happens, press the end of
the turn signal lever when
the exterior lamp control is
in the AUTO or
2position to
reactivate the IntelliBeam
system. The instrument
cluster light will come on to
indicate the IntelliBeam
system is reactivated.
The high beams may not turn
off automatically if the system
cannot detect another
vehicle's lamps because of any
of the following:
.The other vehicle's lamps
are missing, damaged,
obstructed from view,
or otherwise undetected.
.The other vehicle's lamps
are covered with dirt, snow,
and/or road spray.
.The other vehicle's lamps
cannot be detected due to
dense exhaust, smoke, fog,
snow, road spray, mist,
or other airborne
obstructions.
.The vehicle's windshield is
dirty, cracked, or obstructed
by something that blocks the
view of the light sensor.
.The vehicle is loaded such
that the front end points
upward, causing the light
sensor to aim high and not
detect headlamps and
taillamps.
.The vehicle is being driven
on winding or hilly roads.
The automatic high-beam
headlamps may need to be
disabled if any of the above
conditions exist.
Exterior Lamps Off
Reminder
A warning chime sounds if the
driver door is opened while
the ignition is off and the
exterior lamps are on.
Headlamp High/
Low-Beam Changer
3: Push the turn signal lever
away from you and release, to
turn the high beams on. To
return to low beams, push the
lever again or pull it toward
you and release.
This indicator light turns on in
the instrument cluster when
the high-beam headlamps
are on.
Flash-to-Pass
To flash the high beams, pull
the turn signal lever toward
you, and release.

Daytime Running
Lamps (DRL)
DRL can make it easier for
others to see the front of your
vehicle during the day. Fully
functional DRL are required on
all vehicles first sold in
Canada.
The dedicated DRL will come
on when all of the following
conditions are met:
.The ignition is on.
.The exterior lamp control is
in AUTO.
.The light sensor determines
it is daytime.
.The parking brake is
released or the vehicle is not
in P (Park).
When the DRL are on, the
taillamps, sidemarker lamps,
and other lamps will not be on.
The DRL turn off when the
headlamps are turned to
Oor
the ignition is off. For vehicles first sold in Canada, the DRL
can only be turned off when
the vehicle is parked.
Automatic Headlamp
System
When the exterior lamp
control is set to AUTO and it is
dark enough outside, the
headlamps come on
automatically.
There is a light sensor on top
of the instrument panel. Do
not cover the sensor.
The system may also turn on
the headlamps when driving
through a parking garage or
tunnel.
If the vehicle is started in a
dark garage, the automatic
headlamp system comes on
immediately. If it is light
outside when the vehicle
leaves the garage, there is a
slight delay before the
automatic headlamp system
changes to the Daytime
Running Lamps (DRL). During
that delay, the instrument
cluster may not be as bright as
usual. Make sure the
instrument panel brightness
control is in the full bright
position. See Instrument Panel
Illumination Control

When it is bright enough
outside, the headlamps will
turn off or may change
to DRL.
The automatic headlamp
system turns off when the
exterior lamp control is turned
to
Oor the ignition is off.

For vehicles sold in Canada,
this control only works when
the transmission is in P (Park).
Lights On with Wipers
If the windshield wipers are
activated in daylight with the
engine on, and the exterior
lamp control is in AUTO, the
headlamps, parking lamps, and
other exterior lamps come on.
The transition time for the
lamps coming on varies based
on wiper speed. When the
wipers are not operating,
these lamps turn off. Move the
exterior lamp control to
Oor
;to disable this feature.
Hazard Warning
Flashers
|:Touch|on the center
stack to make the front and
rear turn signal lamps flash on
and off. Touch again to turn
the flashers off.
The hazard warning flashers
turn on automatically if the
airbags deploy.
Turn and
Lane-Change Signals
Move the lever all the way up
or down to signal a turn.
An arrow on the instrument
cluster flashes in the direction
of the turn or lane change.
Raise or lower the lever until
the arrow starts to flash to
signal a lane change. Hold it
there until the lane change is
completed. If the lever is
briefly pressed and released,
the turn signal flashes three
times.
The turn and lane-change
signal can be turned off
manually by moving the lever
back to its original position.

If after signaling a turn or lane
change, the arrow flashes
rapidly or does not come on, a
signal bulb may be burned out.
Cornering Lamps
Cornering lamps automatically
come on when all of the
following occur:
.The low-beam headlamps
are on.
.The turn signals are
activated or the steering
wheel is turned 50 degrees
in either directon.
.The vehicle speed is below
40 km/h (25 mph).
Interior Lighting
Instrument Panel
Illumination Control
This feature adjusts the
brightness of all illuminated
controls. This feature is on the
left side of the instrument
panel.
D:Move the thumbwheel up
or down to brighten or dim the
lights. The thumbwheel is functional
at night, or when the
headlamps or parking lamps
are ON.
Courtesy Lamps
The courtesy lamps come on
when any door is opened,
Kon
the remote key is pressed,
or when the vehicle is turned
off. See Dome Lamps 0161.
Dome Lamps
The dome lamp controls are in
the overhead console.

This feature can be changed.
On the infotainment home
page, select the Settings icon

Lights.
Exit Lighting
Some exterior lamps and
interior lamps turn on when
the driver door is opened after
the vehicle is turned off.
The exterior and interior lamps
remain on for a set amount of
time, then automatically
turn off.
The interior lights turn on
when the vehicle is turned off.
The exterior lamps turn off
immediately by turning the
exterior lamp control off.
This feature can be changed.
On the infotainment home
screen, select the Settings
icon
TVehicleTExit Lighting.
Battery Power
Protection
This feature helps prevent the
battery from being drained,
if the interior courtesy lamps
or reading lamps are
accidentally left on. If any of
these lamps are left on, they
automatically turn off after
10 minutes, if the ignition is off.
The lamps will not come back
on again until one of the
following occurs:
.The ignition is turned on.
.The doors are closed and
then re-opened.
Exterior Lighting
Battery Saver
The exterior lamps turn off
about 10 minutes after the
vehicle is turned off, if the
parking lamps or headlamps
have been manually left on.
This protects against draining
the battery. To restart the
10-minute timer, turn the exterior lamp control to the
O
position and then back to the
;or2position.
To keep the lamps on for more
than 10 minutes, the vehicle
must be on or in
accessory mode.

