Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine You may wonder what happens if your vehicle needs a
new odometer installed.
If the new one can be set to the mileage total of the old
odometer, then it must be. But
if it can’t, then it’s set at
zero and
a label must be put on the driver’s door to show
the old mileage reading when the new odometer was
installed.
Trip Odometer (Option)
The trip odometer can tell you how far your vehicle has
been driven since
you last set the trip odometer to zero.
To set
the trip odometer to zero, press the knob to the
right
of it.
Tachometer (Option)
The tachometer displays the engine speed in revolutions
per minute (rpm).
I NOTICE:
I
Do not operate the engine with the tachometer in
the red area, or engine damage may
occur.
Warning Lights, Gages and
Indicators
This part describes the warning lights and gages that
may be
on your vehicle. The pictures will help you
locate them.
Warning lights and gages can signal that something is
wrong before
it becomes serious enough to cause an
expensive repair or replacement. Paying attention
to
your warning lights and gages could also save you or
others from injury.
Warning lights come
on when there may be or is a
problem with one of your vehicle’s functions.
As you
will
see in the details on the next few pages, some
warning lights come
on briefly when you start the
engine just to let you know they’re working. If you are
familiar with this section,
you should not be alarmed
when this happens.
Gages can indicate when there may be or is a problem
with one
of your vehicle’s functions. Often gages and
warning lights work together to let you know when
there’s a problem with your vehicle.

manual,
see “Service Publications” in the Index.
You should keep a record with all parts receipts and list
the mileage and the date of any service work you
perform. See “Maintenance Record” in the Index.
1 NOTICE:
If you try to do your own service work without
knowing enough about it, your vehicle
could be
damaged.
Fuel
Use regular unleaded gasoline rated at 87 octane or
higher. It should meet specifications
ASTM D4814 in
the United States and
CGSB 3.5-92 in Canada. These
fuels should have the proper additives,
so you should not
have to add anything to the fuel.
In the United States and Canada, it’s easy to
be sure you
get the right kind of gasoline (unleaded). You’ll see
UNLEADED right
on the pump. And only unleaded
nozzles will
fit into your vehicle’s filler neck.
Be sure the posted octane
is at least 87. If the octane is
less than 87, you may get a heavy knocking noise when
you drive. If it’s bad enough, it can damage your engine.
If you’re using fuel rated at 87 octane or higher and
you still hear heavy knocking, your engine needs
service.
But don’t worry if you hear a little pinging
noise when you’re accelerating or driving
up a hill.
