inoperative. It would then be necessary to reset it.The remote control does not work when the key is in the ignition switch, even when the ignition is switched off.
WARNI NG
Anti-theft protectionDo not modify the electronic vehicle immobiliser, as this might result in malfunctions. For vehicles with a key ignition switch, remember to remove the key and turn the steering wheel to engage the steering lock.
WARNI NG
Locking the vehicleDriving with the doors locked could make it more difficult for the emergency services to enter the passenger compartment in an emergency. As a safety precaution, remove the key from the ignition or take the electronic key with you when leaving the vehicle, even for a short time.
NOTIC E
Purchasing a second-hand vehicleHave the key codes memorised by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer, to ensure that the keys in your possession are the only ones able to start the vehicle.
WARNI NG
To preserve the battery charge in the electronic key and the vehicle's battery, the "hands-free" functions are set to hibernation mode after 21 days without use. To restore these functions, press one of the remote control buttons or start the engine with the electronic key in the reader. For more information on starting with the Smart Entry & Start system, refer to the corresponding section.
NOTIC E
Electrical interferenceThe electronic key may not operate if close to certain electronic devices such as telephones (switched on or on standby) or laptop computers, strong magnetic fields, etc. If this happens, remove the electronic key from the electronic device.
WARNI NG
Accumulations (water, dust, grime, salt, etc.) on the inner surface of the door handle may affect detection. If cleaning the inner surface of the door handle using a cloth does not restore detection, contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.A sudden splash of water (stream of water, high pressure jet washer, etc.) may be identified by the system as the desire to open the vehicle.

98
A/C preconditioning
(Electric)
This function allows you to programme the temperature in the passenger compartment to reach a pre-defined, non-modifiable temperature (approx. 21°C) before you enter the vehicle, on the days and at the times of your choice. This function is available when the vehicle is
connected or not connected.
Programming

NOTIC E
To preserve the brakes while descending a steep incline, use engine braking to reduce your speed (change down or select a lower gear).Keeping the brake pedal pressed continuously for long periods can overheat the brakes, with the risk of damaging the
braking system or making it inoperative.Only use the brakes when necessary, to slow or stop the vehicle.
NOTIC E
Depending on the road configuration (e.g. mountainous road), manual operation may be preferable.Automatic operation may not always be suitable, and does not enable engine braking.
Invalid value during manual
operation
This symbol is displayed if a gear is not engaged correctly (gear selector between two positions).
► Place the selector "correctly" at a position.
Switching off the vehicle
Before switching off the engine, select position P then apply the parking brake to immobilise
the vehicle, unless this is set to automatic mode (with electric parking brake).Check that mode P has been engaged and that the electric parking brake has been applied automatically; if not, apply it manually. The corresponding indicator lamps in the selector and the electric parking brake control lever must be on, as well as those on the instrument panel.
NOTIC E
A point of resistance may be noticed when moving to position P.If the selector is not in position P, when the driver's door is opened or approximately 45 seconds after the ignition is switched off, an audible signal sounds and a message appears.► Return the drive selector to position P; the audible signal stops and the message disappears.
WARNI NG
When positioned on a steep slope with a loaded vehicle, depress the brake pedal, select position P, apply the parking brake, unless it is set to automatic mode (with electric parking brake), then release the brake pedal.
WARNI NG
In all circumstances, ensure that the selector is in position P before leaving your vehicle.
Malfunction
When the ignition is on, a message appears on the instrument panel to indicate a fault with the
gearbox. In this case, the gearbox goes into back-up mode and is locked in 3rd gear. You may feel a significant jolt (without risk to the gearbox) when changing from P to R and from N to R.Do not exceed 62 mph (100 km/h), local speed restrictions permitting.Have it checked by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
WARNI NG
There is a risk of damaging the gearbox:– If the accelerator and brake pedals are depressed simultaneously.– In the event of a battery failure, forcing the selector from position P to another position.
