Anti-theft protectionDo not modify the electronic vehicle immobiliser, as this might result in malfunctions.For vehicles with a key ignition switch, remember to remove the key and turn the steering wheel to engage the steering lock.

Locking the vehicleDriving with the doors locked could make it more difficult for the emergency services to enter the passenger compartment in an emergency.As a safety precaution, remove the key from the ignition or take the electronic key with you when leaving the vehicle, even for a short time.

Purchasing a second-hand vehicleHave the key codes memorised by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer, to ensure that the keys in your possession are the only ones able to start the vehicle.
WARNI NG
To preserve the battery charge in the electronic key and the vehicle's battery, the "hands-free" functions are set to hibernation mode after 21 days without use. To restore these functions, press one of the remote control buttons or start the engine with the electronic key in the reader.

Electrical interferenceThe electronic key may not operate if close to certain electronic devices such as telephones (switched on or on standby) or laptop computers, strong magnetic fields, etc. If this happens, remove the electronic key from the electronic device.

Accumulations (water, dust, grime, salt, etc.) on the inner surface of the door handle may
affect detection.If cleaning the inner surface of the door handle using a cloth does not restore detection, contact any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.A sudden splash of water (stream of water, high pressure jet washer, etc.) may be identified by the system as the desire to open the vehicle.

Unlocking is signalled by rapid flashing of the direction indicators for a few seconds.Depending on version, the door mirrors unfold and the alarm is deactivated.
With the key
► To unlock the vehicle fully, turn the key in the front left-hand door lock towards the front of the vehicle.If the vehicle has an alarm, it will not be deactivated. Opening a door will trigger the alarm, which can be stopped by switching the ignition on.

If the "Hands-free tailgate access self-locking" option is selected in the vehicle menu and after closing the door, check that the vehicle is properly locked.Locking will not take place:– if the ignition is on,– if one of the doors or the tailgate is open,
– if a "Smart Entry & Start" remote control is inside the vehicle. If a number of gestures with your foot have no effect, wait a few seconds before starting again.The system is automatically deactivated in heavy rain or with accumulations of snow.If it does not work, make sure that the remote control is not exposed to a source of electromagnetic interference (smartphone, etc.).Operation may be affected if using a prosthetic leg.This system may not work correctly if your vehicle is fitted with a towbar.

The side door may open or close without warning if: – Your vehicle is fitted with a towbar.– A trailer is coupled or decoupled.– A bicycle carrier is installed or removed.– Bicycles are loaded on to or unloaded from the bicycle carrier.
– Something is deposited or lifted behind the vehicle.– An animal approaches the bumper,– The vehicle is washed.– The vehicle is being serviced.– A wheel is changed. To avoid any sudden operation, keep the key away from the detection zone (also from the boot’s interior sides) or deactivate the function in the vehicle configuration menu.

Ensure that no person or object might prevent the correct opening or closing of the doors.Be aware of children when operating the doors.
Side-hinged rear doors

► After first opening the left-hand door, pull the lever A towards you to open the right-hand door.
Closing
► First close the right-hand door, then the left-hand door.

If the left-hand door is closed first, a buffer stop located on the edge of the right-hand door prevents it closing.

The normal operation of the ABS may result in slight vibrations in the brake pedal.
This warning lamp comes on fixed in the event of an ABS malfunction.The vehicle retains conventional braking. Drive carefully at a moderate speed.

Emergency braking
assistance (EBA)
In an emergency, this system enables you to reach the optimum braking pressure more quickly and therefore reduce the stopping distance.It is triggered in relation to the speed at which the brake pedal is pressed. This is felt by a reduction in the resistance of the pedal and an increase in braking efficiency.
Anti-slip regulation (ASR)
/ Dynamic stability control
(DSC)
Anti-slip regulation (or traction control) optimises traction by using engine braking and by applying the brakes on the driving wheels to avoid one or more wheels spinning. It also enhances the vehicle's directional stability.If there is a difference between the vehicle’s trajectory and the path desired by the driver, the dynamic stability control system automatically uses engine braking and the brakes on one or
more wheels to return the vehicle to the desired path, within the limits of the laws of physics.These systems are activated automatically every time the vehicle is started.These systems are activated in the event of a problem with grip or trajectory (confirmed by this warning lamp flashing on the instrument panel).
Deactivation/Reactivation
In exceptional conditions (moving a vehicle that is bogged down in mud, stuck in snow, on loose soil, etc.), it may prove useful to deactivate the DSC/ASR systems, so that the wheels can move freely and regain grip.However, it is recommended that the systems be reactivated as soon as possible.

Only the ASR system can be deactivated from the touch screen.

► Release the brake pedal and depress the accelerator pedal.

With an automatic gearbox or drive selector, if the brake does not release automatically, check that the front doors are properly closed.

