The ignition switch is on the right
side of the steering column. It has
f our positions:
LOCK(0)
ACCESSORY (I)
ON (II)
START (III) If the f ront wheels are turned, the
anti-thef t lock may sometimes make
it difficult to turn the key from
LOCK to ACCESSORY. Firmly turn
the steering wheel to the lef t or to
the right as you turn the key.You can insert or
remove the key only in this position.
To switch f rom ACCESSORY to
LOCK, you must push the key in
slightly as you turn it. If your car has
an automatic transmission, the shif t
lever must also be in Park. The anti-
thef t lock will lock the steering
column when you remove the key.

you can operate the audio system
and the accessory power socket.
Each door has a lock tab on the top.
Push the tab down to lock the door
and pull it up to unlock.
This is the normal key
position when driving. All f eatures
and accessories on the car are usable.
Several of the lights on the instru-
ment panel come on as a test when
you turn the ignition switch f rom
ACCESSORY to ON.
Use this position
only to start the engine. The switch
returns to ON (II) when you let go of
the key. You will hear a reminder beeper if
you leave the key in the ignition
switch in the LOCK (0) or
ACCESSORY (I) position and open
thedriver’sdoor.Removethekeyto
turn of f the beeper.
The engine will not start if the
Immobilizer System does not
recognize the key’s coding (see page
).

To lock any passenger’s door when
getting out of the car, push the lock
tab down and close the door.To lock any passenger’s door when

The f ront doors can be locked and
unlocked f rom the outside with thekey. All doors can be locked f rom the
outsidebyusingthekeyineither
f ront door. To unlock only the driver’s
door f rom the outside, insert the key
in the driver’s door lock, turn the key
and release it. If you turn the key
and hold it, all doors will unlock. All
f our doors will unlock when you
unlock the passenger’s door with thekey.
Each f ront door has a master door
lock switch. Either switch locks and
unlocks all doors. Push the switch
down to lock all doors, and up to
unlock them.

If you f orget and leave the key in the
ignition switch, Lockout Prevention
will not allow you to lock the driver’s
door. With the driver’s door open
andthekeyintheignition,both
master door lock switches are
disabled. However, if the driver’s
door is not open, the master door
lock switches are not disabled.
Pushing the switch down on the
open passenger’s door will lock all
doors. If you try to lock an open
driver’s door by pushing in the lock
tab, the tabs on all doors pop out.
Pushinginthelocktabonthe
passenger’s door only locks that door. You can lock and unlock your carwith the remote transmitter. When
you push the LOCK button, all doors
lock. The parking lights, side marker
lights, and taillights f lash once.When you push the LOCK button a
second time within 5 seconds after
you have locked the doors, you will
hear a beep to verify that the doors
are locked and the security system
has set.
When you push the UNLOCK button
once, only the driver’s door unlocks.
The remaining doors unlock when
you push the button a second time.
The parking lights, side marker
lights, and taillights f lash twice.

The childproof door locks are
designed to prevent children seated
in the rear f rom accidentally opening
the rear doors. Each rear door has a
lock lever near the edge. With the
lever in the LOCK position, the door
cannot be opened f rom the inside
regardless of the position of the lock
tab. To open the door, pull the lock
tab up and use the outside door
handle.To close the trunk, press down on
the trunk lid.

driving to avoid damaging the lid,

To protect items in the trunk when
you need to give the key to someone
else:Lock the trunk release handle
with the master key. Also make
sure the trunk pass-through cover
is locked (see page ).
Give the person the valet key. As a saf ety f eature, your car has a
release lever on the trunk latch so
the trunk can be opened f rom the
inside. To open the trunk, push the release
lever to the lef t.
Parents should decide if their
children should be shown how to use
this feature.

µTo change the angle of the seat-back,
pull up on the lever on the outside of
the seat bottom. Move the seat-back
to the desired position and release
the lever. Let the seat-back latch in
the new position.
To adjust the seat forward and
backward, pull up on the lever under
the seat cushion’s f ront edge. Move
the seat to the desired position and
releasethelever.Trytomovethe
seat to make sure it is locked in
position.

All V-6 models, and the 4-cylinder EX
model with leather interior have a
power adjustable driver’s seat.
The EX V-6 model also has a power
adjustable passenger’s seat (See
page ).
The U.S. SE and 4-cylinder EX
models without leather interior have
a power seat bottom height
adjustment. All other seat
adjustments in these models are
manual.
The f ront passenger’s seat in all
4-cylinder models, the U.S. LX V-6,
and the Canadian type SE V-6
models adjusts manually.
The DX Value Package, LX, SE and
4-cylinder models in the U.S. and the
LX, SE, and EX models in Canada
have manual seat adjustments (see
