Power Door Locks
The power door lock
switches are located on
the driver's and front
passenger's armrests.
Remove the ignition key and press the lock symbol to
lock all of the doors at once. To unlock the doors, press
the other side of the switch.
Programmable Automatic Door Locks
Your vehicle is equipped with an automatic lock/unlock
feature which enables you to program your vehicle's
power door locks. You can program this feature through
the Driver Information Center (DIC), or by the
following method.Programmable Locking Feature
The following is the list of available programming options:
Mode 1: All doors lock when the transmission is
shifted into gear.
Mode 2: All doors lock when the vehicle speed is
greater than 8 mph (13 km/h).
Mode 3: No automatic door locking.
The automatic door locks were pre
-programmed at the
factory to lock all the doors when the transmission is
shifted into gear. The following instructions detail how
to program your door locks differently than the factory
setting. Choose one of the three programming options
listed above before entering the program mode.
To enter the program mode you need to do
the following:
1. Begin with the ignition off. Then pull the turn
signal/multifunction lever toward you and hold it
there while you perform the next step.
2. Turn the key to RUN and LOCK twice. Then, with
the key in LOCK, release the turn signal/multifunction
lever. Once you do this, you will hear the lock switch
lock and unlock, the horn will chirp twice, and a
30 second program timer will begin.
2-8
3. You are now ready to program the automatic door
locks. Select one of the three programming options
listed above, and press the lock side of the power
door lock switch to cycle through the lock options.
You will have 30 seconds to begin programming.
If you exceed the 30 second limit, the locks will
automatically lock and unlock and the horn will
chirp twice to indicate that you have left the program
mode. If this occurs, repeat the procedure beginning
with Step 1 to re
-enter the programming mode.
You can exit the program mode any time by turning the
ignition to RUN (the locks will automatically lock and
unlock and the horn will chirp twice to indicate that you
are leaving the program mode). If the lock/unlock
switches are not pressed while in the programming
mode, the current auto lock/unlock setting will not
be modified.
See your dealer for more information.
Programmable Unlocking Feature
The following is the list of available programming options:
Mode 1: Driver's door unlocks when the
transmission is shifted into PARK (P).Mode 2: All doors unlock when the transmission is
shifted into PARK (P)
Mode 3: All doors unlock when the key is removed
from the ignition.
Mode 4: No automatic door unlock.
The automatic door locks were pre
-programmed at the
factory to unlock the driver's door once the transmission
is shifted to PARK (P). The following instructions detail
how to program your door locks differently than the
factory setting. Choose one of the four programming
options listed above before entering the program mode.
To enter the program mode you need to do
the following:
1. Begin with the ignition off. Then pull the turn
signal/multifunction lever toward you and hold it
there while you perform the next step.
2. Turn the key to RUN and LOCK twice. Then, with the
key in LOCK, release the turn signal/multifunction
lever. Once you do this, you will hear the lock switch
lock and unlock, the horn will chirp twice, and a
30 second program timer will begin.
2-9
3. You are now ready to program the automatic door
locks. Select one of the four programming options
listed above, and press the unlock side of the power
door lock switch to cycle through the unlocking
options. You will have 30 seconds to begin
programming. If you exceed the 30 second limit, the
locks will automatically lock and unlock and the
horn will chirp twice to indicate that you have left
the program mode. If this occurs, repeat the
procedure beginning with Step 1 to re
-enter the
programming mode.
Rear Door Security Locks
With this feature, you can lock the rear doors so they
can't be opened from the inside by passengers. To use
one of these locks do the following:
1. Open one of the rear doors.
2. You will find a security
lock lever located on the
inside edge of each rear
door. Move the lever
down to engage the
safety lock. Move the
lever up to disengage
the safety lock.
3. Close the door.
4. Do the same thing to the other rear door.
The rear doors of your vehicle cannot be opened from
the inside when this feature is in use. If you want to
open the rear door when the security lock is on, unlock
the door and open the door from the outside.
2-11
Changes or modifications to this system by other than an
authorized service facility could void authorization to
use this equipment.
