the side vents. These vents can also be closed,so no air enters through the side vents. Tochange the direction of the air flow, turn thecontrol knobs as desired.

This model has four controls for the heating and cooling system. They are:

This is used to select fresh outside air or recirculation inside air. To change the air intake control mode, (Fresh mode, Recirculation mode) push the controlbutton. FRESH MODE (
) : The indicator light on
the button goes off when the air intake control is in fresh mode. RECIRCULATION MODE (
): The indica-
tor light on the button is illuminated when the air intake control is in recirculation mode. With the "Fresh" mode selected, air enters the vehicle from the outside and is heated orcooled according to the function selected. With the "Recirculation" mode selected, air from within the passenger compartment will bedrawn through the heating system and heatedor cooled according to the function selected.

Fan Speed Control (Blower Control)

This is used to turn the blower fan on or off
and to select the fan speed.
This blower fan speed, and therefore the
volume of air delivered from the system, may be controlled manually by setting the blowercontrol between the "1" and "4" positions.

Face-Level
Selecting the "Face" mode will cause air to be
discharged through the face level vents.
NOTE:
o It should be noted that prolonged op- eration of the heating in "Recirculation" mode will increase to fogging of thewindscreen and side windows and theair within the passenger compartmentwill become stale. In addition, prolongeduse of the air conditioning with the"Recirculation" mode selected may re-sult in the air within the passenger com-partment becoming excessively dry.
o When the ignition switch is turned "ON" the air intake control will change to "
"
mode (regardless of switch position). This is normal operation.

This is used to direct the flow of air. Air can be directed to the floor, dashboard outlets, orwindscreen. Five symbols are used to repre-sent Face, Bi-Level, Floor, Floor-Defrost andDefrost air position.

Bi-Level
Air is discharged through the face vents and
the floor vents. This makes it possible to have cooler air from the dashboard vents and warmerair from the floor outlets at the same time. Floor-Level
Air is discharged through the floor vents.
Floor-Defrost Level
Air is discharged through the windscreen de-
frost vents and the floor vents.
If the "Floor-Defrost" mode is selected, the A/C
will turn on automatically and "Fresh" mode willbe activated.

Air is discharged through the windscreen de- frost vents. If the "Defrost" mode is selected, the A/C will turn on automatically and "Fresh" mode willbe activated.

This is used to turn the heating system on and off and to select the degree of heating de-sired. B690A02S-AAT HEATING CONTROLS For normal heating operation, set the air in- take control to the "Fresh" position and the airflow control to "Floor". For faster heating, the air intake control should be in the "Recirculation" position. If the windows fog up, move the air flow control to the "Def" (defroster) position. (TheA/C will turn on automatically and "Fresh"mode will be activated.) For maximum heat, move the temperature control to "Warm".

To remove interior fog on the windscreen;
o Set the air flow control to the defrost ()

o To keep dust or unpleasant fumes from
entering the car through the ventilation system, temporarily set the air intake con-trol at "Recirculation". Be sure to return thecontrol to "Fresh" when the irritation haspassed to keep fresh air in the vehicle.This will help keep the driver alert andcomfortable.
o Air for the heating/cooling system is drawn in through the grilles just ahead of thewindscreen. Care should be taken thatthese are not blocked by leaves, snow, iceor other obstructions.
o To prevent interior fog on the windscreen, set the air intake control to the fresh air(
) position and fan speed to the desired
position.
NOTE: When the A/C is operated continuously on the floor-defrost level (
) or defrost level
(), it may cause fog to form on the exte-
rior windscreen. If this occurs, set the air flow control to the face level position (

For dehumidified heating:
o Turn on the fan control switch.
o Turn on the air conditioning switch. The air conditioning indicator light should come on at the same time.
o Set the air intake control to "Fresh" mode (

o Set the air flow control to the desired position.
o Adjust the fan control to the desired speed.
o For more rapid action, set the fan at one of the higher speeds.

o If the interior of the car is hot when you first
get in, open the windows for a few minutes to expel the hot air.
o When you are using the air conditioning system, keep all windows closed to keephot air out.
o When moving slowly, as in heavy traffic, shift to a lower gear. This increases enginespeed, which in turn increases the speedof the air conditioning compressor.
o On steep grades, turn the air conditioning off to avoid the possibility of the engineover-heating.
o During winter months or in periods when the air conditioning is not used regularly,run the air conditioning once every monthfor a few minutes. This will help circulatethe lubricants and keep your system inpeak operating condition.

To use the air conditioning to cool the interior:
o Turn on the fan control switch.
o Turn on the air conditioning switch by pushing in on the switch. The air condition-ing indicator light should come on at thesame time.
o Set the air intake control to "Fresh" mode (

o Set the temperature control to "Cool". ("Cool" provides maximum cooling. The temperature may be moderated by movingthe control toward "Warm".)
o Adjust the fan control to the desired speed. For greater cooling, turn the fan control toone of the higher speeds or temporarilyselect the "Recirculation" position on theair intake control.

WARNING: ENGINE EXHAUST CAN BE DANGEROUS!
Engine exhaust gases are potentially lethal. If at any time engine exhaust gas is detected within the passenger compartment, move the vehicle to an open area and open all windows. o Never inhale exhaust gas. Exhaust gases contain Carbon Monoxide which is colourless and odourless. Carbon Monoxide is poisonous and can cause unconsciousness and death by asphyxiation. o Exhaust System Maintenance. Ensure that the exhaust system is maintained in good condition and is free from excessive corrosion and damage which may result in leakage. If the vehicle is driven over an object which strikes the exhaust system, ensure that theexhaust system is inspected at the first available opportunity to ensure that no leakage exists. o Confined Areas. Do not run the engine in confined spaces, allowing the engine to idle in a garage, even when the doors are open is dangerous practice. Only start the engine immediately prior to moving the vehicle out of the garage. o Prolonged Idling. If it is necessary to allow the vehicle to idle for prolonged periods, ensure that the heating system air intake control is set to the "Fresh" position, the blower is set to high speed operation and that the vehicle is standing in an open area. o Load Carrying. If it is necessary to carry long objects which do not permit the boot lid to be fully closed, the side windows must remain closed and the heating air intake control set to the "Fresh" position with the blower running at the highest speed setting. To ensure correct operation of the heater system, the air intake grilles at the base of the windscreen must not be obstructed by snow leaves etc..
