Speedometer and Odometer
The speedometer lets you see your speed in both miles
per hour (mph) and kilometers per hour (km/h). The
odometer shows how far your vehicle has been driven,
in either miles (used in the United States) or kilometers
(used in Canada).
You may wonder what happens if a vehicle has to have a
new odometer installed. The new one may read the
correct mileage. This is because your vehicle's computer
has stored the mileage in memory.
Trip Odometer
The trip odometer can record the number of miles or
kilometers traveled for up to two trips.
The trip odometer button is
located to the left of the
steering wheel on the
instrument panel.The two trip modes are indicated by Trip A and Trip B.
In order to change from one mode to the other, press the
A/B portion of the TRIP button.
By pressing the bottom of this button, you can tell how
many miles have been recorded on either Trip A or
Trip B since you last set the odometer back to zero.
Press the RESET part of the button until zeros appear to
reset each trip mode.
If your vehicle is first sold in the United States,
the trip odometer will return to zero after 999.9 miles
(1 609 km). If your vehicle is first sold in Canada, the
trip odometer will return to zero after 1 999.9 km
(1,242 miles). The RESET TRIP A/B button only resets
the trip mode (A or B) that is being displayed. Each trip
mode must be reset individually.

Oil Life Indicator
This feature lets you know when to change the engine
oil. It's based on the engine oil temperatures and your
driving patterns.To see the display, press the INFO button several times until
ENGINE OIL LIFE appears. If you see 99% ENGINE OIL
LIFE, 99 percent of your current oil life remains.
The DIC may display a CHANGE ENGINE OIL
message. Always keep a written record of the mileage and
date when you changed your oil. For more information,
see ªMaintenance Scheduleº in the Index. If you see
CHANGE ENGINE OIL, it means the oil life is gone and
you should change the oil right away. The system doesn't
check how much oil you have, so you'll still have to check

When the oil is changed, you'll need to reset the system.

As in the chart shown previously, SAE 5W-30 is best for
your vehicle. However, you can use SAE 10W
-30 if it's
going to be 0F (
-18C) or above. These numbers on an
oil container show its viscosity, or thickness. Do not use
other viscosity oils, such as SAE 20W
-50.
NOTICE:
Use only engine oil with the American Petroleum
Institute Certified For Gasoline Engines
starburst symbol. Failure to use the
recommended oil can result in engine damage not
covered by your warranty.
GM Goodwrench
oil meets all the requirements for
your vehicle.
If you are in an area where the temperature falls
below
-20F (-29C), consider using either an
SAE 5W
-30 synthetic oil or an SAE 0W-30 oil. Both
will provide easier cold starting and better protection for
your engine at extremely low temperatures.
Engine Oil Additives
Don't add anything to your oil. The recommended oils
with the starburst symbol are all you will need for good
performance and engine protection.
When to Change Engine Oil
(GM Oil Life System)
Your vehicle has a computer system that lets you know
when to change the engine oil and filter. This is based on
engine revolutions and engine temperature, and not on
mileage. Based on driving conditions, the mileage at
which an oil change will be indicated can vary
considerably. For the oil life system to work properly,
you must reset the system every time the oil is changed.
When the system has calculated that oil life has been
diminished, it will indicate that an oil change is
necessary. A CHANGE ENGINE OIL message in the
Driver Information Center (DIC) will come on. Change
your oil as soon as possible within the next two times
you stop for fuel. It is possible that, if you are driving
under the best conditions, the oil life system may not
indicate that an oil change is necessary for over a year.
However, your engine oil and filter must be changed at
least once a year and at this time the system must be
reset. It is also important to check your oil regularly and
keep it at the proper level.
If the system is ever reset accidentally, you must change
your oil at 3,000 miles (5 000 km) since your last oil
change. Remember to reset the oil life system whenever
the oil is changed.
