O If a message or image about an open/close state of a part or replenishment
of a consumable is shown
Confirm the part indicated by the multi-information display or a warning light,
and then perform the coping method such as closing the open doo r or
replenishing a consumable.
Q If “See Owner’s Manual” is shown
O If “Braking Power Low Stop in a Safe Place See Owner’s Manual” is shown,
this may be a malfunction. Immediately stop the vehicle in a sa fe place and
contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized rep airer, or any
reliable repairer. Continuing to drive the vehicle may be dange rous.
O If “Engine Oil Pressure Low” is shown, this may be a malfunction. Immedi-
ately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact any authoriz ed Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repaire r.
O If the following messages are shown, there may be a malfunction. Immedi-
ately have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retai ler or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
• “Plug-in charging system malfunction.”
• “Hybrid System Malfunction”
• “Check Engine”
• “Hybrid Battery System Malfunction”
• “Accelerator System Malfunction”
• “Smart Entry & Start System Malfunction See Owner’s Manual”
O If “Exhaust Filter Full See Owner’s Manual” is shown on the multi-informa-

Q If “Shift System Not Active Apply Parking Brake Securely While Parking
See Owner’s Manual” is shown
Indicates a temporary operation failure or malfunction in the s hift control sys-
tem. Immediately have the vehicle inspected by any authorized T oyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repaire r.
When the message is shown, the hybrid system may not be started or the
shift position may not be changed normally. (Coping method: P. 672)
Q If “Shift System Malfunction Apply Parking Brake Securely While Park-
ing See Owner’s Manual” is shown
Indicates a malfunction in the shift control system. Immediatel y have the vehi-
cle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota autho rized repairer,
or any reliable repairer.
When the message is shown, the hybrid system may not be started or the

When trouble arises
QIf the tire is inflated to more than the specified air pressure
Disconnect the hose from the valve.
Disconnect the hose from the valve, remove the air release cap from the
hose and then reconnect the hose.
Turn the compressor switch on and wait for several seconds, and then turn
it off. Check that the air pressure indicator shows the specifi ed air pressure.

If the air pressure is under the designated pressure, turn the compressor
switch on again and repeat the inflation procedure until the sp ecified air
pressure is reached.
Q The valve of a tire that has been repaired
After a tire is repaired with the emergency tire puncture repai r kit, the valve
should be replaced.
Q After a tire is repaired with the emergency tire puncture repair kit (vehi-
cles with the tire pressure warning system)
O The tire pressure warning valve and transmitter should be replaced.
O Even if the tire inflation pressure is at the recommended level, the tire pres-
sure warning light may come on/flash.
Q Note for checking the emergency tire puncture repair kit
Check the sealant expiry date occasionally.
The expiry date is shown on the bottle. Do not use sealant whos e expiry date
has already passed. Otherwise, repairs conducted using the emer gency tire
puncture repair kit may not be performed properly.

QWhen removing the 12-volt battery terminals
Always remove the negative (-) terminal first. If the positive (+) terminal con-
tacts any metal in the surrounding area when the positive (+) t erminal is
removed, a spark may occur, leading to a fire in addition to el ectrical shocks
and death or serious injury.
Q Avoiding 12-volt battery fires or explosions
Observe the following precautions to prevent accidentally ignit ing the flam-
mable gas that may be emitted from the 12-volt battery:
O Make sure each jumper cable is connected to the correct terminal and that
it is not unintentionally in contact with any other than the in tended terminal.
O Do not allow the other end of the jumper cable connected to the “+” termi-
nal to come into contact with any other parts or metal surfaces in the area,
such as brackets or unpainted metal.
O Do not allow the + and - clamps of the jumper cables to come into contact
with each other.
O Do not smoke, use matches, cigarette lighters or allow open flame near
the 12-volt battery.
Q 12-volt battery precautions
The 12-volt battery contains poisonous and corrosive acidic ele ctrolyte,
while related parts contain lead and lead compounds. Observe th e following
precautions when handling the 12-volt battery:
O When working with the 12-volt battery, always wear safety glasses and
take care not to allow any battery fluids (acid) to come into c ontact with
skin, clothing or the vehicle body.
O Do not lean over the 12-volt battery.
O In the event that battery fluid comes into contact with the skin or eyes,
immediately wash the affected area with water and seek medical attention.
Place a wet sponge or cloth over the affected area until medica l attention
can be received.
O Always wash your hands after handling the 12-volt battery support, termi-
nals, and other battery-related parts.
O Do not allow children near the 12-volt battery.

When trouble arises
If your vehicle overheats
QIf the high coolant temperature warning light comes on or
flashes
Stop the vehicle in a safe place and turn off the air condition ing
system, and then stop the hybrid system.
If you see steam:
Carefully lift the hood after the steam subsides.
If you do not see steam:
Carefully lift the hood.
After the hybrid system has cooled down sufficiently, inspect t he
hoses and radiator core (radiator) for any leaks.

If a large amount of coolant
leaks, immediately contact
any authorized Toyota retailer
or Toyota authorized repairer,
or any reliable repairer.
The following may indicate that your vehicle is overheating.
O The high coolant temperature warning light (P. 659) comes on
or flashes, or a loss of hybrid system power is experienced. (F or
example, the vehicle speed does not increase.)
O “Hybrid System Overheated” is shown on the multi-information
display.
O Steam comes out from under the hood.
