FUSES
If electrical components in your vehicle are not
working, a fuse may have blown. For more
information about changing a fuse, please consult
your Owner’s Guide.
TIRE PRESSURE
Adjust the tire pressure to the specifications on
your Certification Label, located near the front
door latch on the driver’s side. When checking
pressure, use an accurate tire pressure gauge.
Check tire pressure when the tires are cold, after
the vehicle has been parked for at least one hour
or has been driven less than 3 miles.
Warning:Improperly inflated tires can affect vehicle handling
and can fail suddenly, possibly resulting in loss of
vehicle control.
CHANGING THE TIRES
Your vehicle is equipped with either a full-size or a
temporary spare tire. (Temporary spares are
smaller than regular tires and designed for
emergency use only; replace this tire with a
full-size tire that is identical to the other tires on
your vehicle as soon as possible. Please see your
Owner’s Guide for additional information on
temporary spares.)
LOCATION OF THE SPARE TIRE AND TOOLS
The spare tire is under the vehicle, just forward of
the rear bumper. The jack and wheel nut wrench
are behind the access panel to the right rear
quarter panel interior trim. The jack handle is
attached to the jack with a clip.
ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE
During your vehicle’s 3-year/36,000-mile limited
warranty period, every new Ford vehicle includes
the assurance and support of a 24-hour
emergency Roadside Assistance program.
Roadside Assistance includes such services as
fuel delivery, tire changes, jump starts, and help
when you are locked out of your vehicle. Please
complete your Roadside Assistance identification
card and keep it in your wallet for quick reference.
This card can be found in your glove compartment,
in your Ford Owner's Guide portfolio (U.S.) or
Roadside Assistance book (Canada).
To receive roadside assistance in the
United States for Ford or Mercury vehicles, call
1-800-241-3673. In Canada call 1-800-665-2006.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Your automatic
transaxlespends the
first few hundred miles
learning your driving
style so it can provide
you with shifting smoothness. Overdrive will
increase your fuel economy when cruising at a
constant speed for an extended period of time.
Overdrive “ON” (“OFF” switch not depressed) is
the normal driving position for this automatic
REVERSE SENSING SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED)
As you back up, this convenient
feature alerts you to the presence
of large stationary objects near
your rear bumper, using a series
of beeps to help you gauge the
distance.
The Reverse Sensing System will not detect small
or moving objects. It functions in situations where
you’re backing up at less than 3 mph, detecting
obstacles within 5.9’ (or less) of your rear bumper.
The closer you get to the obstacle, the more the
frequency of the tone increases. When you’re
within 10 inches, the tone will sound continuously.
INTERIOR MIRRORS
Flip the conversation mirror (if
equipped) into position when you
need to see and communicate
with rear seat passengers; this
mirror does not replace your rear
view mirror.
Some inside rear view mirrors include an
auto-dimmingfunction. When bright light is
detected from front or behind, they automatically
adjust to minimize glare.
Power heated mirrors with
safety signals(if equipped) use a
blinking yellow arrow to warn
other drivers that your vehicle is
about to turn or that someone may
be entering/exiting the vehicle
from the sliding doors. These mirrors also warm up
to remove ice, mist and fog when the rear window
defrost is activated. Attempting to adjust if frozen or
remove ice from these mirrors by hand can
damage the glass.
FLEXIBLE SEATINGFor passenger and cargo carrying
flexibility, all second and third row
seat backs can fold flat to provide
horizontal space for large objects.
All second and third row seats
can be completely removed.If
equipped, second and third row
seats can also be adjusted:
Second row seatscan
be tipped and moved forward to allow passengers
easy access to the third row.
Second and third
row seats can slide forward and rearward, and can
be reclined. (Warning: Reclining the seatback can
cause an occupant to slide under the seat's safety
belt, resulting in severe personal injuries in the
event of a collision.) The
third row seatcan be
moved to the second row for additional cargo space
and to create seating for five; it also has levers that
allow you to move the seat forward or rearward
while in the seat, allowing room behind the seat to
load the cargo area.
MEMORY SEAT SETTING (IF EQUIPPED)
The Memory Seat system
“remembers” the positions of seat,
outside mirrors and adjustable
pedals for up to two different
drivers. The control for this system
is located on the instrument panel.
To set the first program position, adjust the seat,
pedals and mirrors to your liking and press SET.
The indicator light will illuminate briefly – while it’s
illuminated, press control
1.Repeat to set a second
position and press control 2.The memory seat
positions are automatically recalled when you press
your remote entry transmitter unlock control. Each
of the two transmitters will recall a unique setting.
POWER SLIDING DOORS (IF EQUIPPED)
Windstar’s power sliding doors
can be opened or closed by hand,
by pressing the RIGHT/LEFT side
sliding door controls in the
overhead console, or from the
remote entry system, or the
second row seating position. Rear passengers
can open the doors from second row seating
positions; the controls are on the trim panel in front
of the sliding door. (Press the left side of the
ON/OFF control in the overhead console to
prevent using the rear seat control(s) or the
handle. All other controls remain functional.)
If the doors detect sufficient resistance from a
person or object while closing, they will automatically
reverse to the open position. Also note that the
left-hand power sliding door will not open if the fuel
door is open.

