FRONT AIRBAGS Disarming the passenger airbag Insert the ignition key in switch 1
and turn it:
Ð to the ÒONÓposition, the pas-
senger airbag is armed,

senger airbag is not armed.
THE REMOTE CONTROL
A single press on button Alocks
the doors and boot or tailgate.

KEYS
Using the key in the driverÕs door lock will lock or unlock the doorsand boot or tailgate.
Passenger airbag precautions
For a vehicle fitted with a disarm- ing switch:
Ð disarm theairbag if youinstall arearwards-facing childseat.
Ð arm the airbag whenan adult is inthe seat.
For a vehicle not fitted with a dis-arming switch:
Ð do not install rear-wards-facing childseats on the frontpassenger seat.
Never place your feet or anyobject on the fascia.

Operational Check This is by means of the warning light on the instrument panel. If the passenger airbag is armed or if your vehicle is not fitted with apassenger airbag, the warninglight comes on for 6 seconds whenthe ignition is switched on. If the passenger airbag is notarmed, one of the warning lightsremains on. Always contact your PEUGEOT dealer if the warning light flashes.

STARTING The 4 positions of the key in the ignition:
ÒSÓ for STOP
The ignition is off.
ÒAÓ for Accessories The ignition
is off but the accessories can be used. ÒMÓ for Running The ignition is
on.
ÒDÕÕ for Starting Operates the
starter. Steering lockBefore starting, unlock the steer-
ing if necessary, by gently turningthe steering wheel at the same
time as you turn the key. It is advisable to press the clutch pedal while operating the starter
to make starting easier.
Starting a petrol engine
Do not press the accelerator.
Operate the starter, without
releasing the key, until the engineturns. Starting a diesel engine Do not press the accel-
erator.
Turn the key to position ÔÔM ÕÕ.
If the engine is warm enough, thepre-heat light does not come on
and you can start immediately. If the pre-heat light comes on, wait for it to go out before operat-
ing the starter. HDI engine special feature If the engine stalls, it is necessary
to return the key to position ÔÔ SÕÕ
before restarting.
Never race a cold engine. Never run the engine in a confined space.
Do not make any modificationsto the steering lock.

Confidential card This contains the identification combination which is required ifany work is carried out on the
system by a PEUGEOT dealer.This combination is concealed bya strip which must not be removedunless required. Keep your card in a safe place, never in your vehicle.
ELECTRONIC ENGINEIMMOBILISER This locks the engine control system a few moments after the
ignition has been switched off andtherefore prevents starting of thevehicle by anyone who has not
got the key.
Operation Each key has an electronic chip which has a special code. When the ignition is switched on the key code is recognised andstarting is possible. If the key does not have a code
or has a different code from that
stored in the system memory, thevehicle will not start. Additional key
You can store up to 5 keys in the
memory. If you require an additional key or
wish to change a faulty key, you
must visit a PEUGEOT dealerwith the confidential card and allthe keys in your possession.
When buying a second hand car: Ensure that you are given the confidential card. It is advisable to have the key codes memorised by a PEUGEOT dealer to ensure that the keys in your possessionare the only ones which can start the vehicle.
Do not make any modifications to the PEUGEOT electronic engineimmobiliser system.

Automatic wipe The system automatically adjusts the wiper timing to the intensity of the rainfall.
After switching off the ignition or starting in position
1, it is necessary to re-set this
function. This is possible in two ways:

FUEL FILLER FLAP
To open*: firmly pull the handle on the floor to the outside of the drivers seat.
To close: from outside, push the flap back and check that it is secured
correctly. The fuel filler cap is opened and closed with the ignition key independently of opening the doors (during model year). Filling with fuel Switch off the engine. There is a holder for the fuel filler cap.
A label on the inside of the flap shows which fuels are permitted and which are not allowed. The capacity of the tank is approximately 13 gallons (60 litres).
Fuel low warning light The fuel low warning light indicates that the quantity of fuel remaining in the tank is approximately 1.3 gallons (6 litres).

SERVICE INDICATOR This is a reminder of when the next service is due in accordance with the
manufacturerÕs maintenance schedule. Operation The spanner symbolising the service operations comes on for five seconds
when the ignition is switched on. Thetotal distance recorder displays the dis-tance remaining (in round figures)before the next service. When the distance remaining beforethe next service is less than 1000 km.
When a service is overdue. For five seconds after the ignition is switched on, the service symbol andthe excess distance flash.
Example: 4800 km remain before the
next service is due. For five secondsafter the ignition is switched on, thedisplay shows:
5 seconds after switching on the igni-tion, the display resumes normaloperation and the service symbol
remains lit. The display shows thetotal and trip distances.

Your PEUGEOT dealer carries out this operation after each service.
However, if you service the vehicleyourself, reset as follows:
- Switch off the ignition.

- Switch on the ignition.
- The display begins a 10 second countdown.
- Keep button 1pressed for
10 seconds.
- The display shows [= 0]and the
service symbol disappears.
Service intervals If your vehicle is used in certain par-
ticularly difficult conditions it is nec-essary to follow the "Arduous condi-tions" servicing schedule, whichinvolves shorter intervals between
services (see your Warranty andMaintenance Record booklet). Comment:
If the time limit between
two services is reached before the rel- evant mileage limit, the servicespanner symbol will light up and thedisplay will show 0.
