Repriming the circuit
To reprime after running out of diesel : - Fill the tank with at least five litres of diesel, with the vehicle parked on as level a surface as possible. - Operate the manual repriming pump until resistance is felt.
- Operate the starter, pressing the accelerator lightly until the engine starts. If the engine fails to start at the first attempt, wait for 15 seconds and then try again. If it fails to start after several attempts, repeat the operation from the beginning. With the engine at idle, press the accelerator lightly to bleed the system.

- Remove the dipstick.
- Unscrew bolt Band remove it.
- Remove the undertray.
- Reprime the circuit.
- Refit the undertray (engine not running).

Brake fluid reservoir
Check the level regularly. If the warning light comes on when driving, stop immediately and contact an
approved dealer.
84V- 2LEVELS AND CHECKS*
As the synthetic brake fluid has anti-corrosion properties and maintains the correct braking characteristics irrespective of conditions use only the brake fluid recommended by the manufacturer (to be replaced every two years). These instructions, which must be followed, are given in the Maintenance Guide for your vehicle.Quality :see ÒAPPROVED RECOMMENDED LUBRICANTS Ó.
* According to specification.

¥ S : Steering lock
To release the steering lock, turn the steering wheel slightly, without forcing it, at the
same time as turning the key.
¥ A : Accessories Allows operation of some electrical accessories (radio, electric windows, map rea-
ders, etc.). The battery charge light comes on. ¥ M : Ignition
The following warning lamps * should illuminate : ABS, preheating (Diesel), battery
charge, STOP, oil pressure, handbrake and brake fluid level, engine autodiagnosis, airbags, door closing. If any of these warning lamps do not illuminate, there is a malfunction. ¥ D : Starter Release the key as soon as the engine has started. Never operate the key with the
engine running (see ÒSTARTING THE ENGINEÓ).

WARNING
Never remove the ignition key before the vehicle has come to a complete stop. Never attempt to move the
vehicle without the engine running. If the engine is not running, the vehicleÕs steering and braking systemswill not be power-assisted (there is a risk of the steering lock engaging and the safety features not opera-ting). After parking, remove the ignition key and turn the steering wheel until the steering column locking peg engages.

Check that the gear lever is in neutral.
PETROL ENGINEStarting with the engine cold. Do not press the accelerator pedal. Operate the starter until the engine starts (not more than ten seconds). In very low temperatures, press the clutch pedal when operating the starter to ease starting of the engine. Release
the clutch pedal slowly.
DIESEL ENGINEStarting with engine cold
Turn the ignition key to position M(ignition, preheater) and wait until the preheater warning light goes out. Then
operate the starter until the engine starts. In very low temperatures, press the clutch pedal when operating the starter to ease starting of the engine. Release
the clutch pedal slowly. Note : Do not press the accelerator pedal during starting.
Starting with engine hot
Operate the starter. If the engine fails to start at the first attempt, repeat using the preheater. In all cases, if the engine stops or fails to start at the first attempt, wait a few seconds before operating the starter again. Note : The preheater warning lamp does not come on when the engine is hot.
Recommendation : It is not necessary to warm up the engine before starting off. Wait for the warning lamp to go out and then drive
off slowly, accelerating gently until the engine warms up.

CAUTION
Do not run the engine in an enclosed or poorly ventilated space.

ABS system*
This system increases safety by preventing the wheels from locking in the event of harsh braking or in conditions of poor grip. It enables the driver to maintain control of the steering.
The operating capacity of all the essential electrical elements of the ABS system is controlled by an electronic moni-
toring system both before and during driving. The ABS light comes on when the ignition is switched on, and should
go out after approximately two seconds. If the light does not go out, this indicates that the ABS is disconnected due
to a fault. Likewise, if the light comes on while driving, this indicates that the ABS is not operating. In both cases,
the normal braking system remains effective, as on a vehicle without ABS. However, to avoid the occurrence of other
faults with unknown consequences, the ABS should be inspected as soon as possible by an approved dealer.
It is still necessary to drive carefully on slippery surfaces (loose stones, snow, ice, etc.)..
67III-3BRAKES
Handbrake
The handbrake is operated by pulling the lever upwards. The greater the slope you are on, the greater the force that should be applied in pulling the
lever.
To ease the action of the handbrake lever, it is recommended that you press the brake pedal at the same time. As a precaution, 1st gear should be engaged in all cases. On steep slopes, you should also turn the wheels towards the kerb.
To release the handbrake, pressthe button while pulling the lever up, then
lower the lever to the fully down position. The warning light comes on if the handbrake is on or not fully released, with the ignition on.

Interior air recirculation
To increase the air conditioning efficiency in very hot weather or to isolate the passenger compartment from unpleasant exterior odours, use the inter-ior air recirculation position and adjust the speed of the blower 1by turning
it to the left.
This setting should be cancelled assoon as possible to maintain a supplyof fresh air inside the vehicle.
However, if the temperature inside the vehicle becomes very high after along stop, open the windows for a fewminutes to ventilate the vehicle, thenclose them before using the air condi-tioning system.
72IV-2AIR CONDITIONING *
Air conditioning* The air conditioning system will only operate with the engine running.
To switch on, press the switch on the fascia. The light is on = the system is working.
To be fully effective, the system should only be used with the windows closed. For optimum comfort, use control 2to regulate the air conditioning
temperature.
