Off
WARNING
Do not stop the engine while the
vehicle is moving:
Stopping the engine while the vehicle
is moving for any reason other than in
an emergency is dangerous. Stopping
the engine while the vehicle is moving
will result in reduced braking ability
due to the loss of power braking ,
which could cause an accident and
serious injury.
1. Stop the vehicle completely.
2.(Manual transmission)
Shift into neutral and set the
parking brake.
(Automatic transmission)
Shift the selector lever to the P
position and set the parking brake.
3. Press the push button start to turn
off the engine. The ignition position
is off.
CAUTION
 When leaving the vehicle, make sure
the push button start is off.
NOTE
(SKYACTIV-G 2.0, SKYACTIV-G 2.5)
The cooling fan in the engine
compartment could turn on for a few
minutes after the ignition is switched
from ON to OFF, whether or not the
A/C is on or off, to cool the engine
compartment quickly.
If the system detects that the
remaining battery power of the key is
low when the ignition is switched
from ON to ACC or OFF, the
following is indicated.
Replace with a new battery before
the key becomes unusable.
Refer to Key Battery Replacement on
page 6-30.
A message is indicated in the display
of the instrument cluster.
Refer to KEY Warning Indication/
Warning Light (Red) on page 7-34.
(Automatic transmission)
If the engine is turned off while the
selector lever is in a position other
than P, the ignition switches to ACC.
▼ Emergency Engine Stop
Continuously pressing the push button
start or quickly pressing it any number
of times while the engine is running or
the vehicle is being driven will turn the
engine
off immediately. The ignition
switches to ACC.

The vehicle's interior temperature
and the set temperature for the air
conditioner are nearly the same.
The i-stop warning light (amber) is
not turned on/flashing.
The keyless entry & push button start
system functions are normal.
The brake vacuum is sufficiently high.The battery is in good condition.While vehicle is stopped
The selector lever is in the D or M
position (not in second gear fixed
mode).
The automatic transmission fluid
has warmed up sufficiently.
The automatic transmission fluid
temperature is not abnormally
high.
The steering wheel is almost in the
straight-ahead position (idling may
not stop even with the steering
wheel in the straight-ahead
position if force is applied to the
steering wheel. Release the force
applied to the steering wheel to
stop engine idling).
The vehicle is stopped by
depressing the brake pedal.
The vehicle is not on a steep slope.The vehicle is not stopped
suddenly.
While driving
The selector lever is in the D or M
position (not in second gear fixed
mode).
While drivingThe vehicle is driven at a vehicle
speed of about 40 km/h (25 mph)
or faster after engine idling stops
while driving.
The vehicle is not driven in sport
mode.
The automatic transmission fluid
has warmed up sufficiently.
The automatic transmission fluid
temperature is not abnormally
high.
The steering wheel is almost in the
straight-ahead position (idling may
not stop even with the steering
wheel in the straight-ahead
position if force is applied to the
steering wheel. Release the force
applied to the steering wheel to
stop engine idling).
The vehicle is stopped by
depressing the brake pedal.
The vehicle is not driven on a
slope.
The vehicle is not stopped
suddenly.
NOTE
Under the following conditions, a
period of time is required to stop
engine idling
The battery power is depleted for
some reason such as the vehicle has
not been driven for a long period.
The ambient temperature is high or
low.
After the battery terminals are
disconnected for some reason such
as for battery replacement.
Engine-stop period is short or time
until next engine idle stop is long
The ambient temperature is high or
low.
The battery power is depleted.Power consumption by the vehicle's
electrical parts is high.
Engine restarts automatically while
engine idling is stopped
Under the following conditions, the
engine restarts automatically.
The i-stop OFF switch is pressed until
the beep sounds.

celed other than by the driver.

been canceled other than by the driv-

Safely This message is indicated when the
Cruise Control have been canceled
other than by the driver.

