When trouble arises
*1: This light illuminates on the multi-information display.
*2: Parking brake engaged warning buzzer:A buzzer will sound if the vehicle is driven at a speed of appr oximately 3
mph (5 km/h) or more.
*3: Driver’s seat belt warning buzzer:
The driver’s seat belt warning buzzer sounds to alert the drive r that his or
her seat belt is not fastened. Once the power switch is turned to ON mode,
the buzzer sounds. If the seat belt is still unfastened, the bu zzer sounds
intermittently for a certain period of time after the vehicle r eaches a certain
speed.
Front passenger’s seat belt warning buzzer:
The front passenger’s seat belt warning buzzer sounds to alert the front
passenger that his or her seat belt is not fastened. If the sea t belt is unfas-
tened, the buzzer sounds intermittently for a certain period of time after the
vehicle reaches a certain speed.
*4: Rear passengers’ seat belt warning buzzer:
The rear passengers’ seat belt warning buzzer sounds to alert t he rear
passenger that his or her seat belt is not fastened. If the sea t belt is unfas-
tened, the buzzer sounds intermittently for a certain period of time, after
the seat belt is fastened and unfastened and the vehicle reache s a certain
speed.
Master warning light
A buzzer sounds and the warning light comes on and
flashes to indicate that the master warning system has
detected a malfunction.

Tire pressure warning light
Indicates the following:
• Low tire pressure due to flat tire;
• Low tire pressure due to natural causes; or
• The tire pressure warning system is malfunctioning
 Immediately stop the veh icle in a safe place.

■If both the ABS and the brake system warning lights remain on
Stop your vehicle in a safe place immediately and contact your Toyota
dealer. The vehicle will become extremely unstable during braki ng, and the
ABS system may fail, which could cause an accident resulting in death or
serious injury.
■ When the electric power steering system warning light comes on
When the light comes on yellow, the assist to the power steerin g is
restricted. When the light comes on red, the assist to the power steering is
lost and handling operations of the steering wheel become extre mely
heavy.
If the steering wheel becomes heavier than usual when operating, hold
firmly and operate using more force than usual.

If the tire pressure warning light comes on
Be sure to observe the following precautions. Failure to do so could
cause a loss of vehicle control and result in death or serious injury.
●Stop your vehicle in a safe place as soon as possible. Adjust the tire
inflation pressure immediately.
●If the tire pressure warning light comes on even after tire inf lation pres-
sure adjustment, it is probable that you have a flat tire. Chec k the tires.
If a tire is flat, change it with the spare tire and have the flat tire
repaired by the nearest Toyota dealer.
●Avoid abrupt maneuvering and braking. If the vehicle tires dete riorate,
you could lose control of the steering wheel or the brakes.
■If a blowout or sudden air leakage should occur
The tire pressure warning system may not activate immediately.

■Warning messages
The warning messages explained below may differ from the actual messages
according to operation conditions and vehicle specifications.
■ System warning lights
The master warning light does not come on or flash in the following cases.
Instead, a separate system warning light will come on along wit h a message
shown on the multi-information display.
● Malfunction in the ABS
The ABS warning light comes on. ( P. 498)
● Malfunction in the brake system
The brake system warning light (yellow) comes on. ( P. 497)
● Malfunction in the tire pressure warning system
The tire pressure warning light comes on. ( P. 501)
● Remaining fuel level is low
The low fuel level warning light comes on. ( P. 500)
■ If a message instructing to refer to the Owner’s Manual is disp layed
● If the following messages are shown, there may be a malfunction .
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact your T oyota dealer.
Continuing to drive the vehicle may be dangerous.
• “Low Braking Power Stop in a Safe Place See Owner’s Manual”
• “Oil Pressure Low Stop in a Safe Place See Owner’s Manual”

