How to Disengage the AutomaticLocking Mode
Unbuckle the combination lap andshoulder belt and allow it to retractcompletely to disengage the automaticlocking mode and turn on the vehiclesensitive (emergency) locking mode.
SEATBELT HEIGHT
ADJUSTMENT
WARNING: Position the seatbeltheight adjuster so that the seatbelt restsacross the middle of your shoulder.Failure to adjust the seatbelt correctlycould reduce its effectiveness andincrease the risk of injury in a crash.
To adjust the shoulder belt height:
1. Pull the locking button and slide theheight adjuster up or down.
2. Release the button and pull down on theheight adjuster to make sure it is locked inplace.
SEATBELT REMINDER
WARNING: The system will onlyprovide protection when you use theseatbelt correctly.
This system monitors all seating positionsand provides audio and graphic feedback.
This lamp illuminates and awarning tone sounds if you donot fasten your seatbelt whenyou switch the ignition on. The lamp andtone turn off when you fasten your seatbeltor about one minute has elapsed.
When the initial warning expires for thedriver, more warnings are provided for thedriver and front passenger. This lampilluminates and a warning tone sounds ifyou or your front passenger do not fastenthe seatbelt buckle and the vehicle speedexceeds 6 mph (9.7 km/h). To deactivatethe warning, see Deactivating andActivating the Belt-Minder Feature.
Note:To avoid inadvertent warnings, donot place large objects on the seat.
This lamp illuminates when youswitch the ignition on, identifyingthe number of seating positionswith fastened buckles. It illuminates againwhen a seating position changes fromunfastened to fastened.

This warning displays and a tone soundsif an occupant unfastens the rear seatbeltbuckle or it becomes unfastened.
Note:If a rear seat is unoccupied, or anoccupant never fastens the seatbelt buckleto begin with, the warning will not display.
Note:Front seating positions appear in thiswarning display. Warnings for unfastenedfront seatbelt buckles appear in the initialwarning lamp.

Deactivating and Activating theSeatbelt Reminder (Front Seats Only)
WARNING: While the systemallows you to deactivate it, this systemis designed to improve your chances ofbeing safely belted and surviving anaccident. We recommend you leave thesystem activated for yourself and otherswho may use the vehicle.
Note:The driver and front passengerwarnings switch on and off independently.When you perform this procedure for oneseating position, do not buckle the otherposition as this terminates the process.
Read Steps 1 - 4 before starting theprocedure.
Make sure that:
•You set the parking brake.
•The transmission is in park (P).
•The ignition is off.
•You close all vehicle doors.
•You unbuckle the driver and frontpassenger seatbelts.
1.Switch the ignition on. Do not start theengine.
2.Wait until the seatbelt warning lampturns off (about one minute). AfterStep 2, wait an additional five secondsbefore proceeding with Step 3. Onceyou start Step 3, you must completethe procedure within 60 seconds.
3.For the seating position you areswitching off, buckle then unbuckle theseatbelt three times at a moderatespeed, ending in the unbuckled state.After Step 3, the seatbelt warning lampturns on.
4.When the seatbelt warning lamp is on,buckle then unbuckle the seatbelt.After Step 4, the seatbelt warning lampflashes for confirmation.

After all occupants have adjusted theirseats and put on seatbelts, it is veryimportant that they continue to sitproperly. Properly seated occupants situpright, lean against the seat back, andcenter themselves on the seat cushion,with their feet comfortably extended onthe floor. Sitting improperly can increasethe chance of injury in a crash event. Forexample, if an occupant slouches, liesdown, turns sideways, sits forward, leansforward or sideways, or puts one or bothfeet up, the chance of injury during a crashgreatly increases.
Children and Airbags
WARNING: Airbags can kill or injurea child in a child restraint. Never place arear-facing child restraint in front of anactive airbag. If you must use aforward-facing child restraint in the frontseat, move the seat upon which the childrestraint is installed all the way back.
Children must always be properlyrestrained. Accident statistics suggest thatchildren are safer when properly restrainedin the rear seating positions than in thefront seating position. Failure to followthese instructions may increase the risk ofinjury in a crash.
FRONT PASSENGER SENSING
SYSTEM
WARNING: Even with advancedrestraints systems, properly restrainchildren 12 and under in a rear seatingposition. Failure to follow this couldseriously increase the risk of injury ordeath.
WARNING: Sitting improperly, outof position or with the seatback reclinedtoo far can take weight off the seatcushion and affect the decision of thepassenger sensing system, resulting inserious injury or death in the event of acrash. Always sit upright against yourseat back, with your feet on the floor.
WARNING: Any alteration ormodification to the front passenger seatmay affect the performance of the frontpassenger sensing system. This couldseriously increase the risk of injury ordeath.
The front passenger sensing system usesa passenger airbag status indicator whichilluminates indicating that the frontpassenger frontal airbag is either on(enabled) or off (disabled). The indicatorlamp is in the center stack of theinstrument panel.
Note:When you first switch the ignition on,the passenger airbag status indicator offand on lamps illuminate for a short periodto confirm they are functional.

