QUsing automatic mode
Fan speed is adjusted automatically according to the temperature setting and
the ambient conditions.
Therefore, the fan may stop for a while until warm or cool air is ready to flow
immediately after is pressed.
Q Fogging up of the windows
O The windows will easily fog up when the humidity in the vehicle is high.
Turning on will dehumidify the air from the outlets and defog the wind-
shield effectively.
O If you turn off, the windows may fog up more easily.
O The windows may fog up if the recirculated air mode is used.
Q When driving on dusty roads
Close all windows. If dust thrown up by the vehicle is still drawn into the vehi-
cle after closing the windows, it is recommended that the air intake mode be
set to outside air mode and the fan speed to any setting except off.
Q Outside/recirculated air mode
O Setting to the recirculated air mode temporarily is recommended in prevent-
ing dirty air from entering the vehicle interior and helping to cool the vehicle
when the outside air temperature is high.
O Outside/recirculated air mode may automatically switch depending on the
temperature setting or the inside temperature.
Q Operation of the air conditioning system in Eco drive mode (if equipped)
O In Eco drive mode, the air conditioning system is controlled as follows to pri-
oritize fuel efficiency:
• Engine speed and compressor operation controlled to restrict heating/
cooling capacity
• Fan speed restricted when automatic mode is selected
O To improve air conditioning performance, perform the following operations.
• Adjust the fan speed
• Turn off Eco drive mode
• Adjust the temperature setting
Q When the outside temperature falls to nearly 0°C (32°F)
The dehumidification function may not operate even when is pressed.

Q Ventilation and air conditioning odors
O To let fresh air in, set the air conditioning system to the outside air mode.
O During use, various odors from inside and outside the vehicle may enter into
and accumulate in the air conditioning system. This may then cause odor to
be emitted from the vents.
O To reduce potential odors from occurring:
• It is recommended that the air conditioning system be set to outside air
mode prior to turning the vehicle off.
• For some models: The start timing of the blower may be delayed for a
short period of time immediately after the air conditioning system is
started in automatic mode.

WARNING
QTo prevent the windshield from fogging up
O Do not use during cool air operation in extremely humid weather. The
difference between the temperature of the outside air and that of the wind-
shield can cause the outer surface of the windshield to fog up, blocking
your vision.
Q To prevent burns
O Vehicles with outside rear view mirror defoggers: Do not touch the rear
view mirror surfaces when the outsi de rear view mirror defoggers are on.
O Vehicles with windshield wiper de-icer: Do not touch the glass at lower part
of the windshield or the side of the front pillars when the windshield wiper
de-icer is on.
NOTICE
Q To prevent battery discharge
Do not leave the air conditioning syst em on longer than necessary when the
engine is not running.
O Do not place anything on the instrument
panel which may cover the air outlets.
Otherwise, air flow may be obstructed,
preventing the windshield defoggers
from defogging.

Heated steering wheel/seat heaters
: If equipped
Heated steering wheel and seat heaters heat the side grips of the
steering wheel and seats, respectively.
WARNING
O Care should be taken to prevent injury if anyone in the following categories
comes in contact with the steering wheel and seats when the heater is on:
• Babies, small children, the elderly, the sick and the physically chal-
lenged
• Persons with sensitive skin
• Persons who are fatigued
• Persons who have taken alcohol or drugs that induce sleep (sleeping
drugs, cold remedies, etc.)
O Observe the following precautions to prevent minor burns or overheating:
• Do not cover the seat with a blanket or cushion when using the seat
heater.
• Do not use seat heater more than necessary.
NOTICE
O Do not put heavy objects that have an uneven surface on the seat and do
not stick sharp objects (needles, nails, etc.) into the seat.
O To prevent battery discharge, do not use the functions when the engine is
not running.

Turns the steering wheel heater
on/off
The indicator light comes on when
the heater is operating.
The heated steering wheel can be used when the engine switch is in the “ON”
position (vehicles without smart entry & start system) or IGNITION ON mode
(vehicles with smart entry & start system).

Turns on the front left seat
heater
The indicator light comes on.
Turns on the front right seat
heater
The indicator light comes on.

OThe seat heaters can be used when the engine switch is in the “ON” position
(vehicles without smart entry & start system) or IGNITION ON mode (vehi-
cles with smart entry & start system).
O When not in use, press the seat heater switch to turn the seat heater off.
The indicator light turns off.

OAir conditioning-linked temperature regulation function (type A) (if
equipped):
By introducing air from the air conditioning system into the auxiliary box,
canned drinks etc. can be kept hot or cold. However, as the temperature
inside the auxiliary box will become the same as the temperature of the air
flowing from the air conditioning sy stem, extreme heating and cooling are
not possible. In high humidity condition, be careful of objects inside the aux-
iliary box, as condensation may form.
O Using the air conditioning-linked temperature regulation function (type A) (if
equipped):
Allow the air conditioning system to operate, and use or to
select either or . ( P. 434, 442)
Adjust the temperature. ( P. 434, 441)
Type G (if equipped)
Open the air intake lid inside the aux-
iliary box.
To blow a large amount of air into the
auxiliary box, close the passenger
