NOTICE
QHybrid battery (traction battery) air vents
O Make sure not to block the air intake vent with anything, such as a seat
cover, plastic cover, or luggage. If the vents are blocked, the charging/dis-
charging of the hybrid battery (traction battery) may become li mited.
O When dust etc. has accumulated in the air intake vent, clean it with a vac-
uum cleaner to prevent the vent from clogging.
O Do not wet or allow foreign substances to enter the air vents as this may
cause a short circuit and damage the hybrid battery (traction b attery).
O Do not carry large amounts of water such as water cooler bottles in the
vehicle. If water spills onto the hybrid battery (traction batt ery), the battery
may be damaged. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized To yota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repaire r.
O A filter is installed to the air intake vent. When the filter remains noticeably
dirty even after cleaning the air intake vent, filter cleaning or replacement
is recommended. When cleaning the filter, refer to P. 573.
Q Notice about fuel
O For plug-in hybrid vehicles, fuel may remain in the tank for a long time and
undergo changes in quality depending on the how the vehicle is used.
Refuel at least 20 L (5.3 gal., 4.4 Imp.gal.) of fuel every 12 months (refuel
a total of at least 20 L [5.3 gal., 4.4 Imp.gal.] over a 12-mon th period), as
this may affect components of the fuel system or the gasoline e ngine.
O If the vehicle has not been refueled for a certain amount of time and it is
possible that the quality of the fuel remaining in the tank has changed, “No
new fuel has been added recently. Please refuel” is displayed o n the multi-
information display when the power switch is turned to ON mode. If the
message is displayed, refuel the vehicle immediately.

QIf “Exhaust Filter Full See Owner’s Manual” is shown on the multi-infor-
mation display
O The message may be displayed while high load driving with particulate mat-
ter accumulating.
O Hybrid system output (engine speed) is restricted when a certain amount of
particulate matter accumulates, however, it is possible to driv e the vehicle
unless the malfunction indicator lamp comes on.
O Particulate matter can accumulate more quickly if the vehicle is frequently
driven short trips or at low s peeds, or if the hybrid system is regularly started
in an extremely cold environment. Excessive accumulation of par ticulate
matter can be prevented by periodically driving long distances continuously
with intermittent releasing of the accelerator pedal, such as w hen driving on
highways and freeways.
Q If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on or “Exhaust Filter Full Visit
Your Dealer” is shown on the multi-information display
The amount of accumulated particulate matter has exceeded a cer tain level.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota autho-
rized repairer, or any reli able repairer immediately.
The GPF system collects particulate matter in the exhaust gas
by using an exhaust gas filter.
The system will operate to regenerate the filter automatically,
depending on the vehicle conditions.

is set to “ECO”
OIn the “ECO” mode, the air conditioning system is controlled as follows to
prioritize fuel efficiency:
• Engine speed and compressor operation controlled to restrict heating/
cooling capacity
• Fan speed restricted when automatic mode is selected
OTo improve air conditioning performance, perform the following operations:
• Adjust the fan speed
• Adjust the temperature setting
• Set the blower customization to “FAST” or “NORMAL” mode.
OWhen the driving mode is set to Eco driving mode, the fan speed setting
mode will be changed to “ECO” mode automatically. Even in this case, the
fan speed control mode can be changed by pressing . (P. 418)
QWhen the outside temperature falls to nearly 0C (32F)
The dehumidification function may not operate even when is pressed.
QVentilation and air conditioning odors
OTo let the fresh air in, set the air conditioning system to the outside air mode.
ODuring use, various odors from inside and outside the vehicle may enter into
and accumulate in the air conditioning system. This may then cause odor to
be emitted from the vents.
OIn order to suppress odors that occur when the air conditioning system
starts, fresh air is automatically taken in when parked.
OTo reduce potential odors from occurring, the start timing of the blower may
be delayed for a short period of time immediately after the air conditioning
system is started in automatic mode.

QCaring for leather areas
Toyota recommends cleaning the interior of the vehicle at least twice a year to
maintain the quality of the vehicle’s interior.
QShampooing the carpets
There are several commercial foaming-type cleaners available. Use a sponge
or brush to apply the foam. Rub in overlapping circles. Do not use water.
Wipe dirty surfaces and let them dry. Excellent results are obtained by keep-
ing the carpet as dry as possible.
QSeat belts
Clean with mild soap and lukewarm water using a cloth or sponge. Also
check the belts periodically for excessive wear, fraying or cuts.
QCleaning the air intake vents and filters
ODust on the air intake vents or filters may interferes cooling of the hybrid bat-
tery (traction battery) and results in poor electricity and fuel consumption.
Clean the air intake vents and filters periodically.
OIf continuing to drive the vehicle with “Maintenance Required for Traction
Battery Cooling Parts See Owner’s Manual” shown on the multi-information
display, the hybrid battery (traction battery) may overheat, leading to
decreasing in distance that can be driven using the electric motor. It may
cause poor electricity and fuel consumption or a malfunction. If the warning
message is shown, clean the air intake vents and filters immediately.
OImproper handling may result in damage to the grille or filters. If you have
any concerns about cleaning the filters, contact any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
OIf the warning message on the multi-information display does not disappear
after cleaning the filters, have the vehicle inspected by any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
OTiming of cleaning filters differs depending on the use environment of the
vehicle.
