Instrument Panel Brightness Control
You can brighten or dim the instrument panel and cluster
lights by turning the exterior lamp knob. Turn the knob
clockwise to increase the brightness of the instrument
panel and cluster, and counterclockwise to decrease the
brightness. Your parking lamps must be on for this
feature to work.
Courtesy Lamps
When any door is opened, several lamps come on.
These lamps are courtesy lamps. They make it easy for
you to enter and leave your vehicle. You can also turn
these lamps on by turning the exterior lamp knob all the
way clockwise.
Some of the lamps have switches so you can turn them
on, even when the doors are closed. These lamps are
reading lamps.
Illuminated Entry (If Equipped)
Your courtesy lamps will come on and stay on for a set
time whenever you press UNLOCK on the remote
keyless entry transmitter (if equipped).
If you open a door, the lamps will stay on while it's open
and then turn off automatically about 25 seconds after
you close it. If you press UNLOCK and don't open a
door, the lamps will turn off after about 40 seconds.
Illuminated entry includes a feature called theater
dimming. With theater dimming, the lamps don't just
turn off at the end of the delay time. Instead, they slowly
dim after the delay time until they go out. The delay
time is canceled if you turn the ignition key to ON or
press the power door lock switch. The lamps will dim
right away.
When the ignition is on, illuminated entry is inactive,
which means the courtesy lamps won't come on unless
a door is opened.

2-56 Delayed Entry Lighting
Delayed entry lighting illuminates the interior for a
period of time after all the doors have been closed.
The ignition must be off for delayed entry lighting to
work. Immediately after all the doors have been closed,
the delayed entry lighting feature will continue to work
until one of the following occurs:
The ignition is in ON,
the doors are locked or
an illumination period of 25 seconds has elapsed.
If during the illumination period a door is opened,
the timed illumination period will be canceled and the
interior lamps will remain on because a door is open.
Delayed Exit Lighting
This feature illuminates the interior for a period
of time after the key is removed from the ignition.
The ignition must be off for delayed exit lighting to
work. When the key is removed, interior illumination
will activate and remain on until one of the
following occurs:
The ignition is in ON,
the power door locks are activated or
an illumination period of 25 seconds has elapsed. If during the illumination period a door is opened, the
timed illumination period will be canceled and the
interior lamps will remain on because a door is open.
Parade Mode
The instrument panel has an added feature called parade
mode. This feature prohibits the dimming of your
instrument panel displays during the daylight while
the headlamps are on so that you'll still be able to see
the displays.
Rearview Mirror Reading Lamps
Use the switch next to each lamp to turn them on
and off.
Reading Lamps (If Equipped)
The reading lamps are located on the assist handles in
the headliner. These lamps and the interior courtesy
lamps come on when any door is opened. Press the lens
to turn them on. Press it again to turn them off.
Dome Lamp
The dome lamp will come on when you open a door.
You can also turn this lamp on by turning the headlamp
knob clockwise as far as it will go.

top of your center back seat cushion. You will then have
access to the dual cupholders.
Trunk Convenience Net (If Equipped)
Your vehicle may have a convenience net. You'll see it
on the back wall of the trunk.
Put small loads, like grocery bags, behind or inside the
net. It can help keep them from falling over during sharp
turns or quick starts and stops.
The net isn't for larger, heavier loads. Store those in the
trunk as far forward as you can.
You can unhook the net so that it will lie flat when
you're not using it.

on the console. To remove the instrument panel ashtray,
open it, push down on the locking tab and pull out
the ashtray.

the ashtray by pushing on the door's right side.

in the middle of the ashtray and lift it out.

NOTICE:
Don't hold a cigarette lighter in with your hand
while it is heating. If you do, it won't be able to

ready. That can make it overheat, damaging the
lighter and the heating element.

can also move them from side to side. The visors also
have extenders that you can pull out for added coverage.

come on when you open the cover.

Brake System Warning Light
Your vehicle's hydraulic brake system is divided into
two parts. If one part isn't working, the other part can
still work and stop you. For good braking, though, you
need both parts working well.
If the warning light comes on, there is a brake problem.
The LOW BRAKE FLUID message in the message
center will also appear when there is a brake problem.
See ªLow Brake Fluid Messageº in the Index.
Have your brake system inspected right away.
United States Canada
This light should come on briefly when you turn the
ignition key to ON. If it doesn't come on then,
have it fixed so it will be ready to warn you if there's
a problem. If the light comes on while you are driving, pull off the
road and stop carefully. You may notice that the pedal is
harder to push. Or, the pedal may go closer to the floor.
It may take longer to stop. If the light is still on, have
the vehicle towed for service. See ªAnti
-Lock Brake
System Warning Lightº and ªTowing Your Vehicleº
in the Index.
CAUTION:
Your brake system may not be working properly
if the brake system warning light is on. Driving
with the brake system warning light on can lead
to an accident. If the light is still on after you've
pulled off the road and stopped carefully, have
the vehicle towed for service.
When the ignition is on, the brake system warning light
will also come on when you set your parking brake.
The light will stay on if your parking brake doesn't
release fully. If it stays on after your parking brake is
fully released, it means you have a brake problem.

2-82 Anti-Lock Brake System Warning Light
(If Equipped)
The anti-lock brake
system warning light
should come on for a
few seconds when
you turn the ignition
key to ON.
If the anti
-lock brake system warning light stays on longer
than normal after you've started your engine, turn the
ignition off. Or, if the light comes on and stays on when
you're driving, stop as soon as possible and turn the
ignition off. Then start the engine again to reset the
system. If the light still stays on, or comes on again while
you're driving, the anti
-lock brake system needs service
and you don't have anti
-lock brakes. The brake pedal may
be harder to push, or it may go to the floor. It may take
longer to stop. Adjust your driving accordingly.
The anti
-lock brake system warning light should come
on briefly when you turn the ignition key to ON. If the
light doesn't come on then, have it fixed so it will be
ready to warn you if there is a problem.

sound and the warning light will come on and stay on.
To turn the system back on, press the button again.
The warning light should go off. See ªTraction Control

related to traction control, the traction control system
will turn off and the warning light will come on.
If your brakes begin to overheat, the traction control
system will turn off and the warning light will come
on until your brakes cool down.
If the traction control system warning light comes on
and stays on for an extended period of time when the
system is turned on, your vehicle needs service.
