SYSTEM TESTS
ALL WINDOWS INOPERATIVE
Caravan, Town & Country, & Voyager
1) Check Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) for power
window system. See TROUBLE SHOOTING. Replace PTC as necessary. If PTC
is okay, go to next step.
2) Remove driver's power window switch. See POWER WINDOW
SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition on. Using test
light, connect ground lead to harness connector terminal No. 13 (Black

Wire). Check for voltage by touching test light probe to harness
connector terminals No. 9 (Tan/Dark Green Wire) and No. 11 (Tan Wire)\
.
3) If test light illuminates, ground circuit and circuit
between battery and switch are okay. If test light does not
illuminate, check power and ground circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS.
Dakota & Ram Pickup
1) Check circuit breaker for power window system. See TROUBLE
SHOOTING. Replace circuit breaker as necessary. If circuit breaker is
okay, go to next step.
2) Remove driver's front power window switch. See POWER
WINDOW SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check for continuity
between ground and terminal No. 3 at driver power window switch wiring
harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS. If continuity exists, go to
next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black/Light
Green wire (Ram Pickup) or Black wire (Dakota) between driver power
window switch connector and ground.
3) Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and
terminal No. 5 (Tan wire) at driver's power window switch wiring
harness connector. If battery voltage is present, check driver power
window switch. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS. If
battery voltage is not present, repair open Tan wire between driver
power window switch connector and ignition switch. See WIRING
DIAGRAMS.
Durango
1) Check circuit breaker for power window system. See TROUBLE
SHOOTING. Replace circuit breaker as necessary. If circuit breaker is
okay, go to next step.
2) Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove driver's front
power window switch. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH under REMOVAL &
INSTALLATION.
3) Check for continuity between ground and terminal No. 5
(Black wire) at driver's power window switch wiring harness connector.\
See WIRING DIAGRAMS. If continuity exists, go to next step. If
continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire between driver's
power window switch connector and ground.
4) Reconnect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on.
Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 4 (Tan wire) at
driver's power window switch wiring harness connector. If battery
voltage is present, check driver's power window switch. See POWER
WINDOW SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS. If battery voltage is not
present, repair open Tan wire between driver power window switch
connector and ignition switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS.
Ram Van & Ram Wagon
1) Check circuit breaker for power window system. See TROUBLE
SHOOTING. Replace circuit breaker as necessary. If circuit breaker is
okay, go to next step.
2) Remove driver's front power window switch. See POWER
WINDOW SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check for continuity
between ground and driver power window switch wiring harness connector
terminal No. 2 (Black wire). If continuity exists, go to next step. If\
continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire between driver
power window switch connector and ground.
3) Check for battery voltage at driver's power window switch
harness connector terminal No. 5. If battery voltage exists, check
window switch. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS. If
battery voltage does not exist, repair open Tan wire.
ONE WINDOW INOPERATIVE
NOTE: Window glass must be free to slide up and down for power

window motor to function properly. If glass is not free to
move up and down, motor will overload and trip the circuit
breaker.
Dakota & Ram Pickup
1) Place window glass halfway between up and down positions.
Verify glass can be moved slightly from side to side, front to rear,
and up and down. If glass does not move freely, check window glass,
tracks and regulator for sticking, binding or improper adjustment.
Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If glass moves
freely, go to next step.
2) Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove power window
switch from door with inoperative window. Disconnect power window
switch connector. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on.
Check for battery voltage at power window switch harness connector
terminal No. 5 (driver's window) or terminal No. 11 (passenger's
window). If battery voltage does not exist, repair open Tan wire
between junction block and power window switch. If battery voltage
exists, go to next step (inoperative passenger's window) or go step 4)\
(inoperative driver's window).
3) Disconnect negative battery cable. Check for continuity
between ground and passenger window switch harness connector terminals
No. 1 (Brown/White wire) and 2 (Violet/White wire). If continuity
exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open
circuit in wiring harness between window switches.
4) Check power window switch. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH under
COMPONENT TESTS. Replace faulty power window switch as necessary. If
switch is okay, go to next step.
5) Check for continuity between window switch wiring
connector terminals and corresponding window motor wire connector
terminals of inoperative power window. If continuity exists in all
circuits, power window switch and switch circuits are okay. Check
power window motor. See POWER WINDOW MOTOR under COMPONENT TESTS. If
continuity does not exist in one or more circuits, repair open
circuit(s) as necessary. Recheck system operation.
Durango
1) Place window glass halfway between up and down positions.
Verify glass can be moved slightly from side to side, front to rear,
and up and down. If glass does not move freely, check window glass,
tracks and regulator for sticking, binding or improper adjustment.
Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If glass moves
freely, and is not driver's window, go to next step. If driver's
window is inoperative, check power window motor. See POWER WINDOW
MOTOR under COMPONENT TESTS. If Auto Down feature is the only problem,
replace driver's switch. If switch LED is the only problem, replace
unlit switch.
2) Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove power window
switch from door with inoperative window. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect negative battery cable. Turn
ignition on. Check for battery voltage at power window switch harness
connector Yellow wire. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open
circuit to master window switch. If battery voltage exists, go to next
step.
3) Test power window switch continuity. See POWER WINDOW
SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS. Replace faulty switch as necessary. If
switch is okay, go to next step.
4) Check for continuity in each circuit between master window
switch and switch for inoperative window. See WIRING DIAGRAMS. If
continuity does not exist in any circuit, repair open circuit as
necessary. If continuity exists in all circuits, test power window
motor. See POWER WINDOW MOTOR under COMPONENT TESTS.