AUTOVISION®
VIDEO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
(IF EQUIPPED)
This system allows rear seatpassengers to play videocassettes
or video games, select from
available media sources, or utilize
other compatible devices
such as
DVD players, camcorders and
portable CD players. The flip-down screen folds
down for viewing or can be latched in the up
position for storage when not in use.
PERSONAL SAFETY SYSTEM
This important system uses crash
and occupant sensors placed
throughout the vehicle to
compare crash severity with
occupant conditions to activate
the appropriate safety devices. As an example, front air bags and seat belt
pretensioners will typically activate only in
frontal and near-frontal collisions, not rollovers,
side-impacts or rear-impacts. To make the most
efficient use of this system, be sure all occupants
are properly restrained; parents are STRONGLY
encouraged to always properly restrain children in
rear seat positions.
REMOTE ENTRY SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED)
UNLOCKPress this control once to unlock
the driver’s door and twice to unlock all
doors. Interior lights will turn on.
LOCK BUTTONPress this control once to
lock all doors. Press a second time to
confirm that all doors are closed and
locked. (Horn will chirp once.) If any of
the doors are open or ajar, the horn will
make two quick chirps, reminding you
to close the doors.
PANIC ALARM BUTTONPress this control
to activate the panic alarm. To
deactivate, press again, or turn the ignition to ACC
or ON. This alarm only operates with the ignition
in the OFF position.
SLIDING DOOR BUTTONPress this control twice within
three seconds to open the power sliding doors;
interior lamps will illuminate. Repeat the process to
close the sliding door and turn off the interior lights.
HOMELINK®(IF EQUIPPED)
The HomeLink®Universal Trans-
ceiver has three buttons located
on the driver's visor that
put control of (up to three)
transmitter-operated devices at
your fingertips; these devices
may include garage doors, entry gates, security
systems, entry door locks, and lighting systems for
home or office.
Refer to your Owner’s Guide for information on
programming HomeLink
®.
PREMIUM AUDIO SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED)
(If your Windstar came equipped with another
audio system, please see your Owner’s Guide.)
VOLUME/POWER CONTROL
Press the control to turn the audio system on or
off. Turn the control to raise or lower the volume.
TO CHOOSE TAPE OR CD
With a tape already in place, choose TAPE to
begin tape play while in radio or CD mode. With a
CD already in place, choose CD to begin CD play
while in radio or tape mode. The CD will begin
playing where it stopped last.
SEEK FUNCTION
The SEEK function control works in radio, tape and
CD modes. In radio mode, press the left arrow to
find the next listenable station down the frequency
band, and the right arrow to find the next listenable
station up the frequency band.
In tape mode,
press the left arrow for the previous selection on
the tape, and the right arrow for the next selection.
In CD mode, press the left arrow for the previous
track of the current disc. Press the right arrow to
forward to the next track of the current disc.
AM/FM SELECTION
The AM/FM select control works in radio, tape and
CD modes. In radio mode, use this control to
switch between AM, FM1 or FM2 memory preset
stations. In
tape or CD mode, use this control to
stop and begin playing the radio.
TUNE ADJUST
IN RADIO MODETo move to the next frequency down
the band, press the left arrow. To move through all
the frequencies quickly, press and hold the left
arrow. Press the right arrow to move up the band
to the next station; hold the arrow to move quickly
through the other stations.
IN CD CHANGER MODE(IF EQUIPPED) To select the
previous disc in the CD changer, press the left
arrow. Hold the arrow to continue reversing
through the remaining discs. Press the right arrow
to select the next disc; hold the arrow to
fast-forward through the remaining discs.
SCAN FUNCTION
The SCAN function works in radio, tape or CD
modes. Press SCAN to hear a brief sampling of
all listenable stations in radio mode, to sample all
selections in tape or CD modes. Press SCAN
again to stop at the desired selection.
RADIO STATION MEMORY PRESET
These controls can be used to select up to six preset
AM stations and twelve FM stations (six in FM1 and
six in FM2). Choose the frequency band with the
AM/FM select control; select a station – press and
hold the memory preset control until the sound
returns. Your selection will be held in the memory.
REAR SEAT CONTROLS (IF EQUIPPED)
The rear seat controls allow rear seat passengers
to operate the radio, tape, CD, or CD changer. To
turn on the rear seat controls, press the memory
preset controls 3 and 5 at the same time. Repeat
to turn rear seat controls off.

