Rear Wiper Motor Test (Hatchback)
1.Remove the hatch lower trim panel (see section 20).
Disconnect the 4P connector from the wiper motorassemDry,
Test the motor by connecting battery power to theNo. 1 terminal and ground to the No. 3 terminal.
lf the motor does not run or fails to run smoothly, reptace rI.
Reconnect the 4P connector to the wiper motor.
Connect an analog voltmeter between the No. 4 (+)
and No.2 (-)terminals,
Run the motor by turning the wiper switch ON.
The voltmeter should indicate 0 V and 4 V or lessalternately.

Precautions/ Procedures
)General Precautions
r Carefully inspect any SRS part before you install it Do
not install any part that shows signs of being dropped
or improperly handled' such as dents, cracks or defor-
mation:
- Airbags- Cable reel
- SRS unit
-
Use only a digital multimeter to check the system lf
it's not a Honda multimeter, make sure its output ls
1O mA (0.01 A) or less when switched to the smallest
value in the ohmmeter range. A tester with a higher
output could damage the airbag circuit or cause acci-
dental deployment and possible injury'
I Do not install used SRS parts from another vehicle
When making SRS repairs, use only new pans'
) Except when performing electrical inspections'
always disconnect both the negative cable and posl-
tive cable from the battery, and wait at least three
minutes before beginning work
r Replacement of the combination light and wiper/
washer switches and cruise control switch can be
done without removing the steering wheel:
- Combinalion light and wiper/washer switch replace
ment, see section 23
- Cruise control sevresume switch replacement' see
section 23.
. Whenever the ignition switch is ON {ll), or has been
turned OFF for less than three minutes' be careful not
to bump the SRS unit; the airbag(s) could accidental-
ly deploy and cause damage or injury'
. Whenever the airbag{s) has(have) been activated'
replace the SRS unit.l,

Airbag Handling and Storage
Do not try to disassemble the airbag assembly. lt has no
serviceable parts Once an airbag has been operated
(deployed). it cannot be repaired or reused'
For temporary storage of the airbag assembly during ser-
vice. olease observe the following precauttons:
. store the .emoved airbag assemblv with the pad sur-
face uo The driver's (and front passenger's) airbag

18. Reconnect the driver's airbag 2P connector to the
cable reel 2P connector. and reinstall the accesspanel on the steering wheel.
19. Reconnect the battery positive cable, then the nega-
tive cable.
20. After installing the cable reel, confirm proper sys-
tem operation:
Turn the ignition switch ON (ll); the SRS indica-
tor light should come on for about six seconds
and then go off.
Make sure both horn buttons work.
Make sure the headlight and wiper switches
Go for a test drive, and make sure the cruise con
trol switches work.

Connector Views
To see the configuration of a connector's cavities, look up its view number in the Connector
View section in the back of the book. Each view includes the color of the connector, where it
is located, and what it connects to.
Use the Connector Views to help locate the proper cavity when you need to probe a
connector. lt can be especially helpful if the connector has more than one wire of the same
cotor.
Connector views can also be used to help diagnose multiple symptoms in separate circuits
which could be caused by a single problem in a connector shared by those circuits. Here's
how:
1. Pick one of the multiple symptoms and look up the schematic for that circuit.
2. Make a list of all the in-line and fuse box connectors in that schematic (include page
numbers).
3. Then, in the Connector View section, look up each connector on your list to see il circuits
related to the other symptoms run through one of them. lf they do, inspect that connector
for the oroblem.
Example: The blower, rear window defogger, and the windshield wiper don't work. List all
in-line and fuse box connectors in the blower controls circuit and then check the Connector
View section (sample below). You find that C324 is common to the rear window defogger
circuit and wiper/washer circuit, so you inspect C324 and find the problem, bent terminals.
