Turn Signal and Lane Change
Indicator
(CONT.)
To signal a lane change, just raise or
lower the lever until the green arrow
starts to flash. Hold it there until you
complete your lane change. The lever
will return by itself when you release
it.
As you signal a turn or a lane change, if
the arrows don’t flash but just stay on, a
signal bulb may be burned out and other
drivers won’t see your turn signal.
If a bulb is burned out, replace
it to help
avoid an accident. If the green arrows
don’t
go on at all when you signal a
turn, check the fuse (see the Index under
Fuses & Circuit Breakers) and for
burned-out bulbs.

Cruise Control (OPTION)
With cruise control, you can maintain a.
speed
of about 25 mph (40 km/h) or
more without keeping your foot
on the
accelerator. This can really help on long
trips. Cruise control does
not work at
speeds below about
25 mph (40 km/h).
When
you apply your brake or the
clutch pedal, the cruise control
shuts
off. I
I CAUTION
IL
A 0 Cruise control can be
dangerous where you can’t
drive safely
at a steady speed.
So, don’t use your cruise control ‘
on winding roads ofin heavy
traff1C.
I
0 Cruise control can be dangerous
on slippery roads. On such
roads, fast changes
in tire
traction can cause needless wheel
1 spinnin&and you could lose
control.
Don’t use cruise control
on slippery roads.

Turn Signals When Towing a ’Railer
When you tow a trailer, your vehicle has
to have a different turn signal flasher
and extra wiring. The green arrows on
your instrument panel will flash
whenever you signal a
turn or lane
change. Properly hooked up, the trailer
lights will also flash, telling other drivers you’re about to turn, change
lanes or stop.
When towing a trailer, the green arrows
on your instrument panel will flash for
turns even if the bulbs on the trailer are
burned out. Thus, you may think drivers
behind you are seeing your signal when
they are not. It’s important to check occasionally to be sure the trailer bulbs
are still working.
Driving On Grades
Reduce speed and shift to a lower gear
before you start down a long or steep
downgrade. If you don’t shift down, you
might have to use your brakes
so much
that they would get hot and no longer work well.
On a long uphill grade, use the highest
gear possible. If you cannot maintain
posted speeds, driving at a lower speed
may help avoid overheating your engine
and transaxle.
If you have a manual transaxle with
fifth
gear, it’s better not to use fifth gear. Just
drive in fourth gear (or, as you need to,
a lower gear).
Parking on Hills
You really should not park your vehicle,
with a trailer attached,
on a hill. If
something goes wrong, your rig could
start to move. People can be injured,
and both your vehicle and the trailer can
be damaged.
But if you ever have to park your rig on
a hill, here’s how to do it:
1. Apply your regular brakes, but don’t
shift into
P (Park) yet, or into gear
for a manual transaxle.
2. Have someone place chocks under
the trailer wheels.
3. When the wheel chocks are in place,
release the regular brakes until the chocks absorb the load.
