Emergency cut-off (If the remote control is notworking)
Unlock the doors with the key.
Open the door.The alarm is triggered.
Ð Turn on the ignition.
Ð The locking system recognises thekey.
Ð The siren stops and the alarm is disarmed. Selection of the type of protection
To set the alarm to external
protection only. If you want to leave a window partially open, or a pet inside the vehicle, youneed to select external protection only:
Ð Switch off the ignition.
Ð Within the next ten seconds, press
the internal protection button 1until
the warning light comes on conti-
nuously. Get out of the vehicle.
Ð Deadlock the vehicle.
Ð The doors lock.
Ð The direction indicators light for two seconds.
Ð The red light on the switch flashes once a second.
To de-activate external protection only Press the release button on the remo- te control. The doors unlock.The direction indicators flash for two seconds. The red light on the switch goes out. To lock the vehicle without setting the alarm It is the remote control which sets the alarm. Therefore, to lock the vehicle without setting the alarm: use the
key.
To recharge or replace the battery:
Ð Turn on the ignition.
Ð You have 10 seconds after turning
on the ignition to press the internal protection switch 1and hold it down
for two seconds.
Ð The warning light flashes rapidly for three seconds.
Ð You can now disconnect the battery. After reconnecting the battery:
Ð Deadlock, then unlock the vehicle using the remote control.
The alarm will be set after the next deadlocking operation.

Power steering reservoir
Open the reservoir, with the engine
cold. The level should always beabove the MINI mark, close to theMAXI mark.
Windscreen wash reservoir For best quality cleaning and for your
safety, we recommend that you useproducts approved by PEUGEOT(capacity 2.8 litres). Battery
At the start of winter, have your battery
checked by a PEUGEOT dealer. Air filter Regular replacement of the filter ele- ment is essential. If you drive in verydusty conditions, change it twice asoften. Brake pads Brake pad wear depends on the style of driving, in particular for vehicleswhich are used in town, for short jour-neys. It may be necessary to checkthe thickness of the pads evenbetween services. Manual gearbox This does not need an oil change: have the level checked by a PEU-
GEOT dealer according to the manu-facturer's servicing schedule. Autoadaptive automatic gearbox This does not need an oil change: have the level checked by a PEU-

BATTERY
To charge the battery using a battery charger:
Ð Disconnect the battery,
Ð Follow the instructions for use given by the battery charger manufacturer,
Ð Reconnect starting with the negative (Ð) terminal,
Ð Check that the terminals and connectors are clean. If they are covered with sul-
phate (white or greenish deposit), disconnect them and clean them.
To start the vehicle from another battery:
Ð Connect the red cable to the positive (+) terminals of the two batteries,
Ð Connect one end of the green or black cable to the negative (Ð) terminal of the slave battery,
Ð Connect the other end of the green or black cable to an earth point on the bro- ken down vehicle as far as possible from the battery,
Operate the starter, let the engine run.
Wait for the engine to return to idle, then disconnect the cables. ECONOMY MODE FUNCTION After the engine has stopped, with the key in the accessories position, cer-
tain functions (windscreen wiper, elec-tric windows, courtesy lights, audioequipment etc.) can only be used forthirty minutes, to prevent discharging
the battery.
Once the thirty minutes are over, the message
"Economy mode active"
appears on the multifunction displayand the active functions are put on
standby.
A flat battery will prevent the engine from starting.
Ð Never disconnect a terminal when the engine is running.
Ð Never charge a battery without first disconnecting the terminals.
Ð After every reconnection of the battery, switch on the ignition and
wait 1 minute before starting to allow the electronic systems to be ini- tialised. If slight difficulties are experienced after this, please contact
a PEUGEOT dealer.
It is advisable to disconnect the battery if the vehicle is not
to be used for a period of more than one month.
