When Fuel-Filler LidCannot be Opened
If the battery is dead, the fuel-filler lid
cannot be opened.
In this case, the fuel-filler lid can be
opened by taking care of the dead battery
situation.
Refer to Jump-Starting on page 7-23.
If the fuel-filler lid cannot be opened even
if the dead battery situation has been
resolved, the electrical system may have a
malfunction.
In this case, the fuel-filler lid can be
opened using the following procedure as
an emergency measure.
1. Open the trunk lid. Refer to Opening and Closing the
Trunk Lid on page 3-19.
2. Pull the center section of the plastic fastener and remove the fasteners.

3. Partially peel back the cover inside thetrunk, then pull the emergency release
lever.

Check Engine LightIf this light illuminates while
driving, the vehicle may have a problem. It is important to
note the driving conditions wh en the light illuminated and consult an Authorized Mazda
Dealer.
The check engine light may illumi nate in the following cases:
The engine's electrical system has a problem.The emission control system has a problem.The fuel tank level being very low or approaching empty.The fuel-filler cap is missing or not tightened securely.
If the check engine light remains on, or it flashes continuously , do not drive at high
speeds and consult an Authorized M azda Dealer as soon as possible.

The indication/light illuminates wh en the transmission has a problem.
CAUTION
If the automatic transmission warning indication/light illuminates, the transmission has an
electrical problem. Continuing to drive your Mazda in this condition could cause damage to
your transmission. Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as possible.

TCS/DSC Indicator Light If the light stays on, the TCS, DSC or the br
ake assist system may have a malfunction and
they may not operate correctly. Take your vehicle to an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
Air Bag/Seat Belt
Pretensioner System Warning Light A system malfunction is indicated
if the warning light constantly flashes, constantly illu‐
minates or does not illuminate at all when the ignition is switched ON. If any of these oc ‐
cur, consult an Authorized M azda Dealer as soon as possible. The system may not operate
in an accident.WA R N I N G
Never tamper with the air bag/pretensioner systems and always have an Authorized Mazda
Dealer perform all servicing and repairs:
Self-servicing or tampering with the systems is dangerous. An air bag/pretensioner could
accidentally activate or become disabled causing serious injury or death.

SignalWarning Action to be taken
Seat Belt Warning
Light The seat belt warning light turns on if the
driver or passenger's seat is occupied and
the seat belt is not fastened with the ignition
switched ON.
If the driver or passenger's seat belt is un
‐
fastened (only when the passenger's seat is
occupied) and the vehi cle is driven at a
speed faster than abou t 20 km/h (12 mph),
the warning light flashes. After a short time,
the warning light stops flashing, but re ‐
mains illuminated.
NOTE
The warning light flashes for about 6
seconds if the driver's seat belt is not fas ‐
tened when the ignition is switched ON.
To allow the passenger occupant classifi ‐
cation sensor to function properly, do not
place and sit on an additional seat cush ‐
ion on the passenger's seat. The sensor
may not function properly because the
additional seat cushion could cause sen ‐
sor interference.
If a small child is seated on the passeng ‐
er's seat, the warning light may not oper ‐
ate. Fasten the seat belts.
Door-Ajar/Trunk
lid-Ajar Warning Indi ‐
cation/Warning Light The light turns on if any door/trunk lid is
not closed securely.
Close the door/trunk
lid securely.
Low Fuel Warning
Light The light turns on when the remaining fuel
is about 9.0 L (2.3 US gal, 1.9 Imp gal).
NOTE
The light illumination timing may vary be
‐
cause fuel inside the fuel tank moves
around according to the driving conditions
and the vehicle posture. Add fuel.
Check Fuel Cap Warn
‐
ing Light If the check fuel cap warning light illumi
‐
nates while driving, the fuel-filler cap may
not be installed properly. Stop the engine and re
install the fuel-filler
cap.

emission regulations and safety standards. Th erefore, vehicles built for use in the United
States/Canada may differ from those sold in other countries.

satisfactory servicing in other countries. We strongly recommend that you NOT take your

on vacation.
You may have the following problems if you do take your vehicle outside of the United
States/Canada:
Recommended fuel may be unavailable. Any kind of leaded fuel or low-octane fuel will
affect vehicle performance and damage the emission controls and engine.
Proper repair facilities, tools, testing equipment, and replacement parts may not be
available.

Registering Your Vehicle in A Foreign Country (Except
United States and Canada)
Registering your vehicle in a foreign country may be problematic depending on whether it
meets the specific emission and safety standards of the country in which the vehicle will be
driven. Consequently, your vehicle may require modifications at personal expense in order
to meet the regulations.
In addition, you should be aware of the following issues:
Satisfactory vehicle servicing may be di fficult or impossible in another country.

The fuel specified for your vehicle may be unavailable.

Parts, servicing techniques, and tools necessary to maintain and repair your vehicle may be
unavailable.

There might not be an Authorized Mazda Dealer in the country you plan to take your
vehicle.

The Mazda warranty is valid only in certain countries.

Base Curb Weight is the weight of the vehicle including a full tank of fuel and all
standard equipment. It does not include passengers, cargo, or optional equipment.

Vehicle Curb Weight is the weight of your new vehicle when you picked it up from your
dealer plus any aftermarket equipment.

PAYLOAD
Payload is the combination weight of cargo and pa ssengers that the vehicle is designed to
carry. The maximum payload for your vehicl e can be found on the Tire and Load
Information label on the driver's door frame or door pillar. Look for “THE COMBINATION
WEIGHT OF OCCUPANTS AND CARGO SHOULD NEVER EXCEED XXX kg or XXX
lbs” for your maximum payload. The payload listed on the tire label is the maximum
payload for the vehicle as built by the assembly plant. If any aftermarket or dealer installed
equipment has been installed on the vehicle, the weight of the equipment must be subtracted
from the payload listed on the tire label in order to be accurate.
