Before you op erate your vehic le, c arefully read thi s manual. To p rotec t
yourself and extend the servic e life of your vehic l e, follow the instruc tions
in this manual. Failure to ob serve these instruc tio ns may result in serious
injury and d amag e to your vehic le.
This manual is c omp osed of thirteen c hap ters. Eac h c hap ter b eg ins with
a b rief tab le of c ontents, so you c an usually tell at a g lanc e if that c hap -

viTHE SRS AIRBAG.
Always use the child safety locks whenever a child rides in the
rear seat. Serious injury could result if a child accidentallyopened the door and fell out. Refer to the “Door locks ” section in
chapter 2. Always lock the passenger ’s windows using the lock switch
when children are riding in the vehicle. Failure to follow this pro-cedure could result in injury to a child operating the power win-
dow. Refer to the “Power windows ” section in chapter 2.
Never leave unattended children in the vehicle. They could ac-
cidentally injure themselves or others through inadvertent opera-
tion of the vehicle. Also, on hot or sunny days, temperature in a
closed vehicle could quickly become high enough to cause se-vere or possibly fatal injuries to them.
Carefully read the sec tions “Child restraint systems ” , “SRS airb ag ” and
“ Seatb elts” in c hap ter 1 of this owner ’s manual for instruc tions and p re-
c autions c onc erning the c hild restraint system, sea tb elt system and SRS
airb ag system. ENGINE EXHAUST GAS (CARBON MONOXIDE)
WARNING
Never inhale engine exhaust gas. Engine exhaust gas contains
carbon monoxide, a colorless and odorless gas which is danger- ous, or even lethal, if inhaled. Always properly maintain the engine exhaust system to pre-
vent engine exhaust gas from entering the vehicle. Never run the engine in a closed space, such as a garage, ex-
cept for the brief time needed to drive the vehicle in or out of it. Avoid remaining in a parked vehicle for a lengthy time while
the engine is running. If that is unavoidable, then use the ventila-tion fan to force fresh air into the vehicle. Always keep the front ventilator inlet grille free from snow,
leaves or other obstructions to ensure that the ventilation system
always works properly. If at any time you suspect that exhaust fumes are entering the

Locking and unlocking from the outside

To loc k the d oor from the outsid e with the key, tur n the key toward the
rear. To unloc k the d oor, turn the key toward the f ront.

To loc k the d oor from the outsid e without the key, p ress the end of the
loc k lever d own on the d oor and then c lose the d oor .
To loc k the d oor from the outsid e using the p ower d oor loc king switc h,
p ush the switc h forward ( “LOCK ” sid e) and then c lose the d oor. In this
c ase, all c losed d oors and the rear g ate are loc ked at the same time.

The red mark on the loc k lever ap p ears when the d oo r is unloc ked .

g er ’s sid e d oors.
To loc k the d oors, p ush the switc h forward .
To unloc k the d oors, p ush the switc h rearward .
When you c lose the d oors after you set the d oor loc ks, the d oors remain
loc ked . NOTE
Make sure that you do not leave the key inside the vehicle before locking the doors from the outside using power door lockingswitches.

Press to Lock all doors. Press and Hold to activate panic alarm.

Locking the doors
Briefly p ress the “LOCK/ARM ” b utton (for less than two sec ond s) to
loc k all d oors and rear g ate. The horn will sound o ne time.
If any of the d oors or the rear g ate is not fully c losed , the horn will
sound three times to alert you that the d oors (or t he rear g ate) are not
p rop erly c losed . When you c lose the d oor, it will a utomatic ally loc k.
Unlocking the doors
Briefly p ress the “UNLOCK/DISARM ” b utton (for less than two
sec ond s) to unloc k the d river ’s d oor. The horn will sound two times. To
unloc k all d oors and rear g ate, b riefly p ress the “UNLOCK/DISARM ”
b utton a sec ond time. Illuminated entry
The interior (d ome) lig ht will illuminate when the “UNLOCK/DISARM ”
b utton is p ressed . The lig ht will illuminate for ap p roximately 30
sec ond s or until the key is inserted in the ig nitio n switc h or until the
“ LOCK/ARM ” b utton is p ressed . Onc e any of the d oors or the re ar
g ate is op ened , this func tion will b e c anc eled . The interior lig ht must
b e set to the middle position in ord er for this func tion to op erate.
Sounding a panic alarm
To ac tivate the alarm, keep the “LOCK/ARM ” b utton p ressed for more
than two seconds .
To d eac tivate it, p ress the “LOCK/ARM ” b utton or “UNLOCK/DISARM ”
b utton. Unless a b utton on the remote is p ressed , t he alarm will b e
d eac tivated after ap p roximately 30 sec ond s.
