data, such as:
• Engine speed/Electric motor speed (traction motor speed)
• Accelerator status
• Brake status
• Vehicle speed
• Operation status of the driving assist systems
• Images from the cameras
Your vehicle is equipped with cameras. Contact any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer for the loca-
tion of recording cameras.
• Hybrid battery (traction battery) status
The recorded data varies according to the vehicle grade level, options and
destinations with which it is equipped.
These computers do not record conversations or sounds, and only record
images outside of the vehicle in certain situations.
OData usage
Toyota may use the data recorded in this computer to diagnose malfunc-
tions, conduct research and development, and improve quality.
Toyota will not disclose the recorded data to a third party except:
• With the consent of the vehicle owner or with the consent of the lessee if
the vehicle is leased
• In response to an official request by the police, a court of law or a govern-
ment agency
• For use by Toyota in a lawsuit
• For research purposes where the data is not tied to a specific vehicle or
vehicle owner
ORecorded image information can be erased by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
The image recording function can be disabled. However, if the function is
disabled, data from when the system operates will not be available.
The SRS airbag and seat belt pretensioner devices in your Toyota contain
explosive chemicals. If the vehicle is scrapped with the airbags and seat belt
pretensioners left as they are, this may cause an accident such as fire. Be
sure to have the systems of the SRS airbag and seat belt pretensioner
removed and disposed of by a qualified service shop or by any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer, before
you scrap your vehicle.

Plug-in hybrid system precautions
The illustration is an example for explanation and may differ from the
actual item.
Take care when handling the hybrid system, as it contains a high
voltage system (about 600V at maximum) as well as parts that
become extremely hot when the hybrid system is operating.
Obey the caution labels attached to the vehicle.

QIf a warning light comes on, a warning message is displayed or the 12-
volt battery is disconnected
The hybrid system may not start. In that case, try to start the system again. If
the “READY” indicator does not come on, contact any authorized To y o t a
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
QRunning out of fuel
When the vehicle has run out of fuel and the hybrid system cannot be started,
refuel the vehicle with at least enough gasoline to make the low fuel level
warning light (P. 660) go off. If there is only a small amount of fuel, the
hybrid system may not be able to start. (The standard amount of fuel is about
7.5 L [2.0 gal., 1.7 Imp.gal.], when the vehicle is on a level surface. This value
may vary when the vehicle is on a slope. Add extra fuel when the vehicle is
inclined.)
QElectromagnetic waves
OHigh voltage parts and cables on the hybrid vehicles incorporate electro-
magnetic shielding, and therefore emit approximately the same amount of
electromagnetic waves as conventional gasoline powered vehicles or home
electronic appliances.
OYour vehicle may cause sound interference in some third party-produced
radio parts.
QEffect of magnetic forces
If objects that generate strong magnetic forces, such as large speakers, are
placed inside the luggage compartment or installed nearby, the generated
magnetic forces may negatively affect the hybrid system.
QHybrid battery (traction battery) (lithium-ion battery)
The hybrid battery (traction battery) has a limited service life.
The hybrid battery (traction battery) capacity (the ability to hold a charge)
reduces with time and use in the same way as other rechargeable batteries.
The extent at which capacity reduces changes drastically depending on the
environment (ambient temperature, etc.) and usage conditions, such as how
the vehicle is driven and how the hybrid battery (traction battery) is charged.
This is a natural characteristic of lithium-ion batteries, and is not a malfunc-
tion. Also, even though the distance that can be driven in EV mode decreases
when the hybrid battery (traction battery) capacity reduces, vehicle perfor-
mance does not significantly become worse.
In order to reduce the possibility of the capacity reducing, follow the directions
listed on P. 152, “Capacity reduction of the hybrid battery (traction battery)”.
QStarting the hybrid system in an extremely cold environment
When the hybrid battery (traction battery) is extremely cold (below approxi-
mately -30C [-22F]) under the influence of the outside temperature, it may
not be possible to start the hybrid system. In this case, try to start the hybrid
system again after the temperature of the hybrid battery increases due to the
outside temperature increase etc.

