This should be taken simply for an example. It is necessary to set the carburetor while checking
the operating conditions of the engine.

lDas Sekundärübersetzungsverhältnis sollte
im allgemeinen reduziert werden, wenn die
Rennstrecke längere Geraden aufweist, und
erhöht werden, wenn die Strekke zahlreiche
Kurven aufweist. Da aber in der Praxis das
optimale Verhältnis von anderen Faktoren
wie dem Zustand der Strecke beeinflußt
wird, sollte die Strecke am Renntag abfahren
werden, um die richtige Wahl zu treffen.
lIn der Praxis ist es schwierig, eine Einstel-
lung zu finden, die für die ganze Strecke op-
timal ist, und man ist gezwungen, Kompro-
misse einzugehen. Die Einstellung sollte
deshalb dem Teil der Strecke angepaßt wer-
den, der für das Rennen am wichtigsten ist.
Fahren Sie die Strecke ab und notieren Sie
die Rundenzeiten, um die ausgewogenste
Einstellung zu bestimmen; legen Sie danach
das Sekundärübersetzungsverhältnis fest.
lWenn eine Strecke eine lange Gerade auf-
weist, wo die Maschine mit Höchstgeschwin-
digkeit gefahren werden kann, sollte die Ma-
schine grundsätzlich so abgestimmt werden,
daß sie zum Ende der Gerade hin die Maxi-
maldrehzahl entwikkeln kann, ohne daß der
Motor überdreht.
HINWEIS:
Jeder Fahrer hat seine eigene Fahrtechnik,
und die Leistung einzelner Maschinen kann
auch bei Baugleichheit variieren. Übernehmen
Sie darum nicht einfach die Einstellungen an-
derer Fahrer, sondern finden Sie Ihre eigene
optimale Einstellung entsprechend Ihrer Fahr-

lIl est généralement admis que le rapport de
démultiplication de la transmission secondaire
doit être réduit lors de la conduite prolongée sur
ligne droite et qu’il convient de l’augmenter s’il y
a de nombreux tournants. La vitesse dépendra des
conditions du terrain et il faut veiller à effectuer
des tours du circuit le jour de la course afin de
régler la machine du mieux possible.
lEn pratique, il est très difficile d’effectuer des
réglages convenant parfaitement à un terrain
donné et il faudra en sacrifier quelques-uns. Il
convient de régler la machine en fonction de la
partie la plus importante du circuit. Effectuer des
essais et noter les temps pour les différentes par-
ties du circuit, calculer la moyenne et déterminer
le taux de réduction secondaire.
lSi le parcours comprend de grandes lignes droi-
tes, régler la machine de sorte à ce qu’elle soit au
maximum de ses performances vers la fin des
lignes droites, tout en évitant que la vitesse de
rotation du moteur soit excessive.
N.B.:
Chaque motocycliste a sa propre technique de con-
duite et les performances varient aussi d’une
machine à l’autre. Eviter donc de copier les régla-
ges d’une autre machine et effectuer ses propres

Front fork setting
The front fork setting should be made depend-
ing on the rider’s feeling of an actual run and
the circuit conditions.
The front fork setting includes the following
three factors:
1. Setting of air spring characteristics
lChange the fork oil level.
2. Setting of spring preload
lChange the spring.
lInstall the adjustment washer.
3. Setting of damping force
lChange the compression damping.
lChange the rebound damping.
The spring acts on the load and the
damping force acts on the cushion
travel speed.

Damping characteristic near the final stroke
can be changed by changing the fork oil
amount.
CAUTION:
Adjust the oil level in 5 mm (0.2 in) incre-
ments or decrements. Too low oil level
causes the front fork to produce a noise at
full rebound or the rider to feel some pres-
sure on his hands or body. Alternatively,
too high oil level will develop unexpectedly
early oil lock with the consequent shorter
front fork travel and deteriorated perfor-
mance an characteristics. Therefore, adjust
the front fork within the specified range.
