WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY 3-3
5. If the water pump drive belt is broken or
engine coolant is leaking out, stop the engine immediately and call the nearest Hyundaidealer for assistance.
WARNING:Do not remove the radiator cap when theengine is hot. This can allow coolant to beblown out of the opening and cause seriousburns.
6. If you cannot find the cause of the overheat- ing, wait until the engine temperature has returned to normal. Then, if the engine cool-ant has been lost, carefully add coolant to thereservoir (page 6-8) to bring the fluid level inthe reservoir up to the halfway mark.
7. Proceed with caution, keeping alert for fur- ther signs of overheating. If overheating hap-pens again, call a Hyundai dealer for assis-tance.
CAUTION:Serious loss of engine coolant indicates thereis a leak in the cooling system and this shouldbe checked as soon as possible by a Hyundaidealer. 2. The spare tire should only be used temporari-
ly and should be returned to the luggagecompartment as soon as the original tire canbe repaired or replaced.
3. Continuous use at speeds of over 80 km/h (50 mph) is not recommended.
4. As the temporary spare tire is specifically designed for your car, it should not be used onany other vehicle.
5. The temporary spare tire should not be used on any other wheels, nor should standardtires, snow tires, wheel covers or trim ringsbe used with the temporary spare wheel. Ifsuch use is attempted, damage to theseitems or other car components may occur.
6. The temporary spare tire pressure should be checked once a month while the tire is stored.
D040A01GK-GAT TEMPORARY SPARE TIREThe following instructions for the temporary spare tire should be observed:
1. Check inflation pressure as soon as practical
after installing the spare tire, and adjust to the specified pressure. The tire pressure shouldbe periodically checked and maintained atthe specified pressure while the tire is stored.

o Lower-than-recommended tire pressures
cause uneven tread wear and poor han- dling.
o Higher-than-recommended tire pressures increase the chance of damage from im-pacts and cause uneven tread wear.
CAUTION: Always observe the following:
o Check pressures when the tires are cold. That is, after the car has been parked for at least three hours and hasn't been driv-en more than 1.6 km or one mile sincestarting up.
o Check the pressure of your spare tire each time you check the pressure ofother tires. I050A02GK-GAT

SNOW TIRES If you equip your car with snow tires, they should be the same size and have the sameload capacity as the original tires. Snow tiresshould be installed on all four wheels; other-wise, poor handling may result. Snow tires should carry 28 kPa (4 psi) more air pressure than the pressure recommended forthe standard tires on the tire label on the driveside center pillar outer panel, or up to themaximum pressure shown on the tire sidewall whichever is less. Do not drive faster than 120 km/h (75 mph)when your car is equipped with snow tires. Tires should be rotated every 10,000 km (6,000miles). If you notice that tires are wearing un-evenly between rotations, have the car checkedby a Hyundai dealer so the cause may becorrected. After rotating, adjust the tire pressures and besure to check wheel nut torque. WARNING: Do not mix bias-ply and radial-ply tires un- der any circumstances. This may cause dan-gerous handling characteristics.

To minimize tire and chain wear, do not contin-ue to use tire chains when they are no longerneeded. WARNING:
o When driving on roads covered with snow or ice, drive at less than 30 km/h (20 mph).
o Use tire chains less than 10mm (0.39 in.) for 16" and 17" tires.
o Avoid sudden stop and turns.
o Tighten firmly to avoid contact with the verticle body, if you have noise caused by chaws contacting the body, removethe chains for damage protection. 15", 16" Tire

TIRE BALANCING A tire that is out of balance may affect handling
and tire wear. The tires on your Hyundai were balanced before the car was delivered but mayneed balancing again during the years you ownthe car.
Whenever a tire is dismounted for repair, it
should be rebalanced before being reinstalled
on the car. I080A01A-AAT
TIRE TRACTION
Tire traction can be reduced if you drive on
worn tires, tires that are improperly inflated oron slippery road surfaces. Tires should be re-placed when tread wear indicators appear. Toreduce the possibility of losing control, slowdown whenever there is rain, snow or ice on theroad.
The original tires on your car have tread wearindicators. The tread wear indicators appearwhen the tread depth is 1.6 mm (0.06 in.). Thetire should be replaced when these appear as asolid bar across two or more grooves of thetread. Always replace your tires with those ofthe recommended size. If you change wheels, the new wheel's rim width and offset must meetHyundai specification. I100A01FC-GAT