Q High voltage precautions
The vehicle has high voltage DC and AC systems as well as a 12- volt sys-
tem. DC and AC high voltage is very dangerous and can cause sev ere
burns and electric shock that may result in death or serious in jury.
O Never touch, disassemble, remove or replace the high voltage parts,
cables or their connectors.
O The hybrid system will become hot after starting as the system uses high
voltage. Be careful of both the high voltage and the high tempe rature, and
always obey the caution labels attached to the vehicle.
O Never try to open the service plug

compartment. The service plug is used
only when the vehicle is serviced and is
subject to high voltage.

WARNING
QHybrid battery (traction battery)
O Your vehicle contains a sealed lithium-ion battery.
O Never resell, hand over or modify the hybrid battery. To prevent accidents,
hybrid batteries that have been removed from a disposed vehicle are col-
lected through any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authori zed repairer,
or any reliable repairer. Do not dispose of the battery yoursel f.
Unless the battery is properly collected, the following may occ ur, resulting
in death or serious injury:
• The hybrid battery may be illegally disposed of or dumped, and it is haz-
ardous to the environment or someone may touch a high voltage p art,
resulting in an electric shock.
• The hybrid battery is intended to be used exclusively with you r hybrid
vehicle. If the hybrid battery is used outside of your vehicle or modified
in any way, accidents such as electric shock, heat generation, smoke
generation, an explosion and electrolyte leakage may occur.
When reselling or handing over your vehicle, the possibility of an acci-
dent is extremely high because the person receiving the vehicle may
not be aware of these dangers.
O If your vehicle is disposed of without the hybrid battery having been
removed, there is a danger of serious electric shock if high vo ltage parts,
cables and their connectors are touched. In the event that your vehicle
must be disposed of, the hybrid battery must be disposed of by any autho-
rized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any rel iable repairer
or a qualified service shop. If the hybrid battery is not dispo sed of properly,
it may cause electric shock that can result in death or serious injury.

This product must be grounded. In case of malfunction or break down,
grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric curr ent to
reduce the risk of electric shock. This product is equipped wit h a
grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The grounding plug mu st
be plugged into an appropriate socket that is properly installe d and
grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
The CCID (Charging Circuit Interrupting Device) has the followi ng
safety features.
QElectrical leakage detection function
If an electrical leakage is detected during charging, the power
source will be automatically interrupted, thus preventing fires or
electrical shocks caused by electrical leakage.
If the power source is interrupted, the error warning indicator flashes.

QAutomatic check function
This is an automatic system check that is run before charging
begins to check for problems in the operation of the electrical leak-
age detection function.
If a malfunction is found in the electrical leakage detection f unction as a
result of the check, the error warning indicator flashes to inf orm the

QTemperature detection function
A temperature detection function is equipped to the plug. While
charging, if heat is generated due to looseness on the socket s ide
etc., this function suppresses heat by controlling the charging cur-
rent.
Grounding (Mode 2 charging cable)
WARNING
Q Grounding precautions
O Improper connection of the grounding conductor increases the risk of elec-
tric shock. Check with a qualified electrician or serviceman if you are in
doubt as to whether the product is properly grounded.
O Do not modify the grounding plug provided with the product. If it does not
fit the socket, have a proper socket installed by a qualified e lectrician.

Winter driving tips
OUse fluids that are appropriate to the prevailing outside tempera-
tures.
• Engine oil
• Engine/power control unit coolant
• Washer fluid
OHave a service technician inspect the condition of the 12-volt bat-
tery.
OHave the vehicle fitted with four snow tires or purchase a set of tire
chains for the front tires.
Ensure that all tires are the same size and brand, and that chains match
the size of the tires.
Perform the following according to the driving conditions:
ODo not try to forcibly open a window or move a wiper that is frozen.
Pour warm water over the frozen area to melt the ice. Wipe away
the water immediately to prevent it from freezing.
OTo ensure proper operation of the climate control system fan,
remove any snow that has accumulated on the air inlet vents in
front of the windshield.
OCheck for and remove any excess ice or snow that may have accu-
mulated on the exterior lights, vehicle’s roof, chassis, around the
tires or on the brakes.
ORemove any snow or mud from the bottom of your shoes before
getting in the vehicle.
Carry out the necessary preparations and inspections before
driving the vehicle in winter. Always drive the vehicle in a man-
ner appropriate to the prevailing weather conditions.
