WHAT IS START IN GEAR
Crank in gear allows the driver to restartthe engine and launch the vehicle afterstalling in four-wheel drive low (4L). Usethe instrument cluster display to direct youwhen to apply the brake and push the startbutton. While driving off road, it is possibleto stall the engine trying to maneuverterrains. Trying to restart your vehicle byusing the clutch or shifting into neutral torestart the engine can be difficult andcause potential roll back situations whendriving uphill.
Note:Crank in gear is an alternate namefor the feature.
START IN GEAR
PRECAUTIONS
Always press the brake pedal whenstarting the vehicle to prevent unwantedvehicle movement, and release afterstarting to drive away. Start in gear is onlypossible with the brake pedal pressed.
START IN GEAR LIMITATIONS
You can only use start in gear in four-wheeldrive low (4L).
USING START IN GEAR
When driving difficult terrains in four-wheeldrive low (4L), it is possible to stall theengine when your vehicle is not able tomaintain speed. To easily start the engineand launch your vehicle, perform thefollowing steps:
1.After the vehicle stalls an informationmessage displays in the cluster,Tostart in gear select YES and pressOK.
2.Firmly press the brake pedal when ingear and press and hold the Startbutton.
3.When the engine starts and yourvehicle begins to move, release thebrake pedal.

MANUAL TRANSMISSION
PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Always set the parkingbrake fully and make sure you shift thegearshift lever to first gear. Switch theignition off and remove the key wheneveryou leave your vehicle.
Failure to fully press the clutch pedal tothe floor may cause increased shift efforts, premature wear to transmissioncomponents or damage the transmission.
Do not drive with your foot resting on theclutch pedal or use the clutch pedal to holdyour vehicle at a standstill when waitingon a hill. These actions reduce the life ofthe clutch and could nullify a clutchwarranty claim.
SHIFTING INTO REVERSE
Reverse (R)
1.Press the clutch pedal to the floor todisengage clutch.
2.Shift into reverse (R) by raising thecollar below the gearshift knob up, thenmoving the lever fully to the left, thenforward.
Note:You can only move the gearshift leverto reverse (R) by raising the collar below thegearshift knob up before shifting to reverse. This is a lockout feature which protects thetransmission from accidentally engagingreverse (R) when intending to select first(1).
If reverse (R) is not fully engaged press theclutch pedal, return the gearshift to theneutral position, then release the clutchpedal. Re-apply the clutch pedal, then liftthe gearshift collar and shift into reverse(R) again.
Note:Do not move the transmissionselector lever to reverse (R) gear when yourvehicle is moving. This can cause damageto the transmission.
Note:Make sure that your vehicle is at acomplete stop before you shift into reverse(R). Failure to do so could damage thetransmission.
CRAWLER GEAR
WHAT IS CRAWLER GEAR
Allows you to cruise at ultra low speedswith the clutch fully engaged, when drivingthrough obstacles and jagged terrain.
USING CRAWLER GEAR
Crawler (C)
Shifting into crawler gear:
1.Press the clutch pedal to the floor todisengage clutch.
2.Shift into crawler (C) by raising thecollar below the gearshift knob up, thenmoving the lever fully to the left, thenbackward.

Note:You can only move the gearshift leverto crawler (C) by raising the collar belowthe gearshift knob up before shifting tocrawler. This is a lockout feature whichprotects the transmission from accidentallyengaging crawler (C) when intending toselect second (2).
If crawler (C) is not fully engaged press theclutch pedal down, return the gearshift tothe neutral position, then release the clutchpedal. Re-apply the clutch pedal, then liftthe gearshift collar and shift into crawler(C) again.
The crawler gear enables an easier start inunusual conditions or terrain. You shouldchange up to first (1) when possible andrefrain from using crawler (C) at highengine speeds as transmission damagecould result. See Manual TransmissionPrecautions (page 186).
In normal use, make sure your vehicle isstationary before selecting crawler (C) asit is primarily a starting gear. If you changedown to crawler (C) from first (1) while thevehicle is moving, make sure the enginespeed is below 1500 rpm, and that theclutch pedal is fully pressed for a smoothtransition to crawler gear.
RECOMMENDED SHIFT
SPEEDS
Recommended Shift Speeds
For best fuel efficiency when driving yourvehicle, shift to the next gear by 3000RPM.
Shifting at a higher RPM such as3000-6000 RPM can increase theperformance capabilities of the vehicle. However, higher engine and transmissionspeeds can increase wear and reduce fueleconomy.
When downshifting your vehicle, alwaysshift at the lowest engine RPM possible tomatch your driving conditions. This isusually under 2000 RPM for all forwardgears, except for downshifting into thecrawler (C) gear which you should dobelow 1500 RPM. See ManualTransmission Precautions (page 186).
Note:Always fully depress the clutch pedalbetween gear shifts.