Emergency Braking Acti-
vated. Depress Brake
Pedal to Hold Stop This message is indicated after the
Smart Brake Support (SBS) brakes op-
erate and when the Smart Brake Sup-
port (SBS) is canceled.
Depress the brake pedal.
Touch Key Fob to Push
Button Start Switch This message is indicated when the
key battery is weak (battery dead or
damaged key). Touch the key against push button
start to start the engine.
Refer to Engine Start Function When
Key Battery is Dead on page 4-8.
Depress Brake Pedal to
Start Vehicle This message is indicated when the
push button start is pressed without
depressing the brake pedal. When starting the engine, press the
push button start with the brake ped-
al depressed.
Check Gear Selector
Lever Position This message is indicated when the
selector lever is shifted to the P or R
position while driving.
Check the selector lever position.
Close Door and Fasten
Seat Belt This message is indicated when AU-
TOHOLD is about to operate and a
door is opened or a seat belt is unfas-
tened. When the AUTOHOLD is turned on,
close the doors and fasten seat belts.
Wiper Blades Must Be
on Windshield Before
Operating This message is indicated when the
ignition is switched ON with the wip-
er arms at the service positions.
Return the wiper arms to the initial
positions.
Windshield Wiper Range
of Motion Reduced. Re-
move Obstruction(s) This message is indicated when there
is snow or dirt accumulation on the
windshield and the wiper operation
range is narrowed.
Remove foreign matter from the
windshield.

Off This message is indicated when the
driver’s door is opened without
switching the ignition OFF. Switch the ignition OFF before leaving
the vehicle.
Gear Selector Lever Not
in Park Displays when the push button start
is pressed while the selector lever is
in a position other than P, and the ig-
nition is switched to ACC. Shift the selector lever to the P posi-
tion and then switch the ignition OFF.
Excessive Transmission
Te m p e ra t u r e . D r i v e
Slowly This message is indicated when the
internal temperature of the automatic
transmission is high.
Drive slowly to reduce load on the
automatic transmission.
Excessive Transmission
Temp. Stop Vehicle in a
Safe Location This message is indicated when the
automatic transmission fluid temper-
ature is abnormally high. Park the vehicle in a safe place imme-
diately and contact an Authorized
Mazda Dealer.
Battery Saving Mode.
Drive Vehicle to Charge
Battery This message is indicated when the
power consumption exceeds a cer-
tain amount such as by repeatedly
opening/closing the doors or the lift-
gate when the ignition is switched
OFF.
Some of the functions are restricted
to reduce power consumption. There is no need to contact an Au-
thorized Mazda Dealer. Drive the ve-
hicle for 5 minutes or longer to
charge the battery. The warning mes-
sage will clear just after starting the
engine.
Shift Into Park Before Ex-
iting Vehicle This message is indicated when the
driver’s door is opened with the shift
lever in a position other than the P
position. Close the driver’s door or shift the
shift lever to the P position.

▼Low Fuel Warning Beep
When the low fuel warning light
flashes, a warning beep is activated
once at the same time.
▼Brake System Warning Beep (With
M Hybrid)
A warning beep is activated if a
problem with the brake system occurs
and the brakes may not work as
intended. Decelerate the vehicle while
checking the safety of the surrounding
area, and park the vehicle in a safe
place. After stopping the vehicle,
contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
▼Brake Override Warning Beep
A warning beep is activated when the
accelerator pedal and brake pedal are
depressed at the
same time while
driving. Only depress the brake pedal.
▼ Shift Position Warning Beep
A sound is activated when the push
button start is pressed while the
selector lever is in a position other
than P, and the ignition is switched to
ACC. Check the selector lever
position.

Selector Lever Not In P or N
Reminder Warning Beep (With M
Hybrid)
A warning beep is activated
continuously if the driver's door is
opened with the selector lever in a
position other than the P or N position
when the engine is running. Shift the
selector lever to the P or N position, or
close the driver's door.

i-stop Warning Beep*
If the driver's door is opened while
engine idling is stopped, the warning
sound operates to notify the driver
that engine idling is stopped. It stops
when the driver's door is closed.
▼ Electric Parking Brake (EPB)
Warning Beep
The warning buzzer is activated under
the following conditions:
The vehicle is driven with the parking
brake applied.
The Electric Parking Brake (EPB)
switch is pulled while the vehicle is
driven.
You attempt to start driving the
vehicle while the conditions for
releasing the Electric Parking Brake
(EPB) automatically have not been
met.
