Temperature control
[CF03100(ALL)01/96]
The air temperature can be adjusted by moving
the marker on the temperature control to the red
area for warm air, or to the blue area for
unheated air. The air will become warmer or
cooler depending on how far the control is
turned.

Turning On the Heat
*
[CF03800(ALL)01/96]
To heat the inside of your vehicle:
[CF03850(ALL)01/96]
1. Turn the function selector control to FLOOR.
[CF03900(ALL)01/96]
When FLOOR is selected, air is directed
through the floor registers, and a little air is
also directed at the windshield and side
windows to help prevent fogging.
[CF03975(ALL)01/96]
2. Turn the temperature control all the way to
the right in the red area, or to the desired
temperature.
[CF04000(ALL)04/96]
3. Set the fan at the desired speed.

Tips for controlling the temperature in your
vehicle
*
[CF05900(ALL)01/96]
q
To vary the temperature inside your vehicle,
move the temperature selector toward the red
area for warmer air and toward the blue area
for cooler air.
*
[CF06000(ALL)01/96]
q
If you drive with the fan off and the
windows closed, the windows may fog up.
To prevent fogging:
[CF06100(ALL)01/96]
1. Set the function selector control to VENT,
MIX, FLOOR or theVposition.
*
[CF06200(ALL)01/96]
2. Set the desired temperature.
*
[CF06300(ALL)04/96]
3. Set the
H(fan speed) to the desired
position.
*
[CF06400(ALL)01/96]
q
Do not put objects under the front seats that
will interfere with the flow of air to the back
seats.
*
[CF06500(ALL)01/96]
q
Remove any snow, ice, or leaves from the
area below the windshield on the outside of
your vehicle. They could block the air intake.

MAX A/C
[CF07400(ALL)01/96]
When MAX A/C is selected, cooled interior air
is recirculated through the system. This position
is more efficient than NORM A/C.
*
[CF07500(ALL)01/96]
To cool your vehicle quickly in warm weather:
[CF07600(ALL)01/96]
1. Turn the function selector control to MAX
A/C.
[CF07700(ALL)01/96]
2. Turn the temperature control to the blue
(cool) area.
[CF07800(ALL)04/96]
3. Set the fan at the desired speed.
[CF08000(ALL)03/96]
Because MAX A/C uses recirculated air, MAX is
usually more efficient than NORM A/C. You
can switch to outside air NORM A/C at any
time, especially after the vehicle has cooled
down.
[CF08100(ALL)03/96]
You may notice a slight odor when using the
MAX A/C position. This is normal. If the odor
becomes annoying, switch the function selector
to NORM A/C.
[CF08200(ALL)01/96]
To provide the most quiet operation when using
MAX A/C, reduce the fan speed after a
comfortable temperature has been reached.
[CF08300(ALL)04/96]
NORM A/C
[CF08400(ALL)01/96]
When maximum air conditioning is not needed,
you can use the NORM A/C position to cool
your vehicle with outside air. Cooling your
vehicle this way brings in outside air and is
quieter, but it is less efficient.

In mild weather, setting the function selector

Engine Idle Speed Control System
*
[CF09100(ALL)01/96]
Genuine Ford air conditioning (either
factory-installed or dealer-installed) has an
engine idle speed control system that
compensates for engine speed loss that may
occur when the air conditioning compressor is
running. This idle speed control holds the engine
idle essentially constant, regardless of whether
the air conditioning system is on or off.
[CF09200(ALL)01/96]
NOTE: Whenever service to the air
conditioning system is required, make
sure the service facility uses a
refrigerant recycling system. These
systems will capture the refrigerant for
reuse. Releasing certain refrigerants
into the atmosphere is hazardous to the
environment.