UNLEADED FUEL RECOMMENDATIONS
Use “Regular” unleaded gasoline with an (R+M)/2
octane rating of 87. Your Windstar has a fuel
capacity of 26 gallons.
EXTERIOR MIRRORS
To adjust the power side view mirrors, use the left
arrow to adjust to the left, the right arrow to adjust
to the right. Return the control to the center
position to lock the mirrors in place.

accommodating and responsive with a long list of
thoughtful, family-oriented features.
In order to acquaint you with some of the most-
used features of your new Windstar, we invite you
to use this Quick Reference Guide with the
accompanying CD-ROM. Insert the CD into any
audio CD player; find the numbered call-outs on the
instrument panel portion of this guide, then select
the corresponding number on the CD audio track
for a fast, convenient introduction to Windstar.
For more comprehensive information, place the CD
into your computer (the CD jacket will tell you if your
computer meets the minimum configuration
requirements) – or consult your Owner’s Guide.
OVERHEAD CONSOLE
Your overhead console offers convenience
and functionality.
OVERHEAD LAMP An overhead lamp offers interior illumination.1
STORAGE COMPARTMENTS
Storage compartments allow you to store
sunglasses, coins or other small items. (This area
also features the Conversation Mirror, if equipped.)

POWER SLIDING DOOR CONTROLS
(IF EQUIPPED)
This area contains the controls that allow you to
open and close Windstar’s power sliding doors.

HOOD RELEASE
Pull the handle toward you to
release. From the front of your
vehicle, release the auxiliary
latch under the front center of the
hood and lift. Secure with the
prop rod.

HEADLAMP CONTROL
The first position clockwise controls the
parking lamps; the second position controls the
headlamps. If your vehicle is equipped with
autolamps, turn the control counterclockwise to
have the light-sensitive system automatically control
your headlamps. To use your
high
beams, push the turn signal stalk
forward; pull towards you to
deactivate. To adjust the brightness
of your
instrument panel, rotate
the dimmer control up or down.

SLEEPING BABY MODE
This thoughtful feature sees to it that a soft
light emanates from the floor of
your vehicle when doors are
opened, not into a sleeping
baby’s face. To activate, rotate the
dimmer control to first position
(dimmest position).

TURN SIGNAL AND
WINDSHIELD WIPER WASHER
Push the stalk down to activate your left turn
signal, up to activate the right turn signal.
To
mist the windshield, press and release the
end of the stalk once; one or two wiper cycles will
followautomatically. To wipe the windshield,
rotate the control
up to wipe more
quickly, down to
wipe more slowly.

