MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT(If installed)
This light illuminates when there is a malfunction of an exhaust gas related component, and the system is not functioning properly so that the ex-haust gas regulation values are not satisfied. This light will also illuminate when the ignition key is turned to the"ON" position, and will go out in a few seconds. If it illuminates while driving, or does not illuminate when the ignitionkey is turned to the "ON" position, take your car to your nearest authorized Hyundai dealer and have the systemchecked. STOP/TAIL LIGHT FAIL URE WARNINGLIGHT
If the Stop/Tail Light Failure warning light comes on when the parking brake is applied or the tail light is turned on,check the brake lines or the tail light bulb.

The cruise indicator light in the instru- ment cluster is illuminated only when the vehicle cruising speed has beenset using the control switch on the steering wheel. To adjust the headlight beam level according to the number of the pas- sengers and the loading weight in theluggage area, turn the beam leveling switch. The higher the number of the switchposition, the lower the headlight beam level. Always keep the headlight beam at the proper leveling position, or head-lights may dazzle other road users. Listed below are the examples of proper switch settings. For loading conditionsother than those listed below, adjust the switch position so that the beam level may be the nearest as the condi-tion obtained according to the list.

WARNING:
o Keep the main switch off when not using the cruise control.
o Do not use the cruise control
when it may not be safe to keep the car at a constant speed, for instance, driving in heavy or vary-ing traffic, or on slippery (rainy, icy or snow-covered) or winding roads or over 6% up-hill or down-hill roads.
o Pay particular attention to the
driving conditions whenever us- ing the cruise control system.
o During cruise-speed driving with manual transaxle vehicle, do notshift into neutral without depress- ing the clutch pedal, since theengine will be overrevved. If this happens, depress the clutch pedal or release the main switch.
o During normal cruise control op- eration, when the set button isactivated or reactivated after ap-plying the brakes, the cruise con- trol will energize after approxi- mately 3 seconds. This delay isnormal. SEEK ( / ) Switch Press the SEEK switch 1 sec. or more.
1. RADIO mode When the SEEK ( ) is pressed, the unit will automatically tune to the next higher frequency and when the SEEK ( ) switch is pressed, it will automati-cally tune to the next lower frequency.
2. TAPE mode
o Pressing the SEEK ( ) will play the
beginning of the next music seg- ment.
o Pressing the SEEK ( ) will start replay at the beginning of the musicjust listened to.
3. CD (compact disc)/CDC (compact disc changer) mode
o Press the SEEK ( ) once to skip forward to the beginning of the next track.
o Press the SEEK ( ) once to skip back to the beginning of the track.

1. Look around the vehicle to be sure
there are no flat tires, puddles of oil, water or other indications of pos-sible trouble.
2. After entering the car, check to be
sure the parking brake is engaged.
3. Check that all windows, and lights are clean.
4. Check that the interior and exterior mirrors are clean and in position.
5. Check your seat, seatback and
headrest to be sure they are in theirproper positions.
6. Lock all the doors.
7. Fasten your seat belt and be sure
that all other occupants have fas- tened theirs.
8. Turn off all lights and accessories
that are not needed.
9. When you turn the ignition switch to
"ON", check that all appropriate warning lights are operating and that you have sufficient fuel. C030A01A-GAT COMBINATION IGNITION SWITCHTo Start the Engine
o If your Hyundai is equipped with a
manual transaxle, place the shift lever in neutral and depress the clutch pedal fully.
o If your Hyundai has an automatic transaxle, place the shift lever in "P"(park).
o To start the engine, insert the igni-
tion key and turn it to the "START"position. Release it as soon as the engine starts. Do not hold the key in the "START" position for more than15 seconds.
NOTE: For safety, the engine will not start if the shift lever is not in "P" or "N"Position (Automatic transaxle).
10.Check the operation of warning

To Remove The Ignition Key
1. Turn the ignition key to the "ACC"
position.
2. Simultaneously push and turn the ignition key counterclockwise from the "ACC" position to the "LOCK"position.
3. The key can be removed in the

WARNING:
Never run the engine in a closed or poorly ventilated area any longer than is needed to move your car in or out of the area. The carbon mon-oxide gas emitted is odorless and can cause serious injury or death.

o "START" The engine is started in this position. It will crank until you release the key. NOTE: Do not hold the key in the "START" position for more than 15 seconds.
o "ON" When the key is in the "ON" position, the ignition is on and all accessories may be turned on. If the engine is notrunning, the key should not be left in the "ON" position. This will discharge the battery and may also damage theignition system.
o "ACC" With the key in the "ACC" position, some electrical accessories (radio, etc.)may be operated.
o "LOCK" The key can be removed or inserted in this position. To protect against theft, the steering wheel locks by removing the key. NOTE: To unlocking the steering wheel, insert the key, and then turn the steering wheel and key simulta-neously.

HXG065In the main gate, selector lever has 4/ 5 positions, and is equipped with a button to avoid inadvertent wrong se-lection. NOTE:
Depress the brake pedal and push the button when shifting. Push the button when shifting. The selector lever can be shiftedfreely.
The first few shifts on a new ve-hicle, or if the battery has been taken away and reinstalled, may be somewhat abrupt. This is a normalcondition, and the shifting se- quence will become normal after shifts are cycled a few times byT.C.M (Transaxle Control Module).ating or shifting gears. On a slippery surface, an abrupt change in ve- hicle speed can cause the drivewheels to lose traction and the ve- hicle to go out of control.
The highly efficient Hyundai automatictransaxle has four/five forward speeds and one reverse speed. The individualspeeds are selected automatically, depending on the position of the speed selector lever. The selector lever has 2gates; the main gate and the manual gate. NOTE: For information on manual gate operation, refer to "Sports Mode".
!WARNING:
o Avoid high cornering speeds.
o Do not make quick steering wheel movements, such as sharp lanechanges or fast, sharp turns.
o Always wear your seat belts.
o In a collision crash, an unbelted person is significantly more likely to die than a person wearing a seatbelt.
o The risk of rollover is greatly in-
creased if you lose control ofyour vehicle at highway speeds.
o Loss of control often occurs if
two or more wheels drop off theroadway and the driver oversteers to reenter the roadway.
o In the event your vehicle leaves the roadway, do not steer sharply.Instead, slow down before pull-ing back into the travel lanes.
o Never exceed posted speed lim-
its.