WARNING: When rotating the 215/45 R17 tires, the tires
must be mounted following the "ROTATION" direction marked on the sidewall of the tires.
If rotating the tires from the left side to the
right side and from the right side to the leftside, separate the wheel from the tire andthen remount them. WARNING:
o Driving on worn-out tires is dangerous! Worn-out tires can cause loss of brakingeffectiveness, steering control and trac-
tion. When replacing tires, never mix ra-dial and bias-ply tires on the same car. Ifyou replace radial tires with bias-ply tires, they must be installed in sets of four.
o Using tires and wheels of other than the recommended sizes may cause unusualhandling characteristics that may causedeath, serious injury or property dam-age.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
SD060A1-E IN THE EVENT OF A PUNCTUREIf a puncture occurs whilst driving the vehicle:
1. Bring the car to rest as soon as it is safe to do so and with the minimum amount of braking required which will assist in main-taining the maximum amount of control. Thevehicle should be parked wherever possibleupon firm level ground to facilitate wheelchanging.
2. If the vehicle is creating a hazard and the road conditions do not permit the wheel to bechanged safely, assistance should be sought.
3. Passengers must not be allowed to remain inside the vehicle during wheel changing. Ifa puncture occurs whilst the vehicle is on a SD070A1-E CHANGING A FLAT TYRE
7. Proceed with caution until it is established
that the engine is operating normally. If the engine overheats repeatedly, the advice of aHyundai dealer should be sought.
CAUTION:Serious loss of coolant indicates there is aleak in the cooling system and this should bechecked as soon as possible by a Hyundaidealer.
It is of the utmost importance that care is exer-cised when changing road wheels. Ensure thatthe parking brake is set and that the gear shiftlever is in reverse (P, if the vehicle has automatictransaxle).

To minimize tyre and chain wear, do not continue to use tyre chains when they are no longerneeded. WARNING:
o When driving on roads covered with snow
or ice, drive at less than 30 km/h (20 mph).
o Use a tyre chains less than 10mm to 16", 17" tyre.
o Avoid sudden stop and turn.
o Tighten firmly not to hear contact sound, if it still sounds, remove the chains for dam-age protection. I060A01GK-EAT TYRE ROTATION The tyre wear characteristics will vary between each tyre dependant upon the conditions of use.It is normal for the front tyres to wear more rapidlythan those fitted to the rear of the vehicle andtherefore tyre rotation will provide a means ofhelping to ensure an even wear rate across thetyre set. For vehicles fitted with radial ply tyres, rotation should be confined to front to rear tyrealternation. It is not recommended that radial plytyres be rotated from side to side. NOTE: Aluminium wheels which are not supplied asOriginal Equipment should not be mixed onthe same vehicle with the original steel wheels.
WARNING:When rotating the 215/45 R17 tyres, ensure tofollow the"ROTATION" direction marked onthe sidewall of tyres. When rotating the tyres of the left and right, separate the wheel from the tyre and then re-assemble them. However, it is acceptablethat the steel spare wheel be used in conjunc-tion with Original Equipment aluminiumwheels since the offset of both wheels iscompatible. Radial and cross ply tyres shouldnot be mixed on the same vehicle.
I050A01GK-EAT TYRE CHAINSTyre chains should be installed on the front wheels. Be sure that the chains are installed inaccordance with the manufacturer's instructions.Refer to the following information.

SI060B1-E TYRE REPLACEMENT Tyres must be replaced when the wear indica- tors appear as a solid bar across the tyre tread. At this point, the remaining tread depth will beapproximately 1.6 mm. In addition to this, the tyremust be replaced if any portion of the tread hasbecome bald or if there are any lumps, bulges ordeep cuts in the sidewalls or tread. SI060D1-E WHEEL REPLACEMENT The original wheels may only be replaced with Hyundai Approved Wheels. WARNING: Driving on worn or defective tyres is danger-ous. Worn tyres may cause loss of steeringcontrol and a serious deterioration of brakingefficiency. Defective tyres may cause vibra-tion and loss of control through blow outs. Tyres of different size, construction or tread pattern should not be intermixed on the sameaxle. Radial and cross ply tyres should not beused on the same vehicle. The use of tyres and wheels of non approvedsizes can be dangerous.
Replacement tyres must be of the recommendedsize and rating and should be of the same manu-facture and tread pattern on each axle.
