Driving
■Lane departure alert function
When the system determines that
the vehicle might depart from its
lane or course*, a warning is dis-
played on the multi-information dis-
play, and a warning buzzer will
sound to alert the driver.
When the warning buzzer sounds,
check the area around your vehicle and
carefully operate the steering wheel to
move the vehicle back to the center of
the lane.
Vehicle with BSM: When the system
determines that the vehicle might
depart from its lane and that the possi-
bility of a collision with an overtaking
vehicle in the adjacent lane is high, the
lane departure alert will operate even if
the turn signals are operating.
*: Boundary between asphalt and the
side of the road, such as grass, soil,
or a curb
■Steering assist function
When the system determines that
the vehicle might depart from its
lane or course*, the system pro-
vides assistance as necessary by
operating the steering wheel in
small amounts for a short period of
time to keep the vehicle in its lane.

depart from its lane and that the possi-
bility of a collision with an overtaking
vehicle in the adjacent lane is high, the
steering assist function will operate
even if the turn signals are operating.

headlight is dim due to its lens being dirty or it being misaligned.
●The vehicle is struck by a cross-wind.
●The vehicle is affected by wind from a vehicle driven in a nearby lane.
●The vehicle has just changed lanes or crossed an intersection.
●Tires which differ by structure, man-ufacturer, brand or tread pattern are used.
●When tires of a size other than specified are installed.
●Snow tires, etc., are equipped.
●The vehicle is being driven at extremely high speeds.

This mode employs a radar to detect the presence of vehicles up to approx-
imately 100 m (328 ft.) ahead, d etermines the current vehicle-to-vehicle fol-
lowing distance, and operates to maintain a suitable following distance from
the vehicle ahead. The desired vehicle-to-vehicle distance can also be set
by operating the vehicle-to-vehicle distance switch.
When driving on downhill slopes, the vehicle-to-vehicle distanc e may become
shorter.
Example of constant speed cruising
When there are no vehicles ahead
The vehicle travels at the speed set by the driver.
Example of deceleration cruising and follow-up cruising
When a preceding vehicle driving slower than the set speed appe ars
When a vehicle is detected running ahead of you, the system automatically deceler-
ates your vehicle. When a greater reduction in vehicle speed is necessary, the sys-
tem applies the brakes (the stop lights will come on at this ti me). The system will
respond to changes in the speed of the vehicle ahead in order t o maintain the vehi-
cle-to-vehicle distance set by the driver. Approach warning war ns you when the sys-
tem cannot decelerate sufficiently to prevent your vehicle from closing in on the
vehicle ahead.
When the turn signal lever is operated and your vehicle moves t o an overtaking lane
while driving at 80 km/h (50 mph) or more, the vehicle will acc elerate to help to over-
take a passing vehicle.
The system’s identification of what is an overtaking lane may b e determined solely
based on the location of the steering wheel in the vehicle (lef t side driver position

WARNING
■When the Stop & Start system is operating
Make sure to disable the Stop & Start system while the vehicle is in a poorly ventilated area.
If not disabled, the engine may be automatically restarted unexpectedly, causing exhaust gases to collect and
enter the vehicle, possibly resulting in death or a serious health hazard.
●Do not leave the vehicle while the
engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system (while the Stop & Start indicator is on). An accident may
occur due to the automatic engine start function.
●Depress the brake pedal and apply the parking brake when necessary while the engine is stopped by the
Stop & Start system (while the Stop & Start indicator is on).
NOTICE
■To ensure the system operates correctly
If any of the following situations occur, the Stop & Start system may not oper-ate correctly. Have your vehicle
inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
●While the driver’s seat belt is fas-tened, the driver’s and front pas-senger’s seat belt reminder light
flashes.
●Even though the driver’s seat belt is
not fastened, the driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt reminder light does not illuminate.
●Even though the driver’s door is closed, the open door warning light
is illuminated or the interior light is illuminated when the interior light switch is in the door position.
●Even though the driver’s door is open, the open door warning light does not illuminate or the interior
light does not illuminate when the interior light switch is in the door position.
■If the engine stalls
If the Stop & Start system is enabled
and the clutch pedal is depressed quickly, the engine may restart.

tors
When a vehicle is detected in a blind
spot of the outside rear view mirrors or
approaching rapidly from behind into a
blind spot, the outside rear view mirror
indicator on the detected side will illumi-
nate. If the turn signal lever is operated
toward the detected side, the outside
rear view mirror indicator flashes.
BSM OFF indicator
Illuminates when the Blind Spot Monitor
is disabled.
■Outside rear view mirror indicator visibility
In strong sunlight, the outside rear view mirror indicator may be difficult to see.
■When “Blind Spot Monitor Unavail-able See Owner’s Manual” is
shown on the multi-information display
Ice, snow, mud, etc., may be attached to
the rear bumper around the sensors. ( P.200) The system should return to normal operation after removing the ice,
snow, mud, etc., from the rear bumper. Additionally, the sensors may not oper-ate normally when driving in extremely

■Cautions regarding the use of
the system
The driver is solely responsible for safe driving. Always drive safely, tak-
ing care to observe your surround- ings.
The Blind Spot Monitor is a supple-
mentary function which alerts the driver that a vehicle is in a blind spot of the outside rear view mirrors or is
approaching rapidly from behind into a blind spot. Do not overly rely on the
Blind Spot Monitor. As the function cannot judge if it is safe to change lanes, over reliance could lead to an
accident resulting in death or serious injury.
As the system may not function cor-
rectly under certain conditions, the driver’s own visual confirmation of safety is necessary.

