Install a garage door opener (if equipped)
The storage compartment can be used to hold a varietyof aftermarket
garage door openers. To install your garage door opener:
1. Open the storage compartment
door.
2. Remove the storage clip and stow
it away.
3. Place the Velcrostrip onto the
back of the garage door opener
control.
4. Adhere the back of garage door
opener control to the Velcrostrip
found inside the storage
compartment. Make sure that the controls for the garage door opener
face outward.
5. Place the height adjusters onto
the back of the storage
compartment door. Add as many
adjusters needed to activate the
garage door opener.
6. Close the storage compartment
door and press the garage door
opener control to verifythat it
works. If not, you may need to add
more adjusters.
AUXILIARY POWER POINT
Power outlets are designed for
accessory plugs only. Do not
hang any type of accessory or
accessory bracket from the plug.
Improper use of the power
outlet can cause damage not
covered by your warranty.
The auxiliarypower point is located
on the instrument panel.
Do not plug optional electrical accessories into the cigarette
lighter. Use the power point.

pretensioner. Do NOT place objects between the seats, this could
interfere with the functioning of the pretensioner. For the SuperCab and
CrewCab base bench seats and all Regular Cab seating positions, the
safetybelts are equipped with a retractor pretensioner.
The safetybelt pretensioners are designed to activate onlyduring certain
frontal or near-frontal collisions with sufficient longitudinal deceleration.
A safetybelt pretensioner is a device which tightens the webbing of the
lap and shoulder belts during some collisions in such a waythat theyfit
more snuglyagainst the body.
The driver and front outboard passenger safetybelt system (including
retractors, buckles and height adjusters) must be replaced if the vehicle
is involved in a collision that results in the activation of the safetybelt
pretensioners. Refer to theSafety belt maintenancesection in this
chapter.
Failure to replace the safetybelt assemblyunder the above
conditions could result in severe personal injuries in the event of
a collision.
Front safety belt height adjustment
If your shoulder belts come out of the seatback, you will not have a
safetybelt height adjuster.
Adjust the height of the shoulder belt so the belt rests across the middle
of your shoulder.

To adjust the shoulder belt height,
push the button and slide the height
adjuster up or down. Release the
button and pull down on the height
adjuster to make sure it is locked in
place.
Position the safetybelt height adjusters so that the belt rests
across the middle of your shoulder. Failure to adjust the safety
belt properlycould reduce the effectiveness of the seat belt and
increase the risk of injuryin a collision.
Safety belt warning light and indicator chime
The safetybelt warning light illuminates in the instrument cluster and a
chime sounds to remind the occupants to fasten their safetybelts.
Conditions of operation
If... Then...
The driver’s safetybelt is not
buckled before the ignition switch
is turned to the ON position...The safetybelt warning light
illuminates 1-2 minutes and the
warning chime sounds 4-8
seconds.
The driver’s safetybelt is buckled
while the indicator light is
illuminated and the warning chime
is sounding...The safetybelt warning light and
warning chime turn off.
The driver’s safetybelt is buckled
before the ignition switch is turned
to the ON position...The safetybelt warning light and
indicator chime remain off.
BeltMinder
The BeltMinder feature is a supplemental warning to the safetybelt
warning function. This feature provides additional reminders to the
driver that the driver’s safetybelt is unbuckled byintermittently
sounding a chime and illuminating the safetybelt warning lamp in the
instrument cluster.

Safety belt extension assembly
If the safetybelt is too short when fullyextended, there is a 20 cm
(8 inch) safetybelt extension assemblythat can be added (part number
611C22). This assemblycan be obtained from your dealer at no cost.
Use onlyextensions manufactured bythe same supplier as the safety
belt. Manufacturer identification is located at the end of the webbing on
the label. Also, use the safetybelt extension onlyif the safetybelt is too
short for you when fully extended.
Do not use extensions to change the fit of the shoulder belt
across the torso.
Safety belt maintenance
Inspect the safetybelt systems periodicallyto make sure theywork
properlyand are not damaged. Inspect the safetybelts to make sure
there are no nicks, tears or cuts. Replace if necessary. All safety belt
assemblies, including retractors, buckles, front seat belt buckle
assemblies, buckle support assemblies (slide bar-if equipped), shoulder
belt height adjusters (if equipped), shoulder belt guide on seatback (if
equipped), child safetyseat LATCH and tether anchors, and attaching
hardware, should be inspected after a collision. Ford Motor Company
recommends that all safetybelt assemblies used in vehicles involved in a
collision be replaced. However, if the collision was minor and a qualified
technician finds that the belts do not show damage and continue to
operate properly, theydo not need to be replaced. Safetybelt assemblies
not in use during a collision should also be inspected and replaced if
either damage or improper operation is noted.
Failure to inspect and if necessaryreplace the safetybelt
assemblyunder the above conditions could result in severe
personal injuries in the event of a collision.

