Using your Owner’s manual
Before you op erate your vehic le, c arefully read thi s manual. To p rotec t
yourself and extend the servic e life of your vehic l e, follow the instruc tions
in this manual. Failure to ob serve these instruc tio ns may result in serious
injury and d amag e to your vehic le.
This manual is c omp osed of thirteen c hap ters. Eac h c hap ter b eg ins with
a b rief tab le of c ontents, so you c an usually tell at a g lanc e if that c hap -
ter c ontains the information you want. Chapter 1: Doors and Locks

The antenna and the sp ec ial wrenc h for mounting /rem oving the
antenna is stored in the lug g ag e floor storag e tray at the front sid e.
1. Remove the p lug from the antenna b ase.
2. Remove the c ap at the thread ed p ortion of the ant enna.
3. Install the antenna to the antenna b ase while tur ning the antenna
c loc kwise b y hand .

4. Tig hten the antenna using the sp ec ial wrenc h. Do
not use an ord i-
nary wrenc h that is long er than sp ec ial wrenc h.
5. To remove the antenna, follow the installation se q uenc e in reverse.
Be c areful not to lose the sp ec ial tool.
Make sure that the antenna is fully tig htened b efor e op erating your
vehic le.

Power switch and volume control (ON/VOL)

Volume control
Power ON/OFF When the volume level is set at the level 18:
The knob is used for b oth p ower (on/off) and volume
c ontrol. The rad io is
turned on and off b y p ushing the knob and the volum e is c ontrolled b y
turning the knob .
The volume c ontrol has total of 34 volume levels (V : 0 for minimum, V: 33
for maximum). Tone and balance control (TONE/BAL)
The volume c ontrol knob normally func tion as volume c ontrol. This knob
b ec omes a c ontrol for Bass, Treb le, Fad er or Balanc e when you selec t
the ap p rop riate tone and b alanc e c ontrol mod e.
The “T/B ” (Tone and b alanc e) b utton is used for selec ting th e following
c ontrol mod es: –Bass (low note) c ontrol
– Treb le (hig h note) c ontrol
– Fad er c ontrol (Volume b alanc e c ontrol b etween front and rear
sp eakers)
– Balanc e c ontrol (Volume b alanc e c ontrol b etween rig ht and left
sp eakers)

Selec t the Treb le c ontrol mod e b y p ressing the “T/B ” b utton. In the
treb le c ontrol mod e, the d isp lay shows the ind ic ati on as shown.
The treb le c ontrol has total of 13 volume levels (T R: –6 for minimum, 0
for mid d le, TR: + 6 for maximum). Choose d esired tre b le volume level
b y turning the volume c ontrol knob . The c ontrol fun c tion returns to vol-
ume c ontrol mod e after ab out 5 sec ond s. Fader control

fad er c ontrol mod e, the d isp lay shows the ind ic atio n as shown.
The fad er c ontrol has total of 25 setting s (F: 12 f or front maximum and
rear minimum, 0 for neutral, R: 12 for front minimu m and rear maxi-
mum). Choose d esired setting b y turning the volume c ontrol knob . The
c ontrol func tion returns to volume c ontrol mod e aft er ab out 5 sec ond s.

Automatic tuning (SCN)
Press the “SCN ” b utton to c hang e the rad io to the SCAN mod e. In th is
mod e, the rad io sc ans throug h the rad io b and until a station is found .
The rad io will stop at the station for five sec ond s while d isp laying the fre-
q uenc y, after whic h sc anning will c ontinue until th e entire b and has b een
sc anned from the low end to the hig h end .
Press the “SCN ” b utton ag ain to c anc el the SCAN mod e and to stop o n
any d isp layed freq uenc y.
When the “SCN ” b utton is p ressed for automatic tuning , stations a re
sc anned in the d irec tion of low freq uenc ies to hig h freq uenc ies only.
Automatic tuning may not func tion p rop erly if the s tation rec ep tion is
weakened b y d istanc e from the station or p roximity to tall b uild ing s and
hills. Selecting preset stations
Presetting a station with a p reset b utton allows yo u to selec t that station
in a sing le op eration. Up to six AM and FM stations eac h may b e p reset.
How to preset stations
1. Press the FM/AM selec tion switc h to selec t either FM or AM rec ep tion.
2. Press the “SCN ” b utton or tune the rad io manually until the d esire d
station freq uenc y is d isp layed .
3. Press one of the p reset b uttons for at least two seconds to store the
freq uenc y. The freq uenc y of the station will flash onc e on the d isp lay at
this time. If the b utton is p ressed for less than t wo sec ond s, the p rec ed -
ing selec tion will remain in memory. NOTE
If the connection between the radio and battery is broken for any reason such as vehicle maintenance or radio removal, all stationsstored in the preset buttons are cleared. If this occurs, it is neces-sary to reset the preset buttons.

Program switching buttons (PROG)

p ressed at the same time d uring p layb ac k, the tap e travel ind ic ators will
switc h and the p layer will b eg in p laying b ac k the o p p osite sid e of the
tap e. The same mec hanism is automatic ally ac tivated when the end of
the tap e is reac hed . This allows the op p osite sid e of the tap e to p lay,
p rovid ing c ontinuous p layb ac k. Fast-forward button
To fast-forward the tap e, p ress the “
” or “” b utton in the same
d irec tion to the tap e travel ind ic ator. To stop fas t-forward ing , lig htly p ress
the op p osite sid e of the “
” or “” b utton.
Rewind button
To rewind the tap e, p ress the “
” or “” b utton in the op p osite
d irec tion to the tap e travel ind ic ator. To stop rew ind ing , lig htly p ress the
op p osite sid e of the “
” or “” b utton.
Stop and eject button (

When “
” b utton is p ressed , p lay b ac k stop s and the c assett e tap e is
ejec ted .
Before the ig nition switc h turn to the “OFF ” p osition, ejec t the tap e from
the p layer. Always make c ertain that you remove the c assette tap e.
Tape program sensor button (TPS)
Press “TPS ” b utton d uring p layb ac k to return to the b eg inning of the c ur-
rent selec tion or to skip to the b eg inning of the n ext selec tion. To use this
func tion, p ress the “TPS ” b utton to turn on the “TPS ” ind ic ator. If the fast-
forward b utton is then p ressed , the p layer ad vanc es the tap e to the b e-
g inning of the next selec tion and starts p laying it . If the rewind b utton is
p ressed instead , the p layer rewind s the tap e to the b eg inning of the c ur-
rent selec tion and starts rep laying it. The “TPS ” func tion may not op erate
p rop erly und er the following c ond itions:
When the rec ord ing level is low.
When there are long p auses in the mid d le of a selec tion.
