1996 NISSAN QUEST windshield wipers

cThe headlights and tail lights flash and
the horn sounds intermittently. In addi-
tion, the starter motor does not operate.
cThe alarm automatically turns off after
two to three minutes. However, the alarm
reactivates if the vehicle is tampered with
again. The alarm can be shut off by
unlocking a door with the key or by
pressing the
button on the multi-
remote controller.
The alarm is activated when:
ca door is unlocked or opened without
using the key or the multi-remote control-
ler. This includes unlocking the doors
with the inside door lock switch.
cthe hood is opened.
cthe ignition is placed into the ACC, ON,
or START position without the key in the
ignition.
How to stop the alarm
The alarm stops only by unlocking a door
with the key or by pressing the
button on
the multi-remote controller. The alarm does
not stop if the ignition key is turned to the
ACC or ON position.If the system does not operate as de-
scribed above, have it checked by your
NISSAN dealer.
To operate the wipers intermittently, adjust
the knob between the S and F positions. For
continuous operation, select LO or HI.

To operate the washer, press on the end of
the wiper knob. For more washer fluid, push
and hold the end of the wiper knob. The
wipers cycle a few times when the washer is
activated. The washer operates in any of
the wiper positions.
CAUTION
cDo not operate the washer continu-
ously for more than 30 seconds.
cDo not operate the washer if the
reservoir tank is empty.
WARNING
In freezing temperatures the washer
solution may freeze on the windshield
and obscure your vision. Warm the
windshield with the defroster before
you wash the windshield.
Push and hold the rear washer switch to
operate the rear washer. The wiper cycles
continuously until the switch is released.
Push the rear wiper switch to operate the
wiper. The wiper cycles intermittently. Push
again to cancel.
CAUTION
cDo not operate the washer continu-
ously for more than 30 seconds.
cDo not operate the washer if the
reservoir tank is empty.

WARNING
Operating the engine with the air cleaner
off can cause you or others to be burned.
The air cleaner not only cleans the air, it
stops flame if the engine backfires. If it
isn't there, and the engine backfires, you
could be burned. Don't drive with it off,
and be careful working on the engine
with the air cleaner off.
1) CLEANING
If your windshield is not clear after using
the windshield washer or if the wiper
blade chatters when running, wax or
other material may be on the blade or
windshield.
Clean the outside of the windshield with a
washer solution or a mild detergent. Your
windshield is clean if beads do not form
when rinsing with clear water.
Clean the blade by wiping it with a cloth
soaked in a washer solution or a mild
detergent. Then, rinse the blade with
clear water. If your windshield is still notclear after cleaning the blades and using
the wipers, replace the blades.
2) REPLACEMENT
1. Lift the wiper arm away from the wind-
shield.
2. Push the lock pin, then remove the wiper
blade.
3. Insert the new wiper blade to the wiper
arm until it clicks into place.

make sure no nuts are missing, and check
for any loose nuts. Tighten if necessary.
Tire rotation*Ð Tires should be rotated
every 7,500 miles (12,000 km).
Wheel alignment and balanceÐIfthe
vehicle should pull to either side while driv-
ing on a straight and level road, or if you
detect uneven or abnormal tire wear, there
may be a need for wheel alignment.
If the steering wheel or seat vibrates at
normal highway speeds, wheel balancing
may be needed.
Windshield wiper blades*Ð Check for
cracks or wear if they do not wipe properly.
Doors and engine hoodÐ Check that all
doors and the engine hood operate prop-
erly. Also ensure that all latches lock se-
curely. Lubricate hinges, latches, rollers and
links if necessary. Make sure the secondary
latch keeps the hood from opening when
the primary latch is released.
When driving in areas using road salt or
other corrosive materials, check lubrication
frequently.INSIDE THE VEHICLE
The maintenance items listed here should
be checked on a regular basis, such as
when performing periodic maintenance,
cleaning the vehicle, etc.
Lights*Ð Make sure the headlights, stop
lights, tail lights, turn signal lights, and other
lights are all operating properly and installed
securely. Also check headlight aim.
Warning lights and buzzers/chimesÐ
Make sure all warning lights and
buzzers/chimes are operating properly.
Windshield wiper and washer*Ð Check
that the wipers and washer operate properly
and that the wipers do not streak.
Windshield defrosterÐ Check that the air
comes out of the defroster outlets properly
and in sufficient quantity when operating the
heater or air conditioner.
Steering wheelÐ Check for changes in
the steering conditions, such as excessive
freeplay, hard steering or strange noises.
SeatsÐ Check seat position controls such
as seat adjusters, seatback recliner, etc. to
ensure they operate smoothly and all
latches lock securely in every position.Check that the head restraints move up and
down smoothly and the locks hold securely
in all latched positions. Check that the seat
leg latches lock securely in every anchor
position for the folding down rear seat and
detachable rear seat (if so equipped).
Seat beltsÐ Check that all parts of the seat
belt system (e.g. buckles, anchors, adjust-
ers and retractors) operate properly and
smoothly, and are installed securely. Check
the belt webbing for cuts, fraying, wear or
damage.
Accelerator pedalÐ Check the pedal for
smooth operation and make sure the pedal
does not catch or require uneven effort.
Keep the floor mats away from the pedal.
BrakesÐ Check that the brakes do not pull
the vehicle to one side when applied.
Brake pedal*Ð Check the pedal for
smooth operation and make sure it has the
proper distance under it when depressed
fully. Check the brake booster function. Be
certain to keep floor mats away from the
pedal.
Parking brake*Ð Check that the pedal is
adjusted to specification and confirm that
your vehicle is held securely on a fairly