The design and development of the SafetyCanopy included recommended testingprocedures that were developed by agroup of automotive safety experts knownas the Side Airbag Technical WorkingGroup. These recommended testingprocedures help reduce the risk of injuriesrelated to the deployment of side airbags(including the Safety Canopy).
CRASH SENSORS AND
AIRBAG INDICATOR
WARNING: Modifying or addingequipment to the front of your vehiclecould affect the performance of theairbag system, increasing the risk ofinjury. This includes the hood, bumpersystem, frame, front body structure, towhooks, hood pins, push bar andsnowplows.
Your vehicle has a collection of crash andoccupant sensors which provideinformation to the restraints controlmodule. The restraints control moduledeploys (activates) the front and rearseatbelt pretensioners, driver airbag,passenger airbag, seat mounted sideairbags and the Safety Canopy. Based onthe type of crash, the restraints controlmodule deploys the appropriate safetydevices.
The restraints control module alsomonitors the readiness of the above safetydevices plus the crash and occupantsensors. The readiness of the safetysystem is indicated by a warning indicatorlight in the instrument cluster or by abackup tone if the warning light is notworking. Routine maintenance of theairbag is not required.
A difficulty with the system is indicated byone or more of the following:
The readiness light will notilluminate immediately after youswitch the ignition on.
•The readiness light either flashes orstays lit.
•A series of five beeps is heard. The tonepattern repeats periodically until theproblem, the light or both are repaired.
If any of these things happen, evenintermittently, have the supplementalrestraint system serviced at an authorizeddealer immediately. Unless serviced, thesystem may not function properly in theevent of a crash.
The seatbelt pretensioners and the frontairbag supplemental restraint system aredesigned to activate when the vehiclesustains frontal deceleration sufficient tocause the restraints control module todeploy a safety device.
The fact that the seatbelt pretensionersor front airbags did not activate for alloccupants in a crash does not mean thatsomething is wrong with the system.Rather, it means the restraints controlmodule determined the accidentconditions (crash severity, belt usage)were not appropriate to activate thesesafety devices.
•The design of the front airbags is toactivate only in frontal and near-frontalcrashes (not rollovers, side impacts orrear impacts) unless the crash causessufficient frontal deceleration.
•The design of the seatbeltpretensioners is to activate in frontal,near-frontal and side crashes and inrollovers.

RADIO FREQUENCIES

WARNING: Changes ormodifications not expressively approvedby the party responsible for compliancecould void the user's authority to operatethe equipment. The term "IC:" before theradio certification number only signifiesthat Industry Canada technicalspecifications were met.
The typical operating range for yourtransmitter is approximately 33 ft (10 m).Vehicles with the remote start feature willhave a greater range.
One of the following could cause adecrease in operating range:
•Weather conditions.
•Nearby radio towers.
•Structures around the vehicle.
•Other vehicles parked next to yourvehicle.
The radio frequency used by your remotecontrol can also be used by other radiotransmitters, for example amateur radios,medical equipment, wireless headphones,wireless remote controls, cell phones,battery chargers and alarm systems. If thefrequencies are jammed, you will not beable to use your remote control. You canlock and unlock the doors with the key.
Note:Make sure to lock your vehicle beforeleaving it unattended.
Note:If you are in range, the remote controlwill operate if you press any buttonunintentionally.
Note:The remote control contains sensitiveelectrical components. Exposure to moistureor impact may cause permanent damage.
Intelligent Access (If Equipped)
The system uses a radio frequency signalto communicate with your vehicle andauthorize your vehicle to unlock when oneof the following conditions are met:
•You activate the front exterior doorhandle switch.
•You press the luggage compartmentbutton.
•You press a button on the transmitter.
If excessive radio frequency interferenceis present in the area or if the transmitterbattery is low, you may need tomechanically unlock your door. You canuse the mechanical key blade in yourintelligent access key to open the driverdoor in this situation. See RemoteControl (page 52).
REMOTE CONTROL
Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (If
Equipped)
Use the key blade to start your vehicle andunlock or lock the driver door from outsideyour vehicle. The integrated keyheadtransmitter functions as a programmedignition key that operates all the locks andstarts your vehicle, as well as a remotecontrol.

2.Twist a thin coin under the tab hiddenbehind the key blade head to removethe battery cover.
3.Insert a suitable tool, for example ascrewdriver, in the position shown andcarefully remove the battery.
4.Install a new battery with the + facingupward.
5.Reinstall the battery housing coveronto the remote control and install thekey blade.
Car Finder
Press the button twice withinthree seconds. The horn soundsand the direction indicatorsflash.
Sounding a Panic Alarm (If Equipped)
Note:The panic alarm only operates whenthe ignition is off.
Press the button to activate thealarm. Press the button again orswitch the ignition on todeactivate.