At times you may notice a decrease in range. This is
normal for any remote keyless entry system. If the
transmitter does not work or if you have to stand closer
to your vehicle for the transmitter to work, try this:
Check the distance. You may be too far from your
vehicle. You may need to stand closer during rainy
or snowy weather.
Check the location. Other vehicles or objects may be
blocking the signal. Take a few steps to the left or
right, hold the transmitter higher, and try again.
Check to determine if battery replacement or
resynchronization is necessary. See the instructions
that follow.
If you're still having trouble, see your dealer or a
qualified technician for service.Operation
(Unlock): When you
press unlock, the driver's
door will unlock
automatically, the parking
lamps may flash and the
interior lights will go on.
You can program different feedback settings through the
Driver Information Center (DIC). For more information
see ªDriver Information Center (DIC)º in the Index.
(Lock): Press lock to lock all the doors. Press lock
again within three seconds and the horn will chirp.
(Panic): When the button with the horn symbol
on the key transmitter is pressed, the horn will sound
and the headlamps and taillamps will flash for up to
30 seconds. This can be turned off by pressing the horn
button again, or by waiting for 30 seconds, or by starting
the vehicle.
2-16
If a locked door is opened without the key or the remote
keyless entry transmitter, the alarm will go off. The
headlamps and parking lamps will flash for two minutes,
and the horn will sound for 30 seconds, then will turn
off to save the battery power.
Remember, the theft
-deterrent system won't activate if
you lock the doors with a key or use the manual door
lock. It activates only if you use a power door lock
switch with the door open, or with the remote keyless
entry transmitter. You should also remember that you
can start your vehicle with the correct ignition key if the
alarm has been set off.
Here's how to avoid setting off the alarm by accident:
If you don't want to activate the theft
-deterrent
system, the vehicle should be locked with the door
key after the doors are closed.
Always unlock a door with a key, or use the remote
keyless entry transmitter. Unlocking a door any other
way will set off the alarm.
If you set off the alarm by accident, unlock any door
with the key. You can also turn off the alarm by
pressing unlock on the remote keyless entry
transmitter. The alarm won't stop if you try to unlock
a door any other way.
Testing the Alarm
The alarm can be tested by following these steps:
1. From inside the vehicle, lower the driver's window
and open the driver's door.
2. Activate the system by locking the doors with the
power door lock switch while the door is open, or
with the remote keyless entry transmitter.
3. Get out of the vehicle, close the door and wait for the
SECURITY light to go out.
4. Then reach in through the window, unlock the door
with the manual door lock and open the door. This
should set off the alarm.
When the alarm is set the power door unlock switch is
not operational.
If the alarm does not sound when it should but the
headlamps flash, check to see if the horn works. The
horn fuse may be blown. To replace the fuse, see ªFuses
and Circuit Breakersº in the Index.
If the alarm does not sound or the headlamps do not
flash, the vehicle should be serviced by your dealer.

Locking Rear Axle
If your vehicle has this feature, your locking rear axle
can give you additional traction on snow, mud, ice, sand
or gravel. It works like a standard axle most of the time,
but when one of the rear wheels has no traction and the
other does, this feature will allow the wheel with
traction to move the vehicle.
Horn
To sound the horn, press the horn symbols on the
steering wheel pad.
Tilt Wheel
You should adjust the
steering wheel before you
drive. The tilt lever is
located on the driver's side
of the steering column,
under the turn signal lever.
You can raise it to the highest level to give your legs
more room when you enter and exit the vehicle.
To tilt the wheel, hold the steering wheel and pull the
lever toward you. Move the steering wheel to a
comfortable level, then release the lever to lock the
wheel in place.
Do not adjust the steering wheel while driving.

Cellular Antenna
The cellular antenna on the outside of your vehicle is
critical to effective communications using the OnStar
system. Optimum cellular reception can be obtained
when the mast is straight up and down.
OnStar Services
The following services are available within OnStar
service plans. Your vehicle comes with a specific
one
-year service plan that allows use of some or all of
the following services.
