TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS — BASIC INSPECTION
Cruise Test — Part 3
1. CHECK SHIFT DOWN (D4 TO D3 )
1. Confirm overdrive control switch is in “ON” position.
2. Confirm selector lever is in “D” position.
3. Accelerate vehicle using half-throttle to D
4 .
4. Release accelerator pedal.
5. Set overdrive control switch to “OFF” position while driving in D
4
.
6. Does A/T shift from D
4 to D3 (O/D OFF)?
Read gear position and vehicle speed.
Ye s o r N o
Yes >> GO TO 2.
No >>
●Mark the box on the DIAGNOSTIC WORKSHEET.
●GO TO AT-339, "A/T Does Not Shift: D4→ D3 , When Overdrive Control Switch “ON”→“OFF”"

●Continue ROAD TEST.

A/T Does Not Shift: D
3→ D4ECS004VC
SYMPTOM:
●A/T does not shift from D3 to D4 at the specified speed.
●A/T must be warm before D3 to D4 shift will occur.
1. CHECK SYMPTOM
Are Vehicle Does Not Creep Forward In “D”, “2” Or “1” Position and Vehicle Cannot Be Started From D
1 OK?

Yes >> GO TO 2.
No >> Go to AT- 3 2 1 , "
Vehicle Does Not Creep Forward In “D”,“2” Or “1” Position" .
2. CHECK SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS
With CONSULT-II
Does self-diagnosis, after cruise test, show damage to any of the following circuits?
●PNP switch
●Overdrive control switch
●A/T fluid temperature sensor
●Vehicle speed sensor·A/T (revolution sensor)
●Shift solenoid valve A or B
●Vehicle speed sensor·MTR

No >> GO TO 3.
3. CHECK ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR
Check accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor. Refer to AT- 3 6 2 ,
"ACCELE RATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR" —Except for
Euro-OBD
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 4
NG >> Repair or replace accelerator pedal position (APP) sen-
sor.

A/T Does Not Perform Lock-up

A/T does not perform lock-up at the specified speed.
1. CHECK SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS
Does self-diagnosis show damage to A/T fluid temperature sensor, vehicle speed sensor·A/T (revolution sen-
sor), engine speed signal or torque converter clutch solenoid valve circuit after cruise test?

Yes >> Check damaged circuit. Refer to AT- 3 8 1 , "TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID VALVE"
,AT- 3 8 6 , "BATT/FLUID TEMP SEN (A/T FLUID TEMP SENSOR CIRCUIT AND TCM POWER
SOURCE)" , AT- 3 5 3 , "VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR·A/T (REVOLUTION SENSOR)" , AT- 3 9 2 ,
"ENGINE SPEED SIGNAL" .— Except for Euro-OBD
No >> GO TO 2.
2. CHECK ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR
Check accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor. Refer to AT- 3 6 2 ,
"ACCELE RATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR" (Except for
Euro-OBD).
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 3.
NG >> Repair or replace accelerator pedal position (APP) sen-
sor.
3. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM
1. Remove control valve. Refer to AT- 4 1 3 , "
Installation" .
2. Check the following items:
–Torque converter clutch control valve
–Torque converter relief valve
–Pilot valve
–Pilot filter
3. Disassemble A/T.
4. Check torque converter.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 4.
NG >> Repair or replace damaged parts.
4. CHECK SYMPTOM
Check again.
OK or NG
OK >>INSPECTION END
NG >> 1. Perform TCM input/output signal inspection.
2. If NG, recheck TCM pin terminals for damage or loose connection with harness connector.

SYMPTOM:
A/T does not hold lock-up condition for more than 30 seconds.
1.CHECK DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS
Does self-diagnosis show damage to engine speed signal circuit
after cruise test?

Yes >> Check engine speed signal circuit. Refer to AT- 3 9 2 ,
"ENGINE SPEED SIGNAL" (Except for Euro-OBD).
No >> GO TO 2.
2.CHECK A/T FLUID CONDITION
1. Remove oil pan.
2. Check A/T fluid condition.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 3.
NG >> GO TO 5.
3.DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM
1. Remove control valve assembly. Refer to AT- 4 1 3 , "
Installation" .
2. Check the following items:
–Torque converter clutch control valve
–Pilot valve
–Pilot filter
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 4.
NG >> Repair or replace damaged parts.
4.CHECK SYMPTOM
Check again.
OK or NG
OK >>INSPECTION END
NG >> 1. Perform TCM input/output signal inspection.
2. If NG, recheck TCM pin terminals for damage or loose connection with harness connector.

Engine Speed Does Not Return To Idle (Light Braking D

SYMPTOM:
●Engine speed does not smoothly return to idle when A/T shifts from D4 to D3 .
●Vehicle does not decelerate by engine brake when turning overdrive control switch OFF.
●Vehicle does not decelerate by engine brake when shifting A/T from “D” to “2” position.
1. CHECK SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS
Does self-diagnosis show damage to overrun clutch solenoid valve
circuit after cruise test?

Yes >> Check overrun clutch solenoid valve circuit. Refer to AT-
377, "OVERRUN CLUTCH SOLENOID VALVE"
(Except for Euro-OBD).
No >> GO TO 2.
2. CHECK ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR
Check accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor. Refer to AT- 3 6 2 ,
"ACCELE RATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR" —Except for
Euro-OBD.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 3.
NG >> Repair or replace accelerator pedal position (APP) sen-
sor.
3. CHECK A/T FLUID CONDITION
1. Remove oil pan.
2. Check A/T fluid condition.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 4.
NG >> GO TO 6.
