the TRAC/VSC/Trailer Sway Con-
trol systems are operating.
If the vehicle gets stuck in mud, dirt or snow, the TRAC system may
reduce power from the engi ne to the wheels. Pressing
to turn the
system off may make it easier for you to rock the vehicle in or der to
free it.
2WD models and 2WD mode on 4WD models
To turn the TRAC system off,

“4H” mode on 4WD models
To turn the TRAC system off,

transfer mode is “4H” mode and
the center differ ential is unlocked.

2WD models and “2WD” mode on 4WD models
To turn the TRAC, VSC and Trailer Sway Control systems off, sto p the vehicle
completely, and press and hold for more than 3 seconds when AU TO
LSD system is on. ( P. 322)
The “TRAC OFF” indicator light and the VSC off indicator light will come on

Press again to turn the systems back on.
“4H” mode on 4WD models and “4L” mode on 4WD models
To turn the TRAC, VSC and Trailer Sway Control systems off, pre ss and hold
for more than 3 seconds while the vehicle is stopped.
The “TRAC OFF” indicator light and the VSC off indicator light will come on

Press again to turn the systems back on.
*: Pre-collision brake assist and pre-collision braking will als o be disabled.
The pre-collision system warning light will come on and the mes sage will be
shown on the multi-information display. ( P. 255)

If your vehicle needs to be towed
If towing is necessary, we recommend having your vehicle
towed by your Toyota dealer or commercial towing service,
using a wheel-lift type t ruck or flatbed truck.
Use a safety chain system for all towing, and abide by all stat e/
provincial and local laws.
If towing your vehicle with a wheel-lift type truck from the fr ont,
the vehicle's rear wheels and axles must be in good conditions.

If they are damaged, use a towing dolly or flatbed truck.

Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
■ When towing the vehicle
2WD models: Be sure to transport the
vehicle with all four wheels raised off the
ground. If the vehicle is towed with the
tires contacting the ground, the drivetrain
and related parts may be damaged or an
accident may occur due to a change in
direction of the vehicle.
4WD models: Be sure to transport the
vehicle with all four wheels raised off the
ground. If the vehicle is towed with the
tires contacting the ground, the drivetrain
or related parts may be damaged, the
vehicle may fly off the truck.

If a tow truck is not available in an emergency, your vehicle may be
temporarily towed using cables or chains secured to the emergen cy
towing eyelets. This should only be attempted on hard surfaced roads
for at most 50 miles (80 km) at under 18 mph (30 km/h).
A driver must be in the vehicle to steer and operate the brakes . The
vehicle’s wheels, drive train, a xles, steering and brakes must be in
good condition.
Securely attach cables or chains to the towing hooks.
Take care not to damage the vehicle body
Enter the vehicle being towed and start the engine.
If the engine does not start, turn the engine switch to ON.
4WD models:
Turn the four-wheel drive control switch to the “2WD” position.
Shift the shift lever to N and release the parking brake.
When the shift lever cannot be shifted: P. 2 2 3
■While towing
If the engine is not running, the power assist for the brakes a nd steering will
not function, making steering and braking more difficult.

WARNING
■When using the temporary spare tire
●Remember that your temporary spare tire is specifically designed for
use with your vehicle. Do not use your temporary spare tire on another
vehicle.
●Do not use two temporary sp are tires simultaneously.
●Replace the temporary spare tire with a standard tire as soon a s possi-
ble.
●Avoid sudden acceleration, deceleration and braking, as well as sharp
cornering.
■Speed limit when using th e temporary spare tire
Do not drive at speeds in excess of 50 mph (80 km/h) when a temporary
spare tire is installed on the vehicle.
The temporary spare tire is not designed for driving at high sp eeds. Fail-
ing to observe this precaution may lead to an accident causing death or
serious injury.
■When the temporary spare tire is attached
The vehicle speed may not be co rrectly detected, and the following sys-
tems may not operate correctly:
