1996 PONTIAC GRAND-AM headlamp

Run your engine only as long as you must. This saves
fuel. When you run the engine, make it go a little faster
than just idle. That is, push the accelerator slightly. This
uses less fuel for the heat that you get and it keeps the
battery charged. You will need a well-charged battery to
rest& the vehicle, and possibly for signaling later on
with your headlamps. Let the heater run for awhile.
Then, shut the engine
off and close the window almost
all the way to preserve the heat. Start the engine again
and repeat this only when you feel really uncomfortable
from the co1d:But do it as little as possible. Preserve the
fuel
as long as you can. To help keep warm, you can get
out of the vehicle and do some fairly vigorous exercises
every half hour or
so until help comes.
Recreational Vehicle Towing
There may be times when you want to tow your Pontiac
behind another vehicle for use at your destination. Be
sure
to use the proper towing equipment designed for
recreational towing. Follow the instructions for the
towing equipment.
Towing Your Vehicle from the Front
Follow these steps:

Halogen Bulbs
’ I CAUTION:
I
Halogen bulbs have pressurized gas-inside and
can
burst if you drop or scratch the bulb. You or
others could be injured. Be sure to read and
follow the instructions on the bulb package.
Headlamp Bulb Replacement
When replacing the headlamp bulb, do not touch the
glass portion of the new halogen bulb. The oil from your
fingers
will shorten the life of your new halogen bulb.

1. On the driver’s side only, unscrew the butterfly
2. Remove the attachment bolts of the headlamp
fastener. Then
lift the plate.

4. Lift the headlamp assembly out of the mounting
bracket
5. Twist the bulb assembly counterclockwise one-sixth
of a turn and pull out the bulb assembly.
6. Unclip the bulb assembly from the wiring harness.
7. Reverse Steps 1 through 5 to replace the bulb
assembly and headlamp housing.

Wheel Replacement
Replace any wheel that is bent, cracked, or badly rusted
or co’rroded.
If wheel nuts keep coming loose, the wheel,
wheel bolts and wheel nuts should be replaced.
If the
wheel leaks air, replace it (except some aluminum
wheels, which can sometimes be repaired). See your
Pontiac dealer if any
of these conditions exist.
Your dealer will know the kind
of wheel you need.
Each new wheel should have the she load carrying
capacity, diameter, width, offset and be mounted the
same way as the one it replaces.
If you need to replace any of your wheels, wheel bolts
or wheel nuts, replace them only with new
GM original
equipment
parts. This way, you will be sure to have the
right wheel, wheel bolts
and wheel nuts for your Pontiac
model.
A CAUTION:
Using the wrong replacement wheels, wheel bolts
or wheel nuts on your vehicle can be dangerous.
It could affect the braking and handling
of your
vehicle, make your tires lose air and make you
lose control. You could have
a collision in which
you
or others could be injured. Always use the
correct wheel, wheel bolts and wheel nuts
for
replacement.
NOTICE:
The wrong wheel can also cause problems
with bearing life, brake cooling,
speedometer/odometer calibration, headlamp
aim, bumper height, vehicle grou.nd clearance
and tire
or tire chain clearance to the body and
chassis.

Your vehicle has an air bag system. Before attempting to
add
anything electrical to you Pontiac, see "Servicing

Headlamp Wiring
The headlamp wiring is protected by a circuit breaker
located
in the instrument panel fuse block. An electricall
overload will cause the headlamps to go on and off, or in
some cases tb remain off.' If this happens, have your
headlamp system checked right away.
Windshield Wipers
The windshield wiper motor is protected by a circuit
breaker and a
fuse. If the motor overheats du'e to heavy
snow, etc., the wiper will. stop until the motor cools.
If
the overload is caused by-some electrical problem, have
it fixed.
Power Windows and Other Power Options
Circuit breakers in the fuse panel protect the power
windows and other power accessories. When the current
load
is too heavy, the circuit breaker opens and closes,
protecting
the circuit until the problem is fixed.
