Shift Lock Release
If your vehicle’s battery should go dead, there are two
override access slots (for the console
shift) that will
allow you to override park lock.

underneath the steering
column below the
lock cylinder.

To use this slot:
1. Remove the trim cap.
2. Insert a key or screwdriver into the access slot and

trim cap after use. If your
vehicle
has a column-mounted gear shift lever, you will
now be able to shift your vehicle out of
PARK (P).

right-hand side of the console shift panel.
To use
this slot:
1. Remove the cap with the words SHIFT LOCK
RELEASE on it.
2. Insert a screwdriver into the slot. Be careful not to
damage the cap.
3. Press down and hold.
You will now be able to shift your vehicle out of
PARK (P) .

Delayed Illumination
The Delayed Illumination feature will continue to illuminate the interior for
25 seconds after all the doors
have been closed
so that you can find the ignition and
buckle your seat belt at night. Delayed Illumination will not occur while the ignition is in RUN or ACCESSORY.
After
25 seconds have elapsed, the interior lamps will
slowly fade out. The lamps will fade out before the
25 seconds have elapsed if you:
Turn the ignition to RUN or ACCESSORY.
Lock all doors using your remote keyless entry
Lock the doors using the power door lock switch.

off or on, see

Exit Lighting

For exiting your vehicle at night, your vehicle is
equipped with the Exit Lighting feature. The interior
lamps will illuminate for up to
25 seconds when you
remove your key from the ignition. After
25 seconds
have elapsed, the interior lamps will slowly fade out.
The lamps will fade out before the
25 seconds have
elapsed if you:
0 Turn the ignition to RUN or ACCESSORY.
0 Lock all doors using your remote keyless entry
0 Lock the doors using the power door lock switch.
When any door is opened, exit lighting is canceled. The
interior lamps will stay on while any door is opened and
will slowly fade out when all the doors are closed. The
interior lamps may stay on for up to
25 seconds after all
the doors have been closed if they have not been locked.

Battery Saver
Your vehicle has a feature to help prevent you from
draining the battery in case you accidentally leave the
interior, trunk or underhood lamps on. If you leave any
of these lamps on while the ignition is in LOCK or
OFF,
they will automatically turn off after 10 minutes. The
lamps won’t come back on again until you do one of
the following:
Turn the ignition to RUN or ACCESSORY.
0 Turn the interior lamp dial all the way to the right,
Open (or close and reopen) a door that is closed.

Note that if your vehicle has less than 15 miles (25 km)
on the odometer, the battery saver will turn off the lamps

Front Reading Lamps
Rear Assist Handle Reading Lamps
(If Equipped)
There is a reading lamp provided in each rear assist
handle. Use the button next
to each lamp to turn them on
and off.
Roof Console Reading Lamps
These lamps are part of the roof console. They will go
on when you open the doors. When the doors are closed,
push the button next
to each lamp to turn them on and
off. The console also contains an open storage bia

have reading lamps in front of your sunroof switch.
Press the button behind each reading lamp
to turn them
on and off.

Air Bag Readiness Light
There is an air bag readiness light on the instrument
panel, which shows
SRS AIR BAG. The system checks
the air bag’s electrical system for malfunctions. The
light tells you if there is
an electrical problem. The
system check includes the
air bag sensors, the air bag
modules, the wiring and
the crash sensing and
diagnostic module. For more information
on the air bag
system, see
“Air Bag” in the Index.
This light will come on
when you start your engine,
and it will flash for a few

engine or comes on when you are driving, your air bag
system may not work properly. Have your vehicle
serviced right away.
The air bag readiness light should flash for a few
seconds when you turn the ignition key to RUN. If the
light doesn’t come on then, have it fixed so it will be
ready to warn you if there is a problem.
Charging System Light

The charging system light
will come on briefly when
you
turn on the ignition, as
a check to show you
it’s
working. Then it will go
out.
If it stays on, or comes on while you are driving, you
may have a problem with the charging system. It could
indicate that you have a loose
drive belt or another
electrical problem. Have it checked right away. Driving
while
this light is on could drain your battery.
If you must drive a short distance with the light on, be
certain to turn
off all your accessories, such as the radio
and air conditioner.

Theft-Deterrent Feature
THEFTLOCK@ is designed to discourage theft of your radio. It works by using a secret code to disable all radio functions whenever battery power is removed.
The
THEFTLOCK feature for the radio may be used or
ignored. If ignored, the system plays normally and the
radio is not protected by the feature. If THEFTLOCK is
activated, your radio will not operate if stolen.
When THEFTLOCK is activated, the radio will display
LOC to indicate
a locked condition anytime battery
power is removed. If your battery loses power for any
reason, you must unlock
the radio with the secret code
before it will operate.
Activating the Theft-Deterrent Feature
The instructions which follow explain how to enter your
secret code to activate the THEFTLOCK system. It is
recommended that you read through all nine steps
before starting the procedure.
NOTE: If you allow more than 15 seconds to elapse
between any steps, the radio automatically reverts to
time and you must start the procedure over at Step
4.
1. Write down any three or four-digit number from
000 to 1999 and keep it in a safe place separate from
the vehicle.

Press the 1 and 4 buttons together. Hold them down

secret code number which you have written down.

Press AM-FM after you have confirmed that the
code matches the secret code you have written down.
The display will show REP to let
you know that you

Press AM-FM and this time the display will show SEC to let
you know that your radio is secure.
Note that with the ignition off, the THEFTLOCK
indicator will flash, indicating a secured radio.

2. Turn the radio off.
3. Press the 1 and 4 buttons together. Hold them down
until
SEC shows on the display.
4. Press MIN and 000 will appear on the display.
5. Press MIN again to make the last two digits agree
with your code.
6. Press HR to make the fist one or two digits agree

Run your engine only as long as you must. This saves
fuel. When you run the engine, make it
go a little faster
than just idle. That is, push the accelerator slightly. This
uses less fuel for the heat that you get and it keeps the
battery charged. You will need
a well-charged battery to
restart the vehicle, and possibly for signaling later on
with your headlamps. Let the heater
run for a while.
Then, shut the engine off and close the window almost
all the way to preserve the heat. Start the engine again
and repeat this only when you feel really uncomfortable
from the cold. But do it as little as possible. Preserve the
fuel as long as you can.
To help keep warm, you can get
out
of the vehicle and do some fairly vigorous exercises
every half hour or
so until help comes.

Two labels on your vehicle show how much weight it
may properly carry. The Tire-Loading Information label
is on the inside of the trunk lid. The label tells you the
proper size, speed rating and recommended inflation pressures for the tires on your vehicle. It also gives you
important information about the number
of people that
can be in your vehicle and the total weight you can
carry. This weight is called the vehicle capacity weight
and includes the weight
of all occupants, cargo and all
nonfactory-installed options.

another vehicle and some jumper cables to start your
vehicle. But please follow the steps listed to do
it safely.
