SPARKING PLUG REPLACEMENT
SSA6060A
0.039 ~ 0.043 in. (1.0 ~ 1.1 mm)
This operation should only be performed when
the engine is cold.
1. Remove the centre cover from the engine rocker cover.
2. Remove plug lead from the sparking plug to be replaced, pulling the lead by the rubber cap. (Pulling the lead may damage the car-bon conductor).SSA6061CSSA6060B
Prior to installing a sparking plug, the gap between the centre and outer electrodes mustbe checked and adjusted as necessary.Adjustment is facilitated by bending the outerelectrode towards or away from the centreelectrode. Under no circumstances should at-tempts be made to adjust the position of thecentre electrode.
4. Insert the sparking plug into the cylinder head and screw by the wrench and until theplug contacts the seating area. Tighten theplug with the socket by a further 1/2 to 3/4 ofa turn only.
3. Clean around the base of the plug to be
removed, and install the plug socket ensur-ing that the ceramic insulator does not be-come damaged. Turn the socket counter-clockwise to remove the plug.
CAUTION: Sparking plugs must only be cleaned using
purpose designed equipment. Wire brush- ing may damage the centre electrodein-sulator causing misfiring to occur. Only thecorrect grade of sparking plug should beused. Use of an incorrect grade may resultin serious engine damage.

CAUTION:
o Do not operate the wipers on dry glass since rapid wear and damage to thewindscreen glass may result.
o Keep the blade rubber out of contact with petroleum products such as en-gine oil, gasoline, etc.
The level of windscreen washer fluid available
should be checked on a daily basis. The levelof fluid will be visible through the side of thereservoir. When the fluid is to be replenished, only a proprietary screen wash additive shouldbe used and in the concentration recommended SG100A1-E

Transaxle fluid level checking
The vehicle must be parked on level ground
with the parking brake firmly applied and the engine at normal operating temperature. (Nor-mal operating temperature will only be achievedwhen the vehicle has been driven for 6 miles ormore). With the engine idling and the footbrake ap-
plied, the transaxle selector should be movedfrom the "P" position through to the "L" positionand back to the "N" or "P" position.

AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID The automatic transaxle fluid level should be
checked and changed at those intervals pre- scribed in the maintenance schedule. It is ofparamount importance that only the specifiedfluid is used when replenishing or changing thefluid. The use of other fluids may irreparablydamage the transaxle and invalidate the manu-facturers warranty. In addition the ingress of dirtor lint may prevent correct functioning of thetransaxle and care must be exercised to pre-vent the ingress of such matter.
CAUTION: The transaxle on fluid level must be checked
with the engine running and at normal oper- ating temperature and therefore care mustbe exercised to prevent injury occurringthrough contact with rotating or hot parts ofthe engine. G110B03A-AAT
Recommended Fluid Your Hyundai automatic transaxle is specially designed to operate with DIAMOND ATF SP- III
or SK ATF SP- III.
Damage caused by a nonspecified fluid is notcovered by your new vehicle limited warranty.
Wipe the dipstick, replace it fully and promptlyremove it again. The fluid level should bebetween the upper and lower marks. Fluidneed only be added if the level is at or belowthe lower mark and must never be increasedabove the higher mark. If additional fluid isrequired, this should be poured into the trans-mission through the dipstick tube with the aidof a suitable funnel. CAUTION: The automatic transaxle unit is a preci-sion engineered assembly and correctoperation is dependant upon the exclu-sion of dirt and lint from the unit. There-fore, it is imperative that only lint freecloth (eg nylon) is used for wiping thedipstick and that the area around the

Brake Fluid Level
The fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir
should be checked periodically. The levelshould be between the "MIN" and "MAX"marks on the side of the reservoir. If the levelis at or below the "MIN" mark, fluid should beadded having carefully cleaned the area sur-rounding the reservoir cap to ensure that dirtis not allowed to enter the system. It shouldbe borne in mind that the brake fluid level willdecrease slightly as the friction linings of thepads and shoes become worn and that this isa normal condition.

BRAKE SYSTEM CHECKING CAUTION:
Correct operation of the braking system is
essential to the safe operation of the vehicle and therefore, any maintenance operationsother than those listed below should beentrusted to a Hyundai dealer.

coolant temperature and may sometimesoperate even when the engine is not run-ning. Use extreme caution when workingnear the blades of the cooling fan so thatyou are not injured by a rotating fan blade. As the engine coolant temperature de-creases, the fan will automatically shutoff. This is a normal condition.
WARNING (Diesel only): Never work on injection system with en-

The fuel jet produced byfuel leaks may cause serious injury, if it touch the body. People using pacemak-ers should not move than 30cm closer tothe ECU or wiring harness within theengine room while engine is running, since the high currents in the CommonRail system produce considerable mag-netic fields. Adding Fluid
Recommended brake fluid conforming to DOT 3 or DOT 4 should be used. The reservoir capmust be fully tightened to avoid contaminationfrom foreign matter or moisture. CAUTION: Brake fluid is hygroscopic and should never be stored in an unsealed container.Do not allow petroleum base fluid tocontaminate the brake fluid since damageto the rubber seals of the system mayresult. WARNING: Brake fluid will cause rapid and serious damage to paintwork. If accidental spillageoccurs, the affected area must be rinsedwith water immediately. Do not allow brakefluid to come into contact with the eyes or tobe ingested and ensure that fluid is safelystored away form the reach of children.

Checking the Refrigerant
1. Start the engine and run at idle for several minutes with the refrigeration system run- ning at the coldest setting.
2. Open the bonnet and inspect the sight glass on the top of the receiver dryer.
3. If the refrigerant charge is insufficient, a flow of bubbles will be observed through the sightglass.
4. If the refrigerant charge is satisfactory, no bubbles will be observed through the sightglass.
CAUTION: Running the air conditioning system with a
low refrigerant level may damage the com- pressor.
SG140D1-E
Off Season Maintenance The air conditioning must be run for ten minutes
or so weekly during periods when the systemwould not normally be used to ensure that thecompressor and seals are lubricated. If thisprecaution is not observed the compressor sealsmay become stuck to the compressor shaft anddamaged when the system is next used result-ing in a loss of refrigerant and damage to thecompressor.
