If th eex terior lighting is malfunctioning, Active
Pa rking Assist is not available.
Objects located abo veor below the de tection
ra nge of the sensors, e.g. overhanging loads,
ove rhangs or loading ramp s of goods vehicles, or
th e borders of parking spaces, are not de tected
during measurement of the parking space. These
are also then not take n into account when calcu-
lating the parking procedure. In some circumstan-
ces, Active Parking Assist may therefore guide
yo u into the parking space incor rectl y. &

If th ere are objects abo veor below the de tec-
tion range, thefo llowing situations may arise:
R Active Parking Assist may steer too ear ly.
R The vehicle may not stop in front of these
objects.
There is a danger of collision! #
Inthese situations, do not use Active
Pa rking Assist. Extreme
weather conditions, suc has snow or
heavy rain, may lead toa parking space being
measured inaccuratel y.Pa rking spaces that are
partial lyoccupied bytrailer dr awbars might not be
identi/ed as such or be measured incor rectl y.
Only use Active Parking Assist on le vel, high-g rip
gr ound.
Do not use Active Parking Assist in thefo llowing
situations:
R Inextreme weather conditions suc has ice,
pac ked snow or in heavy rain.
R When transporting a load that pr otru des
be yond theve hicle.
R On steep uphill or downhill gradients of more
th an appr oximately 15 %.
R When snow chains are /tted.
R When a trailer or bicycle rack is attached.
R Directly aTer a tyre change or when spare
tyres are /tted.
R Ifth e tyre pressure is too low or too high. R
Ifth e suspension is out of alignment, e.g. aTer
bottoming out on a kerb.
Ac tive Parking Assist may also display parking
spaces that are not suitable for parking, suc has:
R Parking spaces where parking is prohibited.
R Parking spaces on unsuitable sur faces.

ing tra1c when reve rsing and manoeuvring out of
a parking space. The radar sensors in the bumper
also monitor the area adjacent totheve hicle. If a
critical situation is de tected, theL symbol
appears in the media display and theve hicle can
be braked automaticall y. If
th era dar sensors are obstructed byvehicles or
ot her objects, de tection is not possible.

The manoeuvring brake function can pr event colli-
sions with pedestrians when theve hicle is reve rs-
ing at slow speeds. If there ve rsing camera
de tects a person in theve hicle path, theve hicle
can be braked toa standstill.
The manoeuvring brake function can inter vene
under thefo llowing conditions:
R The vehicle is reve rsing at a speed slo werth an
10 km/h. R
The camera image is shown in the media dis-
play (/ page 231).
Yo u can activate and deactivate the manoeuvring
brake function in theManoeuvring assistance
menu (/ page 242).
If th e manoeuvring brake function is triggered, the
fo llowing symbol appears in red in the selected
view in theCamera & parkingmenu: %
Ifth e manoeuvring brake function is not avail-
able, the same symbol appears in grey.
The manoeuvring brake function is only an aid. It
is not a substitute foryo ur attention tothe sur-
ro undings. The responsibility for safe manoeuvring
and parking remains with you. Make sure that no
persons, animals or objects etc. are in the

Yo u can either enter the articulation angle value
directly via the multimedia system or use a
straightening manoeuvre. When car rying out a
straightening manoeuvre, the system calculates
th e articulation angle automatically and straight-
ens theve hicle/trailer combination tothe trailer's
cur rent direction.

store it in a safe place. Make sure