To wash the rear window, rotate the control
down and hold as desired. To wipe the rear
window, choose “INT 1” for ten-second wiper
intervals, “INT 2” for one-second intervals, and
“OFF” when you’re finished.
SPEED CONTROL
To engage your speed control, make sure
you’re traveling at or above 30 mph and press “ON”.
To
set a higher speed, press and hold “SET+”;
release when you’ve reached the desired speed.
To
set a lower speed, press and hold “CST-”;
release when you’ve slowed to the desired speed.
To
return to a previously set speed, press “RES”
(you must be traveling
above 30 mph). To
disengage, slow the
vehicle or press “OFF”.

LOW TIRE PRESSURE
WARNING SYSTEM
The Low Tire Pressure Warning Lamp is located
in the upper right of your instrument cluster; this
system monitors tire inflation. If any tire is low, the
light will illuminate. This system is sensitive to tire
pressure changes resulting from bumpy roads, low
traction situations (gravel, snow or slush), tire
chains, heavy loads, trailer towing and uneven
treadwear. It needs to be reset whenever you rotate
tires, install new ones, or
experience any other change in tire
pressure. To reset the system,
press and hold the reset button for
3 seconds. The light will flash 3
times to confirm the system has
been reset.

CHECK ENGINE
It’s normal for warning and control lights to
illuminate when you start your
engine. If any lights remain
illuminated after start-up, check
your Owner’s Guide (Instrument
Cluster Warnings & Control Lights
section) for detailed information.

OIL CHANGE RESET SYSTEM
(IF EQUIPPED WITH MESSAGE CENTER)
This system monitors oil quality to tell you if you
need to “CHANGE OIL SOON” or change oil
immediately (“OIL CHANGE
REQUIRED”). After changing the
oil, reset the warning light by
pressing and holding the reset
button for 3 seconds.

CLOCK CONTROLS
Press and hold “CLK” until “CLOCK SET”
appears in the display. Hold
down the "CLK" button while
pressing “SEEK” to set hours,
press “TUNE” to set minutes;
press “CLK” again to exit this
feature.

ADJUSTABLE PEDALS
Your accelerator and brake pedals can be
adjusted within 3” of original placement to provide
you with an extra measure of driving confidence.
Stop your vehicle, put the gearshift lever in P
(Park) and press the rocker
control to adjust the pedals
towards you or away from you;
adjust until you find the position
that offers the greatest comfort
and control.

TRACTION CONTROL
This system helps your vehicle maintain
traction on slippery surfaces by detecting and
controlling wheel spin. If you get stuck in snow, try
switching the system off by
pressing the control button, then
cautiously apply gas. (Turning
the traction control system off
may help free the vehicle by
allowing the tires to spin freely;
applying too much gas may worsen the situation.)

REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER (IF EQUIPPED)
Push to clear the rear window of
thin ice and fog. The defroster
turns off automatically after 10
minutes, or when the ignition is
turned “OFF”.

CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM
The top controls of this
system manage climate
for the front of your
vehicle; the lower controls
manage the back.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL– slide left for cooler air, right
for warmer.
FAN SPEED– turn to control the volume of air circulated.
MAX A/C– uses recirculated air to cool your interior
quickly and economically.
STANDARD A/C– uses outside air; it’s more quiet, but
not quite as efficient.
In vehicles equipped with auxiliary climate
control, rear seat passengersare able to select
temperature, control the volume of air directed to
rear registers and choose between overhead
registers and/or the floor register.

The volume control allows the rear seat passengers
to adjust the volume level of the audio system.
Press the MEDIA control to toggle to any other
desired media source. The memory control allows
you to scroll through radio presets or (with CD’s)
select the next disc. The SEEK control has varying
functions depending on which mode is enabled.
TO PLAY A VIDEO GAME:
Connect the video line from your game device to the
VIDEO jack. Connect the left and right audio cables
to the left (L) and right (R) audio jacks. Ensure that
the system is in AUX mode. The LCD screen will turn
on and the AUX indicator will illuminate. If desired,
press the headphone control and plug a 3.5mm
headphone into the headphone jack.

Your AutoVision® Video Entertainment System allows
you to watch movie rentals and your favorite home
videocassettes; it also allows you to plug in and play
a variety of standard video games.
