DISTRONIC Active Distance Assist maintains the
set speed when driving freel y.Ifve hicles are
de tected ahead, the set distance is maintained, if
necessary until theve hicle comes toa standstill.
The vehicle accelerates or brakes depending on
th e distance totheve hicle in front and the set
speed. The speed (from 20 km/h) and the dis-
ta nce totheve hicle in front are set and sa ved on
th e steering wheel.
The adjustable set speed can vary due tothefo l-
lowing factors:

the stored limit speed (e.g. winter tyre limit)

R The maximum speed recommended byactive

Also, the speed is reduced if the turn signal indi-

The driver is responsible forch oosing theright
speed and observing other road users. This
applies in particular tojunctions, roundabouts and
tra1c lights, as route-based speed adap tation
does not brake theve hicle toa standstill.
When route guidance is active, the /rst speed
adjustment is car ried out automaticall y.Ifth e turn
signal indicator is switched on, the selected route
is con/rmed and fur ther speed adjustment is acti-
va ted.
Speed adap tation is cancelled in thefo llowing
cases:
R Ifth e turn signal indicator is switched o.
before thero ute event.
R Ifth e driver depresses the accelerator or
brake pedal during the process.

Ro ute-based speed adap tation does not take right
of wa yre gulations into account. The driver is re
sponsible for complying with road tra1c regula-
tions and driving at a suitable speed.

Ac tive Lane Keeping Assist monitors the area in
front of your vehicle bymeans of the multifunction
camera (/ page 191). It ser vesto protect you
against unintentionally leaving your lane. You will be
warned byvibration pulses in the steering
wheel and guided bya course-co rrecting brake
application back into your lane.
Ac tive Lane Keeping Assist is available in the
speed range between 60 km/h and 200 km/h.
Ac tive Lane Keeping Assist can neither reduce the
ri sk of an accident if youfa ilto adapt your driving
style nor override the la wsof ph ysics. It cannot
ta ke into account road, weather or tra1c condi-
tions. Active Lane Keeping Assist is only an aid.
Yo u are responsible for maintaining a safe dis-
ta nce totheve hicle in front, forve hicle speed, for
braking in good time and for st aying in lane. If a lane-cor
recting brake application occurs, dis-
play 1appears in the Instrument Displa y.
The system does not app lythe brake if you acti-
va te the turn signal indicator.