■If “Hybrid System Overheated Output Power Reduced” is shown
This message may be displayed when driving under severe operati ng condi-
tions. (For example, when driving up a long steep hill.)
Handling method: P. 537
■ If “Maintenance Required for Traction Battery Cooling Parts See Owner’s
Manual” is shown
The filter may be clogged, the air intake vent may be blocked or there may be
a gap in the duct.
● If the air intake vent or filter is dirty, refer to P. 465 for cleaning the air intake
vent and filter.
● If the message is being displayed and the air intake vent and f ilter are not
dirty, have the vehicle inspected at your Toyota dealer.
■ If “Traction Battery Needs to Be Protected. Refrain from the Us e of N
Position.” is shown
This message may be displayed when the shift lever is in N.
As the hybrid battery (traction battery) cannot be charged when the shift lever
is in N, shift the shift lever to P when the vehicle is stopped .
■ If “Traction Battery Needs to Be Protected. Shift into P to Res tart.” is
shown
This message is displayed when the hybrid battery (traction battery) charge
has become extremely low because the shift lever has been left in N for a cer-
tain amount of time.
When operating the vehicle, shift to P and restart the hybrid s ystem.
■ If “Shift to P Before Exiting Vehicle” is shown
Message is displayed when the driver’s door is opened without t urning the
power switch off with the shift lever in any position other tha n P.
Shift the shift lever to P.
■ If “Shift Is in N Release Accelerat or Before Shifting” is shown
Message is displayed when the accelerator pedal has been depressed and
the shift lever is in N. Release the accelerator pedal and shif t the shift lever to
D or R.
■ If “Press Brake When Vehicle Is Stopped Hybrid System May Overh eat”
is shown
Message is displayed when the accelerator pedal is depressed to maintain
the vehicle position when stopped on a upward slope, etc.
If this continues, the hybrid system may overheat.
Release the accelerator pedal and depress the brake pedal.

●Stop the vehicle in a safe place on a hard, flat surface.
● Set the parking brake.
● Shift the shift lever to P.
● Stop the hybrid system.
● Turn on the emergency flashers. ( P. 490)
If you have a flat tire
Your vehicle is equipped with a spare tire. The flat tire can be
replaced with the spare tire.

WARNING
■If you have a flat tire
Do not continue driving with a flat tire.
Driving even a short distance wit h a flat tire can damage the tire and the
wheel beyond repair, which cou ld result in an accident.

WARNING
■Replacing a flat tire
●Do not touch the disc wheels or the area around the brakes immedi-
ately after the vehi cle has been driven.
After the vehicle has been driven the disc wheels and the area around
the brakes will be extremely hot. Touching these areas with han ds, feet
or other body parts while changin g a tire, etc. may result in burns.
●Failure to follow these precautions could cause the wheel nuts to
loosen and the t ire to fall off, resulting in death or serious injury.
• Have the wheel nuts tightened with a torque wrench to 76 ft•lbf (103 N•m, 10.5 kgf•m) as soon as possible after changing wheels.
• Do not attach a heavily damaged wheel ornament, as it may fly off
the wheel while the vehicle is moving.
• When installing a tire, only use wheel nuts that have been spe cifi-
cally designed for that wheel.
• If there are any cracks or defo rmations in the bolt screws, nut
threads or bolt holes of the wheel, have the vehicle inspected by
your Toyota dealer.
• When installing the wheel nuts, be sure to install them with t he
tapered ends facing inward.

WARNING
■When using the compact spare tire
●Remember that the compact spare tire provided is specifically
designed for use with your vehicle. Do not use your compact spare tire
on another vehicle.
●Do not use more than one compact spare tires simultaneously.
●Replace the compact spare tire with a standard tire as soon as possi-
ble.
●Avoid sudden acceleration, abrupt steering, sudden braking and shift-
ing operations that cause sudden engine braking.
■When the compact spa re tire is attached
The vehicle speed may not be co rrectly detected, and the following sys-
tems may not operate correctly:

■Speed limit when using the compact spare tire
Do not drive at speeds in excess of 50 mph (80 km/h) when a com pact
spare tire is installed on the vehicle.
The compact spare tire is not designed for driving at high spee ds. Fail-
ure to observe this precaution may lead to an accident causing death or
serious injury.
■After using the tools and jack
Before driving, make sure all t he tools and jack are securely i n place in
their storage location to reduce the possibility of personal in jury during a
collision or sudden braking.

One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
● The 12-volt battery may be discharged. ( P. 530)
● One or both of the 12-volt battery terminals may be disconnecte d.
(  P. 440)
Contact your Toyota dealer if the problem cannot be repaired, o r if repair
procedures are unknown.
When the hybrid system does not start, the following steps can be
used as an interim measure to sta rt the hybrid system if the power
switch is functioning normally.
Do not use this starting procedure except in case of emergency.
Set the parking brake.
Shift the shift lever to P.
Turn the power switch to ACCESSORY mode.
Press and hold the power switch for about 15 seconds while
depressing the brake pedal firmly.
Even if the hybrid system can be started using the above steps, the
system may be malfunctioning. Hav e the vehicle inspected by your
Toyota dealer.
The interior lights and headlights do not turn on, or the horn
does not sound.
