The controls are located
next to the radio on the
center console. Press this
button to turn on the heating
element in the seat. The
seatback and cushion are
warmed until they match
your body temperature.
A telltale light in the button reminds you that the heating
system is in use. The heated seats can only be used when
the ignition
is turned on.
Reclining Front Seatbacks
This feature is found on
the passenger’s seat only.
The manual recliner control
is located on the side
of
the passenger’s seatback
closest to the door, below
the lumbar control. See
“Manual Lumbar
Support’’
earlier in this section.
To move the seatback forward, turn the hand-wheel
control forward. Turn the control rearward to recline the seatback.
If
you have cloth seats, and if you want to fold the
seatback all the way down to provide extra storage, see
“Passenger Seatback Latch” later in this section.

A CAUTION:
It can be dangerous to drive with the trunk lid
open because carbon monoxide (CO) gas can
come into your vehicle. You can’t see or smell
CO. It can cause unconsciousness and even death.
If you must drive with the trunk lid open or if
electrical wiring or other cable connections must
pass through the seal between the body and the
trunk lid:
Make sure all other windows are shut.
Turn the fan on your heating or cooling
system to its highest speed with the setting
on
AUTO and the temperature between
65°F (18OC) and 85°F (29°C). That will
force outside
air into your vehicle. See
“Comfort Controls” in the Index.
0 If you have air outlets on or under the
instrument panel, open them all the way.
See “Engine Exhaust” in the Index.
To use this feature,
your vehicle must be in
PARK (P). Press the trunk
release button located on the
center console next to the
radio to open the trunk.
You can also press the trunk button on the remote
keyless entry transmitter to access the trunk
compartment. Your vehicle doesn’t have a trunk key
lock cylinder.

Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine With the key in the
ignition switch, you can
turn the switch to four
different positions.
LOCK (e): Before you put the key in, the ignition will
be in LOCK. This is the only position in which you can
remove the key. This position locks the ignition, steering
wheel and transmission. It’s
a theft-deterrent feature.
OFF (I): This position lets you turn off the engine but
still turn the steering wheel.
It doesn’t lock the steering
wheel like LOCK. Use
OFF if you must have your
vehicle in motion while the engine is off (for example,
if
your vehicle is being pushed).
ON (11): The ignition is on in this position. ON is used
for driving your vehicle.
START (111): This position starts the engine. To
lock the steering column, remove the key while
in
LOCK. Turn the steering wheel until you hear a click.
Retained Accessory Power
The radio is the only accessory on your vehicle that may
be used for up to
10 minutes after the ignition is turned
to
OFF.
Power to the fuel door, trunk release and door locks is
available at all times. The power window controls and the sunroof controls are active until a door is opened
-- there
is
no time limit as long as the doors remain closed.
Starting Your Engine
Move your shift lever to PARK (P) or NEUTRAL (N).
Your engine won’t start in any other position -- that’s a
safety feature.
To restart when you’re already moving,
use NEUTRAL
(N) only.
NOTICE:
Don’t try to shift to PARK (P) if your vehicle is
moving. If you do, you could damage the
transmission. Shift to PARK
(P) only when your
vehicle is stopped.

you to return to the low-beam headlamps. For more
information, see “Headlamp High/Low Changer” earlier
in this section.

the headlamps
off.
Note that if the headlamps are activated while driving
and then you turn your vehicle’s ignition off while the
lamp dial is still turned
on, the headlamps will turn off.
If, however, you open the driver’s door while the lamp
dial is still turned on, a warning chime will sound
reminding you to turn the lamp control dial to
OFF. This
will stop the warning chime from sounding. (If you want
the headlamps to remain on, you must manually turn the
lamp control dial
off and then back on to the headlamp
position. The headlamps will stay on until manually
turned off again.)

Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine Setting the Tone Playing a Cassette Tape
With the radio on,
insert a cassette tape. The tape will
begin playing as soon as it is inserted. When one side of
your cassette tape is done playing, auto reverse plays the
other side of your cassette tape. If you want to insert a
cassette tape when the ignition is off, first press the
eject button.
While the tape is playing, use the
VOL, FADE, BAL,
BASS and TREB controls just as you do for the radio.
Other controls may have different functions when a tape
is inserted. The display will show TAPE with an arrow
to indicate which side
of the tape is playing. PLAY will
appear on the display temporarily when a tape is
playing. The display will then revert back to showing
the time.
If an error occurs while trying to play a cassette tape, it
could be that:
BASS: Press this knob lightly so it extends. Turn
the knob to the right to increase and to the left to
decrease bass.
TREB: Press this knob lightly so it extends. Turn the
knob to the right to increase and to the left to decrease
treble.
If a station is weak or noisy, you may want to
decrease the treble.
Push these knobs back into their stored positions when
you’re not using them.
Adjusting the Speakers
BAL: Press this knob lightly so it extends. Turn the
knob to the right to adjust sound to the right speakers
and to the left for the left speakers. The middle position
balances the sound between the speakers.
FADE: Press this knob lightly so it extends. Turn the
knob to the right to adjust the sound to the front
speakers and to the left for the rear speakers. The middle
position balances the sound between the speakers.
Push these knobs back into their stored positions when
you’re not using them.
The cassette tape is tight and the cassette player
cannot turn the hubs of the tape. Hold the cassette
tape with the open end down and
try turning the right
hub to the left with a pencil. Flip the tape over and
repeat.
If the hubs do not turn easily, your cassette
tape may be damaged
and should not be used in the
player.
Try a new tape to be sure your player is
working properly.