.Keep cargo in the cargo
area as far forward and as
low as possible. The
heaviest things should be
on the floor, forward of
the rear axle.
.Heavy loads on the roof
raise the vehicle's center
of gravity, making it more
likely to roll over. You can
be seriously or fatally
injured if the vehicle rolls
over. Put heavy loads
inside the cargo area, not
on the roof.

Environmental Concerns
.Always use established
trails, roads, and areas that
have been set aside for
public off-road recreational
driving and obey all posted
regulations.
.Do not damage shrubs,
flowers, trees, or grasses or
disturb wildlife.
.Do not park over things that
burn. See Parking over
Things That Burn 0264.
Driving on Hills
Driving safely on hills requires
good judgment and an
understanding of what the
vehicle can and cannot do.
{Warning
Many hills are simply too
steep for any vehicle. Driving
up hills can cause the vehicle
to stall. Driving down hills
can cause loss of control.
Driving across hills can
cause a rollover. You could
be injured or killed. Do not
drive on steep hills.
Before driving on a hill, assess
the steepness, traction, and
obstructions. If the terrain ahead cannot be seen, get out
of the vehicle and walk the hill
before driving further.
When driving on hills:
.Use a low gear and keep a
firm grip on the steering
wheel.
.Maintain a slow speed.
.When possible, drive straight
up or down the hill.
.Slow down when
approaching the top of
the hill.
{Warning
Driving to the top of a hill at
high speed can cause a
crash. There could be a
drop-off, embankment, cliff,
or even another vehicle. You
could be seriously injured or
killed. As you near the top of
a hill, slow down and stay
alert.
.Use headlamps even during
the day to make the vehicle
more visible.

If the vehicle is stuck
in snow:
.Clear snow from the base
of the vehicle, especially
any blocking the
exhaust pipe.
.Open a window about
5 cm (2 in) on the vehicle
side that is away from the
wind, to bring in fresh air.
.Fully open the air outlets
on or under the
instrument panel.
.Adjust the climate control
system to circulate the air
inside the vehicle and set
the fan speed to the
highest setting. See
“Climate Control Systems.”

To save fuel, run the engine
for short periods to warm the
vehicle and then shut the engine off and partially close
the window. Moving about to
keep warm also helps.
If it takes time for help to
arrive, when running the
engine, push the accelerator
pedal slightly so the engine
runs faster than the idle
speed. This keeps the battery
charged to restart the vehicle
and to signal for help with the
headlamps. Do this as little as
possible, to save fuel.
If the Vehicle Is Stuck
Slowly and cautiously spin the
wheels to free the vehicle
when stuck in sand, mud, ice,
or snow.
The Traction Control System
(TCS) can often help to free a
stuck vehicle. See Traction
Control/Electronic Stability
Control
0276.
If TCS cannot free the vehicle,
turn TCS off and use the
rocking method. See “Rocking
the Vehicle to Get it Out”
following.
{Warning
If the vehicle's tires spin at
high speed, they can
explode, and you or others
could be injured. The vehicle
can overheat, causing an
engine compartment fire or
other damage. Spin the
wheels as little as possible
and avoid going above
56 km/h (35 mph).
Rocking the Vehicle to Get
it Out
Turn the steering wheel left
and right to clear the area
around the front wheels. Turn
off any traction system. Shift
back and forth between
R (Reverse) and a low forward
gear, spinning the wheels as
little as possible. To prevent
transmission wear, wait until
the wheels stop spinning
before shifting gears. Release
the accelerator pedal while
shifting, and press lightly on
the accelerator pedal when

Accessory Installations and
Vehicle Modifications
Do not install or place any
object around the front
camera windshield area that
would obstruct the front
camera view.
Do not install objects on top of
the vehicle that overhang and
obstruct the front camera,
such as a canoe, kayak,
or other items that can be
transported on a roof rack
system. See Roof Rack
System0114.
Do not modify the hood,
headlamps, or fog lamps, as
this may limit the camera’s
ability to detect an object.
Cleaning the Sensing System
The camera sensor on the
windshield behind the
rearview mirror can become
blocked by snow, ice, dirt, mud,
or debris. This area needs to
be cleaned for ACC to operate
properly. The vehicle headlamps may
need to be cleaned due to dirt,
snow, or ice. Objects that are
not illuminated correctly may
be difficult to detect.
If ACC will not operate, regular
cruise control may be
available. See
“Switching
Between ACC and Regular
Cruise Control” previously in
this section. Always consider
driving conditions before using
either cruise control system.

Super Cruise
If equipped, Super Cruise can
steer to maintain lane position
under certain conditions on
compatible highways that are
separated from opposing
traffic.
{Warning
Super Cruise can only assist
to maintain lane position
when driving on compatible
highways. You must
supervise the driving task
and monitor the freeway
conditions. You may need to
respond to traffic events by
steering, braking,
or accelerating. See
Defensive Driving 0240.
Super Cruise is:
.Not a self-driving system.
.Not a crash avoidance or
warning system.
.Not a substitute for
proper supervision of the
driving task.
Super Cruise uses the
following to detect the current
lane position and lane
markings ahead on compatible
highways under certain
conditions:
