INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to
Ignition Switch

C1 CHECK THE RADIO FOR NORMAL OPERATION
z
Key in ON position.
z Check the radio for normal operation.
z Does the radio operate correctly? Yes
GO to
C2 .
No
Go To Pinpoint Test D .
C2 CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT THE IGNITION SWITCH
z
Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250 .
z Measure the voltage between ignition switch C250 Pin B5,
Circuit 1050 (LG/VT), harness side and ground.
z Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes
INSTALL a new ignition
switch. REFER to
Ignition Switch . TEST the system for
normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the
system for normal operation. Test Step Result / Action to Take
D1 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH
z
Carry out the ignition switch component test.
REFER to Wiring Diagrams Cell 149,
Component Testing.
z Is the ignition switch OK ? Yes
INSTALL a new BJB. TEST the system for
normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to
Ignition Switch
. TEST the system for

Key in OFF position.
z Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250 . Yes

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Multifunction Switch
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder. 1. Insert the ignition key into the ignition switch lock cylinder and turn to RUN position.
2. Push the ignition switch lock cylinder release tab with a punch while pulling out the ignition switch lock cylinder.
3. Remove the tilt wheel handle.
4. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds. 1. Remove the screws.
2. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
5. Remove the multifunction switch. 1. Remove the screws.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Key Release Button
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder. 1. Insert the ignition key into the ignition switch lock cylinder and turn to RUN position.
2. Push the ignition switch lock cylinder release tab with a punch while pulling out the ignition switch lock cylinder.
3. Remove the tilt wheel handle.
4. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds. 1. Remove the screws.
2. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
5. Remove the key release button. 1. Remove the key release button bolt.

Valve Train Analysis— Engine Off—Valve Cover Removed
Check for damaged or severely worn parts and correct assembly. Make sure correct parts are used
with the static engine analysis as follows.
Valve Train Analysis— Engine Off, Rocker Arm
z Check for loose mounting bolts, studs and nuts.
z Check for plugged oil feed in the rocker arms (6564) or cylinder head.
Valve Train Analysis— Engine Off, Camshaft Roller Followers and Hydraulic Lash Adjusters,
Overhead Camshaft
zCheck for loose mounting bolts on camshaft carriers.
z Check for plugged oil feed in the camshaft roller followers, lash adjusters or cylinder heads.
Valve Train Analysis— Engine Off, Camshaft— Engines
z Check for broken or damaged parts.
Valve Train Analysis— Engine Off, Push Rods
z Check for bent push rods (6565) and restricted oil passage.
Valve Train Analysis— Valve Springs
z Check for broken or damaged parts.
Valve Train Analysis— Engine Off, Valve Spring Retainer and Valve Spring Retainer Keys
z Check for correct seating of the valve spring retainer key (6518) on the valve stem and in valve
spring retainer (6514).
z Check for correct seating on the valve stem.
Valve Train Analysis— Engine Off, Valves and Cylinder Head
z Check for plugged oil drain back holes.
z Check for worn or damaged valve tips.
z Check for missing or damaged guide- mounted valve stem seal.
z Check collapsed valve tappet gap.
z Check installed valve spring height.
z Check for missing or worn valve spring seats.
z Check for plugged oil metering orifice in cylinder head oil reservoir (if equipped).
Static checks (engine off) are to be made on the engine prior to the dynamic procedure. Klj . 14 ba

5. Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft pulley (6B321).
Installation 1. Apply a bead of silicone gasket and sealant to the keyway in the crankshaft damper and use the special tool to install the crankshaft pulley.
2. Install the crankshaft bolt.
