When trouble arises
■If “Radar Cruise Control Unavail-
able” is displayed (if equipped)
The dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range system cannot be used
temporarily. Use the system when it becomes available again.
■If a message that indicates the need for visiting your Toyota dealer
is displayed
The system or part shown on the multi- information display is malfunctioning.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
■If a message that indicates the need for referring to Owner’s Man-ual is displayed
●If “Engine Coolant Temp High Stop in a Safe Place See Owner’s Manual” is
displayed, follow the instructions accordingly. ( P.477)
●If “Exhaust Filter Full See Owner’s Manual” is displayed, follow the instructions accordingly. ( P.327)
●If “Oil Pressure Low Stop in a Safe Place See Owner’s Manual” is dis-
played, follow the instructions accord- ingly. ( P.383)
●If any of the following messages are displayed on the multi-information dis-play, it may indicate a malfunction.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately. • “Smart Entry & Start System Malfunc-tion See Owner’s Manual”
• “Hybrid System Malfunction” • “Check Engine”• “Hybrid Battery System Malfunction”
• “Accelerator System Malfunction” • “Hybrid System Stopped”• “Engine Stopped”
●If any of the following messages are displayed on the multi-information dis-
play, it may indicate a malfunction. Immediately stop the vehicle and con-tact any authorized Toyota retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any reli-
able repairer. • “Braking Power Low Visit Your Dealer”• “12-Volt Battery Charging System
Malfunction Visit Your Dealer”
●If “Low Auxiliary Battery See Owner’s
Manual” is shown, • When the display goes off after sev-eral seconds (displays for about 6
seconds): Maintain the hybrid system operation for more than 15 minutes and charge the 12-volt battery.
• When the display does not go off: Start up the hybrid system using the procedures: P. 4 7 2
●If “Maintenance Required for Traction Battery Cooling Parts See Owner’s
Manual” is shown, the filters may be clogged, the air intake vents may be blocked, or there may be a gap in the
duct. Therefore, perform the following correction procedure.• If the air intake vents and filters of the
hybrid battery (traction battery) are dirty, perform the procedure on P.406 to clean them.
• If the warning message is shown when the air intake vents and filters of the hybrid battery (traction battery) are
not dirty, have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reli-
able repairer immediately.
■If “Maintenance Required For Trac- tion Battery At Your Dealer” is dis-played
The hybrid battery (traction battery) is scheduled to be inspected or replaced. Have the vehicle inspected by any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer immediately.
●Continuing to drive the vehicle without having the hybrid battery (traction bat-
tery) inspected will cause the hybrid system not to start.
●If the hybrid system does not start, contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer immediately.

7-2. Steps to take in an emergency
authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer as soon as possible.
■Starting the hybrid system when the 12-volt battery is discharged
The hybrid system cannot be started by
push-starting.
■To prevent 12-volt battery dis- charge
●Turn off the headlights and the audio system while the hybrid system is off.
●Turn off any unnecessary electrical components when the vehicle is run-ning at a low speed for an extended
period, such as in heavy traffic.
■When the 12-volt battery is removed or discharged
●Information stored in the ECU is cleared. When the 12-volt battery is depleted, have the vehicle inspected
at any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reli-able repairer.
●Some systems may require initializa-tion. ( P.505)
■When removing the 12-volt battery
terminals
When the 12-volt battery terminals are removed, the information stored in the
ECU is cleared. Before removing the 12- volt battery terminals, contact any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
■Charging the 12-volt battery
The electricity stored in the 12-volt bat- tery will discharge gradually even when the vehicle is not in use, due to natural
discharge and the draining effects of certain electrical appliances. If the vehi-cle is left for a long time, the 12-volt bat-
tery may discharge, and the hybrid system may be unable to start. (The 12-volt battery recharges automatically
while the hybrid system is operating.)
■When recharging or replacing the
12-volt battery (vehicles with a smart entry & start system)
●In some cases, it may not be possible to unlock the doors using the smart entry & start system when the 12-volt
battery is discharged. Use the wire- less remote control or the mechanical key to lock or unlock the doors.
●The hybrid system may not start on the first attempt after the 12-volt bat-
tery has recharged but will start nor- mally after the second attempt. This is not a malfunction.
●The power switch mode is memorized by the vehicle. When the 12-volt bat-
tery is reconnected, the system will return to the mode it was in before the 12-volt battery was discharged.
Before disconnecting the 12-volt bat- tery, turn the power switch off.If you are unsure what mode the
power switch was in before the 12-volt battery discharged, be especially careful when reconnecting the 12-volt
battery.
■When replacing the 12-volt battery
●Use a Central Degassing type 12-volt
battery (European Regulations).
●Use a battery that the case size is
same as the previous one, 20 hour rate capacity (20HR) is equivalent or greater, and performance rating
(CCA) is equivalent or greater. Check the label on top of the battery for the battery size and specifications (ex.
LN0, 35Ah, 264A). • If the sizes differ, the 12-volt battery cannot be properly secured.
• If the 20 hour rate capacity is low, even if the time period where the vehi-cle is not used is a short time, the 12-
volt battery may discharge and the hybrid system may not be able to start.
●Use a ventilation type calcium battery
●Use a 12-volt battery with a handle. If a 12-volt battery without a handle is used, removal is more difficult.

7-2. Steps to take in an emergency
WARNING
●Always wash your hands after han- dling the 12-volt battery support,
terminals, and other battery-related parts.
●Do not allow children near the 12-volt battery.
■After recharging the 12-volt bat-tery
Have the 12-volt battery inspected at
any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reli-able repairer as soon as possible.
If the 12-volt battery is deteriorating, continued use may cause the 12-volt battery to emit a malodorous gas,
which may be detrimental to the health of passengers.
■When replacing the 12-volt bat-tery
●For information regarding 12-volt
battery replacement, contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.
●After replacing, securely attach the exhaust hose and exhaust hole plug to the exhaust hole of the
replaced 12-volt battery. If not prop- erly installed, gases (hydrogen) may leak into the vehicle interior,
and there is the possible danger of the gas igniting and exploding.
NOTICE
■When handling jumper cables
When connecting the jumper cables, ensure that they do not become entangled in the cooling fan, etc.
■To prevent damaging the vehicle
The exclusive jump starting terminal
is to be used when charging the 12- volt battery from another vehicle in an emergency. It cannot be used to jump
start another vehicle.
