In order to calibrate, CAL must be displayed in the
mirror compass windows. If CAL is not displayed, push
in the COMP button for approximately eight seconds
or until CAL is displayed.
The compass can be calibrated by driving the vehicle in
circles at ®ve mph (8 km/h) or less until the display
reads a direction.
Compass Variance
The mirror is set in zone eight upon leaving the factory.
It will be necessary to adjust the compass to
compensate for compass variance if you live outside
zone eight. Under certain circumstances, as during
a long distance cross-country trip, it will be necessary to
adjust for compass variance. Compass variance is
the difference between earth's magnetic north and true
geographic north. If not adjusted to account for
compass variance, your compass could give false
readings.To adjust for compass variance:
1. Find your current location and variance zone
number on the following zone map.
2. Press and hold the COMP button for ®ve seconds
until a zone number appears in the display.
3. Press the COMP button on the bottom of the mirror
until the new zone number appears in the display.
After you stop pressing the button, the display
will show a compass direction within a few seconds.
2-50
If the mirrors are accidently manually folded in or you
notice that the mirrors will not stay in the unfolded
position, unfold and fold them at least twice using the
mirror controls. Do not unfold them manually. The
mirrors may not stay in place otherwise.
The mirrors may also include a memory function which
works in conjunction with the memory seats. See
Memory Seat on page 2-85for more information.
Outside Convex Mirror
Your passenger's side mirror is convex. A convex
mirror's surface is curved so you can see more from the
driver's seat.
{CAUTION:
A convex mirror can make things (like other
vehicles) look farther away than they really are.
If you cut too sharply into the right lane, you
could hit a vehicle on your right. Check your
inside mirror or glance over your shoulder
before changing lanes.
Outside Heated Mirrors
Your vehicle may have this feature.
When you press this
button, a defogger warms
the heated driver's and
passenger's outside
rearview mirrors to help
clear them of ice,
snow and condensation.
If your vehicle has a rear window defogger, it will also
operate when you press this button. See ªRear Window
Defoggerº under
Automatic Climate Control System
on page 3-20for more information.
2-52
To use it, pull the turn signal lever toward you, then
release it.
If your headlamps are in the automatic position or on
low beam, your high-beam headlamps will turn on.
They'll stay on as long as you hold the lever toward you.
The high-beam indicator on the instrument panel
cluster will come on. Release the lever to return to
normal operation.
Windshield Wipers
You control the windshield wipers by turning the band
with the wiper symbol on it.
8(Mist):For a single wiping cycle, turn the band to
mist. Hold it there until the wipers start. Then let go. The
wipers will stop after one wipe. If you want more
wipes, hold the band on mist longer.
N(Delay):You can set the wiper speed for a long or
short delay between wipes. This can be very useful
in light rain or snow. Turn the band to choose the delay
time. The closer to the top of the lever, the shorter
the delay.
6(Low Speed):For steady wiping at low speed,
turn the band away from you to the ®rst solid band past
the delay settings.
1(High Speed):For high-speed wiping, turn the
band further, to the second solid band past the
delay settings.
9(Off):To stop the wipers, move the band to off.
Be sure to clear ice and snow from the wiper blades
before using them. If they're frozen to the windshield,
carefully loosen or thaw them. If your blades do become
worn or damaged, get new blades or blade inserts.
Windshield Washer
L
(Washer Fluid):There is a paddle marked with the
windshield washer symbol at the top of the multifunction
lever. To spray washer ¯uid on the windshield, push
the paddle. The wipers will clear the window and then
either stop or return to your preset speed.
{CAUTION:
In freezing weather, don't use your washer
until the windshield is warmed. Otherwise the
washer ¯uid can form ice on the windshield,
blocking your vision.

Pressing this button also cancels the auto recirculation
feature. To resume the auto recirculation function,
press the AUTO button. Each time the vehicle is started,
the system will revert to the auto recirculation function. If you select recirculation while in defrost, defog or ¯oor,
the light in the button will ¯ash and then go out to let
you know that this is not allowed. This is normal
and helps to prevent fogging.
When the weather is cool or damp, operating the
system in recirculation for extended periods of time may
cause fogging of the vehicle's windows. To clear the
fog, select either defog or front defrost.
You may also notice that the A/C compressor will run
while in recirculation mode. This is normal and helps to
prevent fogging.9(Off):Press this button to turn off the entire climate
control system. Outside air will still enter the vehicle,
and will be directed to the ¯oor. This direction can
be changed by pressing the mode button. The

(Air Conditioning):Press this button to turn the air
conditioning (A/C) compressor on and off. The
snow¯ake symbol will appear on the display when the
A/C is on.
When air conditioning is selected or in AUTO mode, the
system will run the air conditioning automatically to
cool and dehumidify the air entering the vehicle. If you
select A/C off while in front defrost, defog or
recirculation, the A/C snow¯ake symbol will turn off, but
the A/C compressor will still run to help prevent
fogging.
On hot days, open the windows long enough to let hot
inside air escape. This reduces the time it takes for
your vehicle to cool down. Then keep your windows
closed for the air conditioner to work its best.
On cool, but sunny days while using manual operation
of the automatic system, use bi-level to deliver warm
air to the ¯oor and cooler air to the instrument
panel outlets. To warm or cool the air delivered, turn the
temperature knob to the desired setting.
In AUTO mode the system will cool and dehumidify the
air inside the vehicle. Also while in AUTO mode, the
system will maximize its performance by using
recirculation as necessary.

the knob is in off outside air will still enter the vehicle,
and will be directed based on the position of the
mode knob. The temperature can also be adjusted
using the temperature levers.
Turn the right knob clockwise or counterclockwise to
direct the air¯ow inside of your vehicle. To change the current mode, select one of the following:
H(Vent):This mode directs air to the instrument
panel vents.
)(Bi-Level):This mode directs half of the air to the
instrument panel vents; then directs most of the
remaining air to the ¯oor vents. A little air is directed
toward the windshield and the side window vents. Cooler
air is directed to the upper vents and warmer air to
the ¯oor vents.
6(Floor):This mode directs most of the air to the
¯oor vents with a little air directed to the windshield and
the side window vents.
h(Recirculation):The recirculation mode is used
to recirculate the air inside of your vehicle. Use this
mode to help prevent outside odors and/or dust
