ENGINE IMMOBILISER
This locks the engine control sys- tem and therefore prevents startingof the vehicle by anyone who does
not have the key. Operation Each key has a special code. When the ignition is switched on the key code is recognised by theengine immobiliser system andstarting is possible. The engine immobiliser automati- cally locks the engine control sys-tem a few moments after the igni-
tion has been switched off. Confidential card This shows the identification code which is required if any work is car-ried out on the system by your
PEUGEOT dealer. This code is hid-den by a film which must not beremoved unless required. Keep your card in a safe place, never in your vehicle.When buying a second- hand car:
- Make sure that you are giventhe confidential card.
- It is advisable to have the keycodes memorised by yourPEUGEOT dealer in order toensure that the keys in yourpossession are the only oneswhich can start the vehicle.57

FRONT AND SIDE AIRBAGS
Disarming the passenger airbag. Insert the ignition key in switch 1
and turn it:
Ðto t he ÇONÈ position, the pas-
senger airbag is armed,
Ð to the Ç OFFÈ position, the pas-
senger airbag is not armed.
Operational Check This is by means of the warning light on the instrument panel. If the passenger airbag is armed or if your vehicle is not fitted with apassenger airbag, the warning lightcomes on for 6 seconds when theignition is switched on. If the passenger airbag is notarmed, the warning light remainson. Always contact your PEUGEOT dealer if the warning light flashes. Passenger airbag precautionsFor a vehicle fitted with a disarming switch:
-disarm the air-bag if you ins-tall a rear-wards-facingchild seat,
-arm the airbag
when an adultis in the seat.
For a vehicle not fitted with a disar-ming switch: -do not installrear-wards-facing childseats on thefront passen-ger seat.
Never place your feet or any objecton the fascia.

Instrument panel display When the ignition is switched on, this display shows in turn, the following infor- mation: - digital clock,
- service indicator,
- oil level indicator,*- total distance. Engine oil level When the ignition is switched on, engine not running, the service indicator is dis- played for a few seconds, then the engine oil level is indicated for approximate-ly 10 seconds.Maximum Minimum Check the level with the dipstick and top it up. The Þgure shown is only correct if the vehicle has been on stable, level ground, withthe engine stopped, for 10 minutes. No oil When the LEDs ßash, it is essential to top up the oil to the correct level, otherwise the engine will be damaged.

SERVICE INDICATOR This is a reminder of when the next service is due in accordance with the
manufacturerÕs maintenance sche-dule. Operation When the ignition is switched on the display shows the distance remai-ning (rounded Þgures) before thenext service is due. Example:4800 miles remain before
the next service is due. For Þve seconds after the ignition is switchedon, the display shows: 5 seconds after switching on the igni- tion the display resumes normal ope-ration and shows the total and tripdistances. When the distance remainingbefore the next service is lessthan 500 miles. Example:
450 miles remain before
the next service is due. For Þve seconds after the ignition is switched on, the display shows: 5 seconds after switching on the igni- tion the display resumes normal ope-ration. This indicates that a serviceshould be carried out shortly: When a service is overdue. For Þve seconds after the ignition is switched on, the service symbol andthe excess distance ßash. Example:
the service is overdue by
300 km The vehicle should be servi- ced very soon. For 5 seconds after the ignition is switched on the display shows: 5 seconds after switching on the igni- tion the display resumes normal ope-ration.