When stationary with the engine running, do not depress the accelerator pedal unnecessarily. Risk of parking brake release.
Automatic application
With the vehicle stationary, the parking brake is applied automatically when the engine is switched off.
WARNI NG
It is not applied automatically if the engine stalls or enters STOP mode with Stop & Start.

In automatic mode, the parking brake can be manually applied or released at any time using the control.

To immobilise the vehicle with the engine running, briefly pull the control lever.

In very cold conditions (ice), applying the parking brake is not recommended.To immobilise the vehicle, engage a gear or place the chocks against one of the wheels.

With an automatic gearbox or drive selector, while mode N is selected, opening the driver’s door triggers an audible signal. It stops when the driver's door closes again.
Deactivating automatic
operation
In some situations, for example when it is extremely cold or when towing (e.g. caravan, breakdown), it may be necessary to deactivate automatic operation of the system.


► Start the engine.► Use the control lever to apply the parking brake, if it is released.► Take your foot fully off the brake pedal.► Hold the control lever pressed in the release direction for between 10 and a maximum of 15 seconds.► Release the control lever.► Depress and hold the brake pedal.► Pull the control lever in the application direction for 2 seconds.This indicator lamp on the instrument panel comes on to confirm deactivation of
the automatic functions.► Release the control lever and the brake pedal.

If your vehicle has an automatic gearbox, do not try to start the engine by pushing the vehicle.
Drive selector (Electric)

The drive selector is a pulse selector with a regenerative braking function.The drive selector provides traction control based on the driving style, the road profile and the vehicle load.With regenerative braking activated, it also manages engine braking when the accelerator pedal is released.
P.ParkButton for parking the vehicle: the front wheels are locked (the button lights up to indicate that it is activated).
R.ReverseTo engage reverse gear, with your foot on the brake pedal.
N.NeutralTo move the vehicle with the ignition off and so allow it to free-wheel.For more information on Free-wheeling, refer to the corresponding section.
D.Drive (automatic forward gear)
B.Brake (regenerative braking)Button for changing to Drive/automatic forward gear mode with regenerative braking function (the button lights up to indicate that it is activated).

When the ignition is switched on, the drive selector status is displayed on the instrument panel:P: Park.R: Reverse.N: Neutral.D: Drive (automatic forward gear).B: Brake (automatic forward gear with regenerative braking function activated).
Operation
► Move the selector by pressing it forwards (N or R) or rearwards (N or D) once or twice, passing the point of resistance if necessary.For example, to change from P to R (with your foot on the brake pedal), either push forwards twice without passing the point of resistance or push just once, passing the point of resistance.
Regenerative braking
With the Brake function and when decelerating
The Brake function emulates engine braking, slowing the vehicle with no need to depress the brake pedal. The vehicle slows more quickly when the driver releases the accelerator pedal.The energy recovered when the accelerator pedal is released is then used to partially recharge the traction battery, thereby increasing the vehicle's driving range.

The resulting deceleration of the vehicle does not cause the brake lamps to come on.
► From mode D, press button B to activate/deactivate the function (the button lights up when
the function is activated).D on the instrument panel is replaced with B.The system status is saved when the ignition is switched off.

Energy economy mode
System which manages the duration of use of certain functions to conserve a sufficient level of charge in the battery.After switching off the engine and for a maximum cumulative period of around 40 minutes, you can continue to use functions such as the audio and telematics system, the wipers, the dipped beam
headlamps, the courtesy lamps, etc.
Switching to the mode
A message indicating that the vehicle has switched to economy mode is displayed on the instrument panel screen and the active functions are put on standby.
NOTIC E
If a telephone call is in progress at the time, it will be maintained for around 10 minutes using your audio system’s hands-free system.
Exiting the mode
These functions will be automatically reactivated the next time the vehicle is used.In order to restore the use of these functions immediately, start the engine and let it run:– for less than 10 minutes, to use the equipment for approximately 5 minutes,– for more than 10 minutes, to use the equipment for approximately 30 minutes.
Let the engine run for the duration specified to ensure that the battery charge is sufficient.Do not repeatedly and continuously restart the engine in order to charge the battery.

A flat battery prevents the engine from starting.For more information on the 12 V battery, refer to the corresponding section.
Load reduction mode
System that manages the use of certain functions according to the level of charge remaining in the battery.When the vehicle is being driven, the load reduction function temporarily deactivates certain
functions, such as the air conditioning and the heated rear screen.The deactivated functions are reactivated automatically as soon as conditions permit.
Snow chains
In wintry conditions, snow chains improve traction as well as the behaviour of the vehicle when braking.

The snow chains must be fitted only to the front wheels. They must never be fitted to "space-saver" type spare wheels.
NOTIC E
Take account of the legislation specific to each country on the use of snow chains and the maximum authorised speed.
Only use chains that have been designed for the type of wheel fitted to your vehicle.