Ram Van & Ram Wagon
1) Place window glass halfway between up and down positions.
Verify glass can be moved slightly from side to side, front to rear,
and up and down. If glass does not move freely, check window glass,
tracks and regulator for sticking or binding. Repair as necessary and
recheck system operation. If glass moves freely, go to next step.
2) Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect and remove
power window switch in door with inoperative window. See POWER WINDOW
SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect negative battery cable.
Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between passenger power window
switch wiring harness connector terminal (Tan wire) or driver power
window switch wiring harness connector terminal (Tan wire) and ground.\
See WIRING DIAGRAMS. If battery voltage is not present, repair open
Tan wire as necessary. If battery voltage exists, and inoperative
window is on driver side, go to step 4). If battery voltage exists,
and inoperative window is on passenger side, go to next step.
NOTE: Passenger's power window switch is grounded through driver's
power window switch.
3) Disconnect negative battery cable. Check continuity
between ground and passenger's power window switch harness connector
terminals No. 2 (Brown/White wire) and No. 4 (Violet/White wire). Se\
e
WIRING DIAGRAMS. If continuity exists on both circuits, go to step 5).
If continuity does not exist on either or both circuits, repair open
circuit.
4) Check power window switch. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH under
COMPONENT TESTS. Replace faulty power window switch as necessary. If
switch is okay, go to next step.
5) Using an ohmmeter, check continuity of each circuit
between inoperative power window switch wiring harness connector and
corresponding power window motor wiring harness connector terminal.
See WIRING DIAGRAMS. If continuity does not exist in one or more
circuits, repair open circuit(s) as necessary. Recheck system
operation. If continuity exists in all circuits, power window switch
and switch circuits are okay. Check power window motor. See POWER
WINDOW MOTOR under COMPONENT TESTS.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory
systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist
until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See
COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION
before disconnecting battery.
DOOR TRIM PANEL
Removal & Installation (Caravan, Town & Country, & Voyager)
1) Using a trim stick, pry courtesy light from door trim.
Disconnect courtesy light connector. Remove door assist handle (if
equipped). Remove door pull cup (if equipped). Remove screws attachin\
g
trim panel to door below map pocket (if equipped). Using a trim stick,\
remove screw cover from switch panel.
2) Remove screws securing switch panel to door trim and
remove panel. Using a trim stick, remove seat/mirror memory switch (if
equipped). Remove screw securing door trim to door panel from behind
inside latch release handle.
3) Disengage clips holding door trim to door frame around
perimeter of panel. Tilt top of trim panel away from door to gain
access to latch linkage. Disengage clip holding linkage rod to inside
latch release handle. Separate linkage rod from latch handle. Remove

( 1) - At maximum delay position, resistance should be 270-330 k/ohms
between all terminal pairs listed. At minimum delay position,
resistance should be zero when ohmmeter is set on high ohm scale
between all terminal pairs listed.