■Vehicles that can be detected by the Blind Spot Monitor
The Blind Spot Monitor uses rear side radar sensors to detect t he following
vehicles traveling in adjacent lanes and advises the driver of the presence
of such vehicles via the indicators on the outside rear view mi rrors.
WARNING
●Do not subject a sensor or its sur- rounding area on the rear bumper
to a strong impact. If a sensor is moved even slightly off position, the system may mal-
function and vehicles may not be detected correctly.In the following situations, have
your vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.
• A sensor or its surrounding area is subject to a strong impact.
• If the surrounding area of a sensor is scratched or dented, or part of them has become disconnected.
●Do not disassemble the sensor.
●Do not modify the sensor or sur-rounding area on the rear bumper.
●If a sensor or the rear bumper needs to be removed/installed or replaced, contact any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
●Do not paint the rear bumper any color other than an official Toyota color.

WARNING
■Cautions regarding the use of the system
There is a limit to the degree of recog-
nition accuracy and control perfor- mance that this system can provide, do not overly rely on this system. The
driver is always responsible for paying attention to the vehicle’s surroundings and driving safely.
■To ensure the system can oper-ate properly
Observe the following precautions. Failing to do so may result in the vehi-cle being unable to be driven safely
and possibly cause an accident.
●Do not damage the sensors, and
always keep them clean.
●Do not a sticker or an electronic
component, such as a backlit license plate (especially fluorescent type), fog lights, fender pole or wire-
less antenna is installed near a radar sensor.
●Do not subject the radar sensor or its surrounding area to a strong
impact. If the radar sensor, front grille, or front bumper has been subjected to a strong impact, have
the vehicle inspected by any autho- rized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer. If a sensor or the rear bumper needs to be removed/installed or replaced, con-
tact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.

onds while the vehicle is stopped.
The “TRC OFF” indicator light and the
VSC OFF indicator light will come on.*
Press again to turn the system
back on.
*: On vehicles with PCS (Pre-Collision
System), PCS will also be disabled
(only Pre-Collision warning is avail-
able). The PCS warning light will
come on and a message will be dis-
played on the multi-information dis-

■Expert mode
When expert mode is selected, it is pos- sible to drive in a more sporty manner
than other drive modes. Expert mode disables the TRC and VSC systems but the engine and brakes may be con-
trolled depending on the vehicle behav- ior.
To select expert mode, press when
in SPORT mode or TRACK mode.
The “EXPERT” indicator will come on
together with the TRC OFF and VSC
OFF indicators.
To cancel expert mode, press or
use the AWD mode select switch to
select normal mode.

WARNING
●Unlike the parking brake, hill-start assist control is not intended to hold
the vehicle stationary for an extended period of time. Do not attempt to use hill-start assist con-
trol to hold the vehicle on an incline, as doing so may lead to an acci-dent.
■When the TRC/VSC is activated
The slip indicator light flashes. Always
drive carefully. Reckless driving may cause an accident. Exercise particular care when the indicator light flashes.
■When the TRC/VSC systems are turned off
Be especially careful and drive at a speed appropriate to the road condi-tions. As these are the systems to
help ensure vehicle stability and driv- ing force, do not turn the TRC/VSC systems off unless necessary.
■Expert mode precautions
●Do not use on public roads.
●Use only when the road conditions and safely of the surrounding area
can be ensured.
●Proper use of expert mode requires
a professional level of driving skill. When using expert mode, always check the road conditions and sur-
rounding area and drive more care- fully than usual.
■Replacing tires
Make sure that all tires are of the specified size, brand, tread pattern
and total load capacity. In addition, make sure that the tires are inflated to the recommended tire inflation pres-
sure level. The ABS, TRC and VSC systems will not function correctly if different tires
are installed on the vehicle. Contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer for further information when replacing tires or wheels.
■Handling of tires and the suspen-sion
Using tires with any kind of problem
or modifying the suspension will affect the driving assist systems, and may cause a system to malfunction.
■Secondary Collision Brake (if equipped)
Do not rely solely upon the Secondary Collision Brake. This system is designed to help reduce the possibil-
ity of further damage due to a second- ary collision, however, that effect changes according to various condi-
tions. Overly relying on the system may result in death or serious injury.
■Active Torque Split AWD system
●The Active Torque Split AWD sys-tem is designed to ensure driving
stability on general roads and not for off-road driving such as for rally-ing. Do not subject the system to
extreme driving conditions.
●Drive carefully on slippery road sur-
faces.
