Coolant temperature indicator When the needle is in zone A, the
temperature is correct. When the needle is in zone B, the
temperature is too high.In cases where the coolant tem- perature warning light comes on(linked to the STOPwarning light),
you must stop immediately.
Warning: wait for the engine to cool
down.
If necessary, top up the level.Because the cooling system is pres- surised, to prevent the risk of scald-ing, turn the cap two turns to allowthe pressure to drop. When the pressure has dropped, remove the cap and top up the level.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
Engine oil level and temperature When the ignition is switched on, this gauge indicates the engine oil levelfor approximately 20 seconds, then itindicates the engine oil temperature. Engine oil level The reading is valid only if the vehi- cle is on level ground, and the
engine has been switched off for 10minutes. With the ignition on, wait for the graduated sector to light up and theindicator needle to move. When the needle is in zone C, the oil
level is correct. When the needle is in zone D, the oil
level is incorrect. There is a risk of damage to the engine.
Check the level with the dipstick.
You must top up the level withoutexceeding the maximum level onthe gauge.
Engine oil temperature When the needle is in zone E, the
temperature is correct. When the needle is in zone F, the
temperature is too high.Reduce your speed to lower the temperature.
Service indicator and total distance recorder When the ignition is switched on, this indicates servicing information for afew seconds, then the total and tripdistances. Service functionSee the 'Service indicator' section.
Total distance recorder function The total distance is displayed on the left side of the screen and the tripdistance on the right side.

The engine and the ignition must be switched off when filling withfuel : Open the fuel filler flap by press-ing its front right hand edge,
Unscrew the cap and hook it overthe tab located on the inside of theflap.
When filling up your tank, do not con-
tinue after the 3rd cut-off of thepump; this could cause your vehicleto malfunction. The capacity of the tank is approx- imately 80 litres. After filling the tank, screw the capon fully and close the flap.
Fuel filler cap open When this light comes on,accompanied by an audiblesignal and the message'Fuel cap open' on the dis-
play, screw the cap on againand close the fuel filler flap.
FILLING WITH FUEL Low fuel level
When the minimum fuel level is reached, this warn-ing light comes on, accom-panied by an audible signaland the message 'Fuel
level low' on the multi-function dis-
play.
You can can still drive approxi- mately 30 miles (50 km) withoutfilling up with fuel. Filling with fuelLocking and unlocking of the fuel filler flap, the doors and the boot issimultaneous (except when selectiveunlocking is initialised; in this casepress the unlocking button of theremote control again).

Operating check
When a malfunction of the sys- tems occurs, the switch lightflashes and the warning lightcomes on, accompanied by anaudible signal and the mes-
sage 'ESP/ASR system faulty' on the
multi-function display.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have the system checked.
Disarming the ASR/ESP systems In exceptional conditions (starting a vehicle which is bogged down, stuck
in snow, on soft ground...), it may be
advisable to disarm the ASR system,so that the wheels can move freelyand regain grip.
Press the 'ESP OFF'
switch, located under thesteering wheel to the left.
The switch lights up and thewarning light comes on,accompanied by an audiblesignal and the message
'ASR/ESP system de-acti-vated' on the multiÐfunction
display : the ASR and ESP systems
no longer have any effect on theengine operation. These are triggered again :
automatically if the ignition is
switched off,
manually by pressing the switchagain.DYNAMIC STABILITY
CONTROL (ESP) AND
TRACTION CONTROL (ASR) These systems are linked and com-
plementary to the ABS system. In the event of a significant variation between the trajectory of the vehicle
and the path required by the driver,
the ESP system acts automaticallyon the engine and on the brake ofone or more wheels, to put the vehi-cle back on course. The traction control (ASR) system optimises drive, in order to avoid thewheels slipping, by acting on thebrakes of the drive wheels and onthe engine. It also enables the direc-tional stability of the vehicle to beimproved during acceleration. Operation of the ESP
and ASR systems
When one of the two sys-tems is in operation, thisindicator light flashes.
The ESP system offers exceptional safety in nor-mal driving, but this shouldnot encourage the driver totake extra risks or drive at
high speed. The correct functioning of this sys- tem depends on observation of themanufacturer's recommendationsregarding wheels (tyres and rims),the braking components and theelectronic components, as well asthe PEUGEOT assembly andoperation procedures. After an impact, have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer

Disconnect the battery.
Follow the instructions for use given by the battery charger manufacturer,
Reconnect the battery, starting with the negative (-) terminal,
Check that the terminals and connectors are clean. If they are covered with sulphate (whitish or greenish deposit), disconnect them and clean them,
Refit the style cover.
To start the vehicle from another battery: Remove the style cover to gain access to the battery,
Connect the red cable to the positive (+) terminals of both batteries,
Connect one end of the green or black cable to the negative (-) terminal of the
slave battery,
Connect the other end of the green or black cable to an earth point on the
broken down vehicle, as far as possible from the battery,
Start the engine and let it run,
Wait for the engine to return to idle then disconnect the cables,
Refit the style cover.
If electrical work is carried
out, disconnect the starter battery.
It is advisable to disconnect the battery if the vehicle is
not to be used for a period of more than one month.

TOWING A TRAILER,
CARAVAN, BOAT ETC...
Only use original PEUGEOT tow bars which have been tested andapproved from the design stage ofyour vehicle. The tow bar must be fitted by a
PEUGEOT dealer. Driving advice Distribution of loads: distribute the
load in the trailer so that the heaviest loads are as close as possible to theaxle and the nose weight is close tothe maximum authorised without,
however, exceeding it. Cooling: towing a trailer on a slope
increases the coolant temperature. As the fan is electronically controlled, its cooling capacity is not dependenton the engine speed.
On the contrary, use a high gear to lower the engine speed, and reduceyour speed. In all cases, pay attention to thecoolant temperature. Note:
in certain cases of particularly
arduous use (towing the maximum load up a steep slope in high tem-peratures), the engine automatically
limits its power. In this case, cutting
off the air conditioning allows theengine power to be recovered, andtherefore the towing speed to be sig-nificantly increased (approximately12mph [20 km/h] more). If the coolant temperature warning light comes on, stop the vehicle and
switch off the engine as soon aspossible.
Tyres: check the tyre pressures of
the towing vehicle and of the trailer, observing the recommended pres-sure. Brakes: towing increases the brak-
ing distance. Drive at a moderate speed, change down early and brake
gradually. Side wind: sensitivity to side wind is
increased. Drive smoothly and at a moderate speed. Lighting Manual adjustmentAdjust your headlamps so as not to dazzle other road users (see sectionon ''Manual adjustment of head-lamps''). Check the electrical sig-
nalling of the trailer. Automatic beam correction For vehicles with Xenon bulbs, this system automatically corrects theheight of the beam, whatever the
load of the vehicle. The driver is thenassured of having optimum lightingand not causing a nuisance to otherroad users. In cases of malfunction, the driver is alerted by means of the warning lighton the instrument panel. In this situation the system adjusts your headlamps to the low position.