SYSTEM TESTS
WARNING: All vehicles are equipped with air bag restraint systems. See
appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article before
servicing steering wheel or column. Use extreme caution to
avoid personal injury and vehicle damage.
NOTE: If problem occurs in electronic components, wiring, wiper
switch or wiper motor, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will
be stored in BCM. For testing procedures, see appropriate
BODY CONTROL COMPUTER TESTS article.
WASHER
NOTE: Following testing applies when pump does not operate. If pump
operates, see TROUBLE SHOOTING.
1) Turn ignition on. Turn wiper switch on. If wipers operate,
go to next step. If wipers do not operate, diagnose wiper problem
first. See WIPER.

2) Turn wiper switch off. Depress washer switch. Washer pump
and wipers should operate while switch is depressed. Wipers should
operate about 3 sweeps after switch is released. If wipers are okay
but washer is not, go to next step. If washer is okay but wipers are
not, go to step 5).
3) Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable.
Disconnect washer pump harness connector. Check resistance between
washer pump harness connector Black wire terminal and ground. If
resistance is more than zero ohms, repair open in Black wire. If
resistance is zero ohms, go to next step.
4) Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. While
depressing washer switch, check voltage at washer pump harness
connector Brown wire terminal. If battery voltage exists, replace
pump. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Brown wire.
5) Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable.
Access CTM and disconnect CTM harness connector. Connect negative
battery cable. Turn ignition on. With washer switch depressed, check
voltage at CTM 14-pin harness connector terminal No. 10 (Brown wire).
See Fig. 3 . If battery voltage exists, check intermittent relay. See
INTERMITTENT WIPER RELAY under COMPONENT TESTS. If battery voltage
does not exist, repair open in Brown wire.

WIPER

NOTE: This testing applies to base model Ram Pickup. For high line
Ram Pickup testing, see appropriate BODY CONTROL COMPUTER
TESTS article.
NOTE: Wiper system utilizes a Central Timer Module (CTM) to control\
intermittent functions of wiper system. If problem is only
pulse wipe or wipe-after-wash, see WASHER.
1) Check fuse No. 6 (25-amp) in junction block. If fuse is
blown, replace fuse and repair short as necessary. If fuse is okay, go
to next step.
2) Turn ignition on. Check for battery voltage at fuse. If
battery voltage does not exist, repair open circuit between fuse and
ignition switch as necessary. If battery voltage exists, go to next
step.
3) Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable.
Disconnect multifunction switch harness connector. Connect negative
battery cable. Turn ignition on. Check for battery voltage at
multifunction switch harness connector terminal No. 4 (Dark Blue
wire). See Fig. 2. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If
battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Dark Blue wire between
fuse and multifunction switch.
4) If problem is intermittent wipe feature only, go to next
step. If problem is with all wiper modes or only HI and/or LO speed
modes, go to step 7).
5) Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable.
Disconnect CTM 14-pin harness connector. Check continuity between
multifunction switch harness connector terminal No. 1 (White/Dark Blue
wire) and CTM 14-pin harness connector terminal No. 12 (White/Dark
Blue wire). See Fig. 3. If continuity does not exist, repair open in
White/Dark Blue wire. If continuity exists, go to next step.
6) Check continuity between multifunction switch harness
connector terminal No. 2 (Violet wire) and CTM 14-pin harness
connector terminal No. 3 (Violet wire). If continuity does not exist,
repair open in Violet wire. If continuity exists, check intermittent
relay. See INTERMITTENT WIPER RELAY under COMPONENT TESTS.
7) Check continuity between multifunction switch harness
connector terminals No. 6 (Brown/White wire) and No. 9 (Brown/White
wire). If continuity does not exist, repair open in Brown/White wire.
If continuity exists, go to next step.
8) Check multifunction (wiper/washer) switch. See
WIPER/WASHER SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS. If switch tests okay,
connect switch and go to next step. If switch does not test okay,
replace multifunction switch.
9) Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable.
Access wiper motor harness connector. Check resistance between wiper
motor harness connector Black wire terminal and ground. If resistance
is more than zero ohms, repair open in Black wire. If resistance is
zero ohms, go to next step.
10) Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. Check
voltage by backprobing at wiper motor harness connector terminals
listed with multifunction switch in appropriate position. See SWITCH
POSITION VOLTAGE TEST table. If battery voltage exists at each
terminal, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist at any
terminal, repair open in appropriate wire.