2. Measure the height of a reference point on the front and rear bumpers
at the center of the vehicle.
3. Attach the trailer to the vehicle and adjust the hitch equalizers so that
the front bumper height is within 0–13 mm (0.5 in) of the reference
point. After proper adjustment, the rear bumper should be no higher
than in Step 2.
Note:Adjusting an equalizing hitch so the rear bumper of the vehicle is
higher than it was unloaded will defeat the function of the load
equalizing hitch and maycause unpredictable handling.
Safety chains
Always connect the trailer’s safety chains to the frame or hook retainers
of the vehicle hitch. To connect the trailer’s safetychains, cross the
chains under the trailer tongue and allow slack for turning corners.
If you use a rental trailer, follow the instructions that the rental agency
gives to you.
Do not attach safety chains to the bumper.
Trailer brakes
Electric brakes and manual, automatic or surge-type trailer brakes are safe
if installed properlyand adjusted to the manufacturer’s specifications. The
trailer brakes must meet local and Federal regulations.
Do not connect a trailer’s hydraulic brake system directly to your
vehicle’s brake system. Your vehicle may not have enough
braking power and your chances of having a collision greatly increase.
The braking system of the tow vehicle is rated for operation at the
GVWR not GCWR.
Trailer lamps
Trailer lamps are required on most towed vehicles. Make sure your
trailer lamps conform to local and Federal regulations. See your dealer or
trailer rental agencyfor proper instructions and equipment for hooking
up trailer lamps.
Using a step bumper (if equipped)
The rear bumper is equipped with an integral hitch and onlyrequires a
ball with a 25.4 mm (one inch) shank diameter. The bumper has a 2,270
kg (5,000 lb.) trailer weight and 227 kg (500 lb.) tongue weight capacity.
If it is necessaryto relocate the trailer hitch ball position, a
frame-mounted trailer hitch must be installed.

•Tires have their maximum inflation pressure and associated load rating
imprinted on the tire sidewall. This pressure mayor maynot be the
same as that shown as recommended on the vehicle. The vehicle
operator mayhave to adjust the tire inflation pressure to
accommodate the snowplow and payload. Consult your dealer or
equipment installer for help with proper inflation pressures.
•Federal and some local regulations require additional exterior lamps
for snowplow-equipped vehicles. Consult your dealer for additional
information.
•After installing a snowplow to the vehicle, ensure the vehicle’s front
toe alignment and front ride height are within specification (reset if
required). These specifications are located in the vehicle’s Workshop
Manual.
Note:Do not exceed the GVWR or the GAWR specified on the
certification label.
Removing snowplow
After removing a snowplow from the vehicle, ensure the vehicle’s front toe
alignment and front ride height are within specification (reset if required).
Snowplowing with your air bag-equipped vehicle
Your vehicle is equipped with a driver and passenger air bag
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) The SRS is designed to activate in
certain frontal and offset frontal collisions when the vehicle sustains
sufficient longitudinal deceleration.
Careless or high speed driving while plowing snow which results in
sufficient vehicle decelerations can deploythe air bag. Such driving also
increases the risk of accidents.
All occupants of the vehicle, including the driver, should always
properlywear their safetybelts, even when an air bag (SRS) is
provided.
Never remove or defeat the “tripping mechanisms” designed into the
snow removal equipment byits manufacturer. Doing so maycause
damage to the vehicle and the snow removal equipment as well as
possible air bag deployment.
Do not attempt to service, repair, or modifythe Air Bag
Supplemental Restraint System or its fuses. See your Ford or
Lincoln Mercurydealer.
